Hard to disagree with any of that. A friend of mine always says we need a new "Republic". New constitution, the works. Be able to sack non performing civil servants etc. Middle management in HSE and other public bodies would love that !! A lot in what he says but it will never happen.

Any hints as to what might be in this new Constitution? Does he realise it would have to be voted on? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2003 - 29/10/2024 16:49:58 2577489 Link 0 |
That's why I said it would never happen.

"Any hints as to what might be in this new Constitution? - - That depends on who would write it, don't you think.? Does he realise it would have to be voted on?" - - - My guess is if it went as far as to be written then it would be voted on. What way the vote would go would depend on it's contents. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3082 - 29/10/2024 19:17:52 2577509 Link 0 |
Would be interesting to hear his proposals though. Or is it just a mantra like "Change"? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2003 - 29/10/2024 20:01:44 2577514 Link 0 |
What people dontseem to realise is that a general apathy towards our politicians is a good thing. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5212 - 29/10/2024 22:59:56 2577541 Link 0 |
"Just got back from the centrist rally. Amazing turnout. Thousands of people holding hands and chanting "better things aren't possible""

The "economy". What ever happened to "society"? All we will be in 40/50 years is a glorified industrial estate and financial centre in which half of population will have been born overseas with hundreds of thousands of younger Irish people living overseas.. And that's the official estimate and they tend to be wrong on the low side. There will be no such thing as the Ireland we have known any more. Happy days. Here we go more culture war crops if and buts . Race issue. What's problem with immigration if proper can be good thing but you take it to extreme.

I think you'll find that 'society' is under more threat from attitudes like yours towards migration than from actual migration itself. .

How many people had to leave Ireland in the "good old days" never to come back? 1 million? 2 million? Now that we can stay at home or go abroad voluntarily and others can come here to earn a living we're ruined according to the Barneys of the world. 620,000 people working in foreign companies here. Now now I'm sure Barney has evidence and stats to back up his statement. Do we not all miss the glory days before the immigrants came in and ruined it. No more Catholic Church running schools or Mother Baby homes look what we have had taken away. Now how do I put a tri colour on a post here. jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1300 - 30/10/2024 12:33:28 2577588 Link 1 |
When Simon Harris became party leader and Taoiseach he had a golden opportunity to reshuffle his front bench, I am not saying a minister that is not delivering or not doing a good job should be sacked instead he / she should given a more user-friendly / manageable portfolio, it's too serious to ignore.

The unofficial definition of a "centrist" is one who sits on the fence.
