What do you do then? Do you leave them out in the likes of the Joe McDonagh forever, how will that help them either. If they want to come up they should be allowed do so. As for the games at weekend no way are westmeath and Laois that bad, it was a blip on 2 developing counties trying to better themselves, they are going to get the occasional heavy beating and had the end of the day they both have a proud tradition in hurling and shouldn't be thrown to the side with uproar of championship needs changing again after one bad weekend.

Interesting how all the talk on the Sunday game last night was about Galway's trouncing of Westmeath, something Galway supporters would not take any pleasure in, yet not a word about KK's trouncing of Laois or KK's trouncing of many teams down through the years!

There is no simple solution. They won't get better if they don't play against the top teams, the won't get better with bad beatings. CBs have a lot to do with it. In 2020 pre Covid the Munster Council wanted Kerry to play at A level at minor and U20. CB refused with the usual line of them not being ready etc when really they just didn't want to make the effort needed. Laois and Westmeath will have a relegation final in round 5. The top 4 will be challenging for the Leinster final and top 3 spots. Everyone wins, except the relegation final loser. Antrim were competitive in the league games prior to their final game against Tipperary. Exactly, the underage is the area that needs to be targeted in any of these counties. You could train their current senior teams to the highest degree and they'd still fall well short. You have to start developing players at underage level, its too late when they've gotten to senior.

Regarding Kerry playing in Munster, should another county have to be relegated because to accommodate it? A six-team round robin championship would still use up the same number of weekends. Also, going the complete opposite way, if Kerry should win the Joe McDonagh Cup, maybe they should just ascend to the Leinster Championship instead, rather than be made play for their place in a championship that doesn't want them? Kildare are showing the right way to do it Bon. Focus on underage and eventually they'll make it at senior. It is a 10 + year project.

Schools is where it needs to start. For a long time Kerry basically only had one school that played hurling and that was Causeway in the Vochanical Schools championships. There are three schools from Tralee now playing but at the "D" grade but it's at least an improvement. Causeway were to play in the Harty Cup in 2020 pre Covid but thsts obviously didn't happen and from what I know don't have a team at the moment who can play at that level so are staying at "B" for now. There was a short lived Kerry Colleges team 10 plus years ago but they were only able to pick from I think three schools and 95% of the team were from Causeway meaning a lot of players missed out. oneoff (UK) - Posts: 1485 - 27/04/2022 09:48:43 2413505 Link 0 |

That's it, and Naas GAA club have been doing this for years. Its no surprise that they are All Ireland Champions. All these projects are long term, unfortunately too many county boards can't see past the end of their nose.

Unfortunately alot of CBs just don't want to promote hurling in any meaningful way. Fair play to Kildare, from parents, schools and unpaid coaches upwards. Be great to see them achieve something big in the future.

Some people are questioning Kerry's continued participation in the Munster Minor hurling championship. Sure there have been some harsh lessons, but surely there is also a benefit in coming up against top quality opponents. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8391 - 27/04/2022 17:27:25 2413715 Link 1 |
