What's gone wrong in Tyrone. They were dead ducks. There for the taking. Only a few put up any challenge. So unlike the brilliant Tyrone of last August. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 03/05/2022 12:40:43 2414561 Link 0 |
Derry are getting to the level that they probably should be at. The club scene is very vibrant and if you are to look at underage they've been very competitive at particularly minor winning ulsters getting to all ireland finals and winning the 2020 all ireland. Their schools are always at the top end of the mccrory cup and pushing all irelands. I'd say Gallagher has a plan to keep pushing this bunch. They kind of abandoned the under 20s this year by keeping the best of them involved with the seniors. For all the focus on Armagh recently they are much less successful at underage intercounty level. It was no fluke, a bit of luck yes but every team needs some luck. Was Murphy sent off before the throw last year or how do you come up with 14 men for entire game. They haven't gone away ye know.

Tyrone s AI win last year was no fluke. I don't know where anyone gets that from. They were phenomenal in the semi final and final. Kerry were probably a bit complacent but Mayo was well ready. Kerry had no answer for what they brought. They will be hurting badly after Sunday and that's when they are at their most dangerous. Derry were brilliant and we will see if it was their AI or will they be as ready for Monaghan who have been impressive. That's the test for them. The draw for the qualifiers will be interesting to say the least. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 03/05/2022 14:41:30 2414615 Link 1 |
That was only Derrys 2nd Ulster championship win in ten years, a truly remarkable result. Gaa_lover (USA) - Posts: 3357 - 03/05/2022 14:43:32 2414618 Link 0 |
Heard sean on Rte he reckons Monaghan will win Ulster now, he doesn't think Donna-Gall will do it, where in Trone is he from anyway? Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2759 - 03/05/2022 20:16:45 2414751 Link 0 |
A few things, I see dick clerkin leaning towards the view that Tyrone's all Ireland win was down to luck!! What planet is he on? Also Rory Gallagher being lauded as some sort of footballing messiah to Derry?? Nothing to do with the fantastic work being done over the last 6 to 7 years at minor level in Derry....Derry fully merited their win on Sunday. Rory Gallagher has won nothing as a manager has lost finals in ulster at u21 ,and senior level and was also unable to get a talented kilcar team out of their championship group....maybe that will change this year.....but the crowd does not applaud the tenor for clearing his throat totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 922 - 03/05/2022 21:29:07 2414756 Link 1 |

Clerkin has always had a chip on his shoulder regarding Tyrone. Probably due to the amount of times he has been beaten out the gate by us. I can't remember him ever actually writing a genuinely positive article about Tyrone. Which is surprising as he tends to focus quite a bit on Tyrone football when writing his piece. Your point regarding Gallagher is spot on. And I said this in one of my earlier posts. Derry have won nothing yet. I actually think they are a very talented group of players and they were exceptional on Sunday. There is no reason why they couldn't go on and win Ulster. But I do worry that they will buy into the hype. Gallagher and his players need to be honest with themselves about how bad Tyrone were on Sunday and realise that Monaghan and Donegal/Cavan will be completely different. Their quarter final win cannot be their All Ireland. At this point in time Derry are still a division 2 team that has just won their first Ulster Championship match in 6 years. Nothing more. Fully agree with your post. Credit must be given where its due. Derry were brilliant on Sunday and had spent hours and hours getting ready for that game with Tyrone. They've won nothing yet and let's see how they get on against Monaghan. Tyrone were phenomenal in their last 3 matches last year and neither Dick Clerkin nor anyone else can take their fully deserved All Ireland away from them. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 04/05/2022 19:21:09 2414929 Link 1 |
