Once they voted against the government on a consistent basis. Which they aren't going to do, being as they were part of the team who drew up the programme for government. They aren't going to vote against the government on a consistent basis after doing a deal to be in government, so they aren't the Opposition. So they shouldn't have Opposition speaking time. Amazing you still haven't got this yet... . Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17341 - 26/01/2025 09:13:54 2587576Link 3

You just don't get it…either that or you're very slow…these 2 were part of the group setting up the programme for government so can't sit on the opposition benches taking up speaking time… Ff/FG though they were being smart but all they did was make a fool of themselves and got caught out by SF and the rest of the opposition ForeverBlue2 (Cavan) - Posts: 4243 - 26/01/2025 13:15:44 2587635Link 1
Peadar Tobín was part of those negotiations and now has opposition speaking time. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 13:32:47 2587646Link 1
Because in the same official document are policies that FF insisted must be in the programme for government in order for the C&S agreement to hold! They're claiming they are not "party to the programme" (a political move so they can distance themselves from unfulfilled promises) yet they're insisting on its very content in order to support it. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 13:43:57 2587653Link 1

Absolutely he's not. You are correct. But he was part of the technical group of independents who negotiated the programme for government, and only left it last Monday. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 14:24:46 2587671Link 1
"This list of six key policy priorities is not a programme for government. It forms the essential requirements for a viable supply and confidence arrangement." Jesus you really are a slow learner. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 1571 - 26/01/2025 14:26:32 2587672Link 1
If any of those other independents choose to leave as well then they will be entitled to opposition speaking time also. Because they won't be in the government any more either. What's so difficult to understand about any of this?!! Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17341 - 26/01/2025 14:48:27 2587682Link 1
Yet you're the one who can't see the contradiction in that very line you're quoting. (Note that I point that out to you without feeling the need to personally insult you to strengthen my argument) cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 14:59:46 2587685Link 1
Good God. You're actually arguing that black is white. Wow. Square_B (Leitrim) - Posts: 1571 - 26/01/2025 15:09:24 2587688Link 1
"We're not negotiating a programme for government but make sure the following items are in it" There, I translated it for you. The Ceann Camhairle even stated last week that the legal advice she received stated that a precedent to last week's issue existed in the form of the confidence and supply agreement of 2016. She doesn't state where the legl advice came from, but my assumption would be that it was the Attorney General. But maybe he thinks black is white too. . cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 15:24:11 2587690Link 1

Ah yes, another personal insult. I guess I wrongly assumed i was talking to a mature, level-headed, decent adult. I'll leave it at that. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5306 - 26/01/2025 16:18:22 2587700Link 1

Not so fadó fadó, when election campaigns were door to door pressing the flesh getting the message out there. No social media or AI to do the work that some inept politicians can't do. GreenandRed (Mayo) - Posts: 8318 - 26/01/2025 17:17:03 2587722Link 1 |

Trump now wants the US to take over Gaza…talking about a place that has been bombed into ashes like a piece of real estate he can play around with is disgusting. So that's Mexico, Canada, Greenland, Gaza…who's next to become a state of America? yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11807 - 05/02/2025 15:19:33 2589614Link 1
And, 1.7 or 1.8 million Palestinians ( his numbers) will be moved ( peacefully ) to beautiful homes in neighbouring countries - all paid for by Saudi Arabia and Gulf states - and live happily ever after. Utopia for all. It's amazing how the simple mind of a 10 yr old works, everything can just be done. This must have been discussed around the family dinner table. Kushner Jnr was extolling the possibilities of the uses for of this piece of "real estate" last year. Freethinker (Wicklow) - Posts: 1906 - 05/02/2025 15:53:45 2589619Link 1
