(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

He won't miss a league or championship match for Armagh.

This is an absolute joke.

Correct decision in the 6 month ban but maybe it could begin when county season begins. The lad knows he done a absolutely terrible act in the heat of the moment and id say he would do anything to to have his time back again.

The ban has been handed out and that is that time to leave the lad alone, Moderators should remove this thread

Are you surprised?
The entire GAA system is nothing short of farcical.

It's a joke. End of story.
Fines are also a joke.
There was an opportunity to come down hard on these teams but the GAA fluffed their lines probably because they didn't want the counties to appeal as they would probably win the appeal.
Roll on next year and the next brawl.

He was out of football as it was with a blood cloth, so probaly wouldn't have played much club football this year.

Hardly much punishment.

If Kelly ban stands it's a beyond a joke. Galway should put GAA to the test and not field.

Good point, I think it probably applies to all GAA activities as it is a time rather than a match ban. If so he will miss his club's full season which for him is a heavier sanction than an inter County match ban where he seems to be a bit away from selection anyway.

At least everyone knows now the punishment for eye gouging in Gaa. Is 6 months and miss no inter county match unlike Sean Kelly who missed 2 periods of extra time and unless appeal is successful an all Ireland semifinal ,,, For trying stop a fight ,, u could not make it up , GAA should be proud of themselves,,,,

Sean Kelly misses out on captaining Galway in an All Ireland semi final and Tiernan Kelly will have his ban completed and be back in time for the McKenna Cup.

Makes sense alright...

'The lad knows he done a absolutely terrible act in the heat of the moment'.

Do you knows him personally or is this just guess work? A lot of waffle and fudge this week. He shouldn't be abused online but neither should waffle interfere with proper sentences for a vile act.

Ban will only work if its from 1st January 2023. Its no coincidence that it was Armaghs 3rd brawl this year. So that should be taken into consideration also. The 2 who had to be scapegoats on the day should have their red cards reminded. No one else.

I agree the clock on the ban should start with the beginning of the inter county season. In the mean time he should be banned from all activity with in the sport until that clock starts. As said he probable regrets his action but as Mullane said " if you do the crime you do the time".

Time will tell if the offence is repeated at club and under-age games. Theses melees set such a bad example; why anyone would want to become a GAA ref ! don't know. The abuse they receive at lower levels, when there are no TV cameras, is a shame on the GAA

Time to move on, no ban would replace the anguish he has went through along with his family since the incident.. the experts and keyboard warriors that never kicked a ball in their life calling for him to be banned for years and slating him and his character should keep the mouth shut.. the same people don't even know what their local club is called never mind stand at a club game.. He's a young lad that made a terrible mistake.. fair play to his club releasing a statement which was bang on the money..

Half a year out of football and whole club season for 3 second moment of madness is fair enough for me.
Out of interest, can you look up the bans that other players got for gouging incidents in last 10 years and share those with us so we have something to compare against? There's plenty of pics of those incidents doing the rounds so should be easy to look up. Thanks.
