He still did better with the diagonal balls. He dropped a few of the high ones. But great to see him more involved for most of the game and he showed well and took most of his scores too. Think it was inevitable theyd get back in it as the game was very disjointed in the 2nd half with the substitutions. In the 3rd quarter they hit some poor wides as we did in the 4th quarter. Also they left more goals behind them than we did.

Think it will be a great experience for the newer lads going to play inter county in Croker. Glad it's not in Parnell Park although the atmosphere would have been better there.

Is it on before the Dublin football league game on Saturday? Dublin would have to lose by 14 tomorrow not to be in it. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3275 - 22/01/2022 19:23:24 2395980 Link 0 |
To be fair we missed a very good goal chance in the 1st half and Morris had ground stroke off the post, also taught we should have got a free out in the build up to their 1st goal.

I'd imagine it might be streamed like yesterday's game.

I actually think we were due the home game, fairly sure our last Walsh Cup meeting was in Parnell in 2018, I'd say everyone involved is happy enough to get a run out at Croke Park.

Looks to be the case anyway.

I'm sure the manager is looking at the blocks of games not to over do with players, how our schedule has worked has been Laois Walsh Cup Jan 9th Tipp challenge game Jan 16th Kilkenny Walsh Cup Jan 22nd Dublin Walsh Cup Jan 29th Limerick League Feb 6th Clare League Feb 13th Add in Fitzgibbon Cup and even Secondary schools competitions for a few players involved so far. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 23/01/2022 09:13:26 2396012 Link 0 |
And don't forget the two great saves in the first half. We could have been home and hosed at half time

One concern I had from yesterday is no sign of Jack Cullen on the panel. In retrospect I would start him the next day if he is available Yellow (Wexford) - Posts: 585 - 23/01/2022 11:33:45 2396031 Link 0 |
It says Sunday on one site. Which wouldn't make sense. Don't think there is anything else in CP that day?

Bailey, Murphy, DOK, Liam Og, Chin, ROC, Aidan Nolan and the Recks all missing also. That's nearly 2/3rds of a championship starting team including a few of our best players. Would be great to see Cullen getting a run out Sunday if hes fit though.

Were Wexford supporters happy enough at the weekend? I saw Buff Egans clips and they seemed to have found a few new players and got some fine scores... tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 24/01/2022 08:51:11 2396146 Link 0 |
Are all these lads on the panel? Some huge competition for places if we have everyone . Agree I'd love to see Jack Cullen get a chance if he is available on Saturday

Most I know were happy enough Tiobraid. At the same time we know it's only January and when we play Kilkenny in the Round Robin there will likely be at least 15 starters on that day between the 2 sides who didnt feature at all last Saturday so it will be a completely different game. While we haven't won much apart from a Leinster minor title in 2019 at underage we have had a few very good players coming through every year so the likes of the Walsh Cup is the time to give these young fellas experience of the senior set up. Some are only getting to the size physically needed now as they get into their early 20s. Hopefully we will have a good u20 team this year also.

I was wondering about Bailey alright. Roc and Liam og played against Laois recks played in club championship for oylegate. Chin has a hamstring injury I think. According to the local papers only one person left the panel and that was joe o Conner. Jack Cullen was a sub against Tipperary

Well that's false anyway, more than one has left.

Ya and its still a good showing. I was very disappointed for Tipp to be beaten by a Kerrry team without their Kilmoyely contingent. We got nothing from the competition where as Wexford it seems will take quite a bit from the Walsh cup. The cship will be on top of us before we know it so there is some value in these competitions I'd imagine.

Most pleasing aspect for me was 5 of the 6 starting forwards were new to this level and all scored from play with Oisin foley contributing 5 points from play on cillian Buckley. Wexford scored 1.21 from play which is very encouraging. No sweeper and more direct style with Conor Mac benefitting most with 6 points. His equalising point at the end was some score. Another opportunity for the new guys next Saturday in croke park v Dublin who have been putting out strong teams in the walsh cup so it will be a good test for them
