In my humble opinion, the 6th team in Leinster should be relegated. The Munster Championship can have 6 teams next year instead. Antrim are the raging hot favourites however and rightly so. Antrim are confident of getting above Laois and Westmeath in the pecking order."]I think you're right there. But what if Kerry were promoted to Munster with 6 teams and won a game. You might potentially relegate Waterford or Cork or Tipperary. We can't have that. The Munster championship must not allow for any chance of relegation."]Why not? If Kerry accept the daunting task of entering a 6 team Munster championship, and if Kerry finish 5th. The 6th place team would have to make way for the integrity of the game. The McDonagh Cup is a part of the All-Ireland series. If Cork, Waterford or Tipperary ended up in the McDonagh, they should be men enough to take their medicine. Under the current agreed provincial round robin, everyone should have some threat of relegation. Cork, Waterford or Tipperary in such an unlikely scenario would have to focus on making the McDonagh final to qualify for the All-Ireland series. Offaly have lead the way for taking their medicine. The integrity of the game and the current agreed provincial round robin depends on it. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8396 - 22/05/2022 11:57:16 2419348 Link 0 |

If Kerry beat any of them they deserve to be relegated. Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 14156 - 22/05/2022 12:23:32 2419357 Link 0 |

Apologies - I forgot this was the internet where tone can be difficult to put across. I agree with the posters on here who say Kerry should be promoted to a 6 team Munster championship - Laois could still go down and have a 5 team Leinster championship. I'd guess Kerry might fancy their chances a bit more at staying up in Leinster. They're probably best placed to answer that question themselves. brianb (Kildare) - Posts: 370 - 23/05/2022 09:00:37 2419572 Link 0 |
If the McDonagh winner determines the province with the 6th team, everyone is treated the same and it's better for the integrity of the game. The GAA only make some changes as situations arise. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8396 - 23/05/2022 10:40:20 2419610 Link 0 |
I'd add that regardless of the result of the McDonagh cup final the GAA should decide how to handle a Kerry win. It might not happen this year but its likely to happen soon enough. A strong Kerry team winning the McDonagh cup for a couple of years in a row could block up the promotion / relegation part of the Championship.

Agreed. This is where my solution solves everything. The McDonagh winner will always be promoted to their province. Whoever finishes 6th in the 6 team province will always be relegated. It treats everyone fairly.
