Don't think Cody or Egan will loose any sleep over this result.

I doubt it too. Think we are going to see 20 plus players that wont be starting the Championship round Robin fixture in a few months time.

You're probably right there.

Most of us supporters are still suffering ptsd from the 07-2015 era though

Replying To Viking66:  "The modern way is not to have any 1 designated sweeper but probably all the half forwards will spend a good chunk of time defending in their own half or even 45 and the inside men bar possibly 1 will spend alot of time defending out around midfield too. And be expected to break forward fast too. Modern players are much fitter and generally faster and are expected to cover more ground in the modern systems of play."
Nothing more than a practise match for both teams. Keeping experimenting Darragh, we are going ok at moment. Looking forward to the game now.

If we don't play a sweeper this year we won't get within 10 points of anyone

Whoever wins this will face the winners of the other group; Dublin, Galway, Offaly and Antrim (most likely Dublin)"
True. I stand corrected. League opener v Limerick is currently the next competitive match on the books all right, but there could be a Walsh Cup Final in between, depending on the result on Saturday.

I'm not too sure about that.

We have some pretty potent forwards that the system has been to their detriment.

Would be nice to see Rory and mac in front of the goal with ball in hand a little more often.

I think we were sick of the sweeper and slaves to it. Look how dangerous Mac and Chin were as a two man full forward line vs Clare when they were deployed there after all was lost. I don't mind letting in three goals if we score 4.

Time will tell, results will prove my point,we will concede too much, we won't score as much either, watch this space, heavy loses ahead unfortunately if we don't play sweeper or getting men behind ball, we go traditional we in trouble

That's probably also the amount of years since you've been at a Wexford hurling game...

Agree if we go traditional we will lose heavily. Even Limerick would with their current panel. Hopefully Egan will come up with a system that suits us.

Think Rory is better out the field tbh. Problem with Mac the last few years is getting the ball into his hand in those areas. Hes still a lethal finisher but he doesnt seem to suit long dropping ball and after watching him from underage up it could be said he never did. Chin is a great ball winner but again like Rory would be wasted left around the square for the whole game.

Wexford can't win with a sweeper but the might without one. You need to overload defences to get big scores .. Limerick do it differently but they have unreal size. Id have great faith in Wexfords forwards bit it'd the backs id be worried about ...like Waterford the corner backs are a weakness.

Not playing a dedicated sweeper in not the same thing as not getting men back. Pretty much every county has men drop back when they aren't in possession.

Who would you suggest around the square then if Mac isn't suited to it and Rory and Chin are a waste around the square?

Mac is the man for there but dropping high ball on top of him isnt the best way of getting ball into him as he doesnt seem to be the best at winning it. Thought my post was fairly simple to understand. ROC and Chin should be on the ball as much as possible so should be operating in areas where they will see more of it. Yes Chin is a great ball winner and certainly should be around the square at times especially if we are behind and need a goal but would be wasted standing around there for the whole game. Mac would be better served by runners coming from deeper drawing defenders and giving him shorter lower passes to finish. Like he showed when playing minor and under 21.

He did alright with high ball today.

Be great to get a run out in Croke Park this early.

Some very encouraging performances.

Can't believe we let them back into it though.

In total control and doing what we liked for 60 minutes.

Great to be back in the park for the game today. Encouraging display even if we almost threw it away having been the better team for an hour. Thought Devitt did well at corner back with paudi foley and conall flood also good. Oisin foley had a great game whilst Conor Mac was immense. I posted earlier in the week that I thought he could benefit most under darragh Egan and today showed that. His equaliser was pure quality. Overall a promising performance and another chance to give the newer guys a runout next week in croke park before the all Ireland champions come to town
