It was ever thus I'm afraid.

Paying debt and having your property and possessions seized is for the little people.

Disgraceful decision made by the cabinet on the scrapping of the eviction ban. This decision should be reversed as soon as possible.

The removal of the mother in the home wording in the constitution will lead to mass evictions

I don't know about that, but it will pose interesting issues around the claiming of child benefits. Watch that space.

As for evictions, it is a terrible situation to be in and there are no doubt hard cases. There are also cases of people not paying rent, ever, and treating the place they stay - either a private rented accommodation or a local authority house - and their unfortunate neighbours - with disrespect. You can't give people like that a free life pass.

I agree with that but the government never used that as a reason for ending the ban… More likely that too many Dail members have multiple properties and it's a case of turkeys not voting for Christmas…. This gomeless government are in for some shock when they go to contest the next election… Wait till you see the amount of TD's that will abandon the sinking ship and not run … just like the Fianna FAILURES years ago..

The main opposition party has one such landlord as their treasurer so don't hold your breath for anything different on that front.

Things can always get worse! Same party has not exactly turned the north or city council areas it controls into models to be followed. Homeless is actually worse north of border.

Is that you Leo? Making families homeless is just an unfortunate fact of life when you have to target percieved freeloaders to save a few pennies in the budget

I won't be voting for Leo, nor any of the current government parties nor any of the potential next one.

Simple fact is that if there is no penalty for not paying for things, then lots of people won't.

How do you get around that?

Borrow a huge amount, get most of it written off.

I'd make them pay the massive multi million loans they speculated on. Similarly the houses the they invested in to rent for lazy income knowing that market risk was involved. I certainly wouldn't give them more money for nothing.

There's no difference between any of the main parties. In most countries they would all be in the same party so small are the differences between them on the main issues. the main opposition party has proven in north and on councils that it is at least as bad as the admittedly poor government we have.

Your best bet is to have little to do with the state as possible :-)

Probably best to stick with status quo and never find out what an alternative might bring then?

You're gonna start spoofing about communism now aren't you?

I don't reckon a lot of people around the world know what will happen if Ireland has a Sinn Fein government rather than a Fianna Fail or Fine Gael one. I think that's a bit of a stretch to be honest.

Why don't you put yourself up for election?
