Replying To cavanman47:  "That's my point here.

It's still unclear whether our constitution allows for those independent TDs to sit in opposition and speak.

My understanding is that they are technically allowed to do so under the constitution.

However, the opposition parties didn't like this and so the incoming government agreed that this issue would be looked at, with legal advice sought, over the next 2 weeks (before the Dail sits again).

All parties entered the chamber yesterday to nominate a Taoiseach having agreed to the above.

Upon entering, the government chief whip noticed that the SF leader was in conversation with the clerk of the Dail and it subsequently unfolded that some opposition TDs has reneged on the agreed process and instead used the day to present the people of Ireland with the circus we saw yesterday."
Are you an FFG member?

Spare us the pearl-clutching man. The government tried to pull an obvious stroke and it was angrily rejected. Dressing it up as anything else is pretty pathetic

Well it is something else.
i don't think it's actually a stroke as the constitution seems to allow for it.

In either case, it was agreed that clarification and a resolution would be sought before the first sitting of the new Dail. That was agreed by all parties. Some TDs reneged on that agreement and caused the embarrassing scenes we saw yesterday.

He clearly is. Like his father and his grandfather before him etc. etc.

That's how the staunch FFG operate. Blindly follow what came before them because they haven't the capacity to think for themselves.

Sinn Fein are like the Trump cultists in America. Shameful scenes yesterday, the boys in Belfast must have had a word to their TDs in Dublin.

What we saw yesterday wasn't anywhere near as bad as you want it to be

My posts aren't really focusing on the rights or wrongs of the attempt by the independents to have speaking time.

The constitution seems to allow for it but I can obviously see the issue.

That's why it was agreed that the next 2 weeks would be used to seek legal clarification on the matter.

The problem I have is that hijacking the Dail order of business yesterday, and the manner in which it was done and pre-orchestrated, was totally wrong.

Labour, SDs, PBP, Independents Ireland were all equally as focal in their staunch opposition yesterday as well.

But hey, don't let facts get in the way of whatever fairytale you've dreamt up.

Says the guy who claims to know which way I voted (you were wrong about that) and which way my father voted (wrong about that too).

SF and the rest of the opposition were totally correct in what they done yesterday…. The arrogance of FF/FG was laid bare… Fair play to them for putting Harris and Martin firmly in their place… FF/FG have done absolutely nothing with regards to housing or health for the last 5 years yet had the arrogance to want people sitting in opposition to try and take up time on those trying to hold them to account… they are a shameful bunch …!

I have no intention of getting into this pro or anti discussion other than to note that to me, that it always seems to be " them versus us". No matter what one side brings up about the other, straight away there is a list of transgressions trotted out to apparently justify whatever. It reminds me of children in the schoolyard. Like I said earlier comedic, if it wasn't so serious. It could almost be said tragic, rather than comedic.
