If there was ever a potential banana skin then this is it. Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 27/04/2022 07:15:42 2413475 Link 0 |
I'm confident to be honest. They have lost McFall and Doherty and rumours are that McKindless is going to America so all isn't well in the camp by the sounds of it. Now we will have to play to our best ability to win but i feel if we can nullify McGuigan, who scores a high percentage for them, and keep scorable frees to a minimum we should be ok. Tyrone certainly aren't playing well this year but we will have enough to come though. Conn Kilpatrick and Conor Glass's battle in midfield will be brilliant. From our experience in the past, Rory will have Derry we'll set up. If I was asked a few months ago I fancied Derry. But since the Galway game I have changed my mind big time. Once players start leaving a squad a couple of weeks out from championship things are not right. Rory's man management skills were never the best. I think it will go similar to the last time we met in Ulster in 2019 with Derry playing well but Tyrone coming out stronger in the last quarter. Really impressed with Derry when they played Donegal last year but not sure they have kicked on. Byanthon (Tyrone) - Posts: 1780 - 27/04/2022 13:28:35 2413609 Link 0 |
Fair enough points Fridge. My main concerns were around how we have been performing but didn't actually realise the issues within the Derry squad. Hopefully it is a tight enough match as it would be good preparation playing Fermanagh and Derry before playing Monaghan. I would imagine that Monaghan ease past Down which wouldn't be the best preparation for playing Tyrone. Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 27/04/2022 14:31:26 2413644 Link 0 |
I was impressed with how Derry were going about their business earlier in the year. But they then suffered a wobble with promotion from Div 2 in sight. Plus there have now been a few withdrawals from the squad which does not bode well. It must be maddening for Derry supporters as yet again they will not be playing with a full deck. Maybe it doesn't bother them all that much though? Club rivalry seems to be more important than the county going well. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9133 - 27/04/2022 14:37:32 2413646 Link 0 |

I expect Tyrone to win and cruise into the Ulster final, should be an interesting game though, I think Tyrone will improve more as the season progresses. Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2747 - 27/04/2022 20:58:33 2413742 Link 0 |
If Tyrone are thinking of anywhere near Croke Park they need to win this by 7/8 points at least which i think they will. Work on an early lead and work through the panel with 20 minutes to go. Bigger games to come.

Well unfortunately my reservations were correct. Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 01/05/2022 17:45:31 2414415 Link 0 |
Fair play to Derry, very unlucky to lose to us last year. I would bet on a Derry V Donegal final and either team could win that one. Ronan1989 (Donegal) - Posts: 81 - 01/05/2022 17:53:25 2414420 Link 0 |
Massive well done to Derry, did not expect that level of performance from either team, Derry will be confident now going in against Monaghan, what a game that should be, impossible to call. Can't see everything going as well again for Derry and Monaghan are so good and so dogged, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 2747 - 01/05/2022 18:11:22 2414431 Link 0 |
Meant to say Derry...

Gallagher has had Monaghans number the last two occasions he has met them in ulster semi finals so he will be confident. His fermanagh side were v tough opposition in 18 after we beat tyrone now shoe on other foot so be interesting. Monaghan well familiar with tyrone but think its our first championship meet with Derry since the days of the Bradley brothers and Freemans going back a while. 50 50 semi final id say with slight edge towards Derry look to be coming side in Ulster but no better outfit than monaghan to tear up the script. Its a massive result for Derry today and no offence to tyrone but great for ulster championship to have strong Derry side back.

Tyrone proving last year was a fluke. Very poor stuff. Hard for them to win when they don't play against 14 men for an entire match or mess Kerry around with fixtures. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1142 - 01/05/2022 18:56:41 2414449 Link 6 |
You were certainly right Wally. Fair play to Derry….game plan worked a treat and I wasn't expecting it. I thought Derry would do an "Armagh" like last week but I was sadly mistaken. Tyrone's big players didn't show up, McGeary is back to the McGeary of a few years ago, Harte wasn't fit, Sludden poor, Brennan poor, Hampsey poor, McShsne non existent. McKenna poor. Add in the stupid denting off by Kennedy it was curtains. As I said fair to Derry, Monaghan up next for them. Good luck The_Fridge (Tyrone) - Posts: 2088 - 01/05/2022 19:24:44 2414460 Link 2 |
On that performance the next day out will be Tyrones last this year. Woeful. What's gone wrong? Not a patch on last year . Derry were brilliant but Monaghan will be playing football unlike Tyrone. border Gael (Monaghan) - Posts: 894 - 01/05/2022 19:50:55 2414470 Link 3 |
Everything I read states that Tyrone were poor. Why? Derry were excellent, played good controlled football and took our chances when presented. To go to Omagh and score 1-18 and only concede 10 points against the current All Ireland Champions. Gaelbhoy21 (Derry) - Posts: 3 - 01/05/2022 20:26:00 2414479 Link 1 |
I hate this revisionist nonsense. Today doesn't prove anything about last year's All-Ireland win, apart from the fact that they're well off the level they showed last August and September. It's not the first time it's happened to them the year after winning. You don't beat Kerry after 90+ minutes of football by fluke. Neither do you outplay Mayo in a final by chance. Tyrone were a breath of fresh air in the latter stages of last year's championship. They were miles off that today. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2039 - 01/05/2022 20:44:09 2414484 Link 12 |
It was a deserved victory for Derry, they were well prepared and looked the better or more energised side before Kennedy was sent off on the 25th minute. However before the sending off and penalty goal opened up a huge lead, I still expected Tyrone to adapt and come back strong. But Derry really controlled the game after that and Tyrone struggled to get traction. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1112 - 03/05/2022 11:44:01 2414519 Link 1 |
