I'll go easy on you guys this week. All joking aside, I fancied you to put it up to Mayo. That was a surprising scoreline.

They wont though. Theyre miles off it. As for us playing you this or any week. Im a great admirer of what Mayo have achieved over the last few decades but we've no fear of you and always have a performance ready for your team. It would be a lot closer than that result today.

Sobering day at the office, we can make all the excuses we want… apart from the obvious, the gulf in conditioning and running power was stark, years behind… were trudging along ground coming out of defence and midfield while the likes of Donegal and Armagh are gliding over it…ponderous and lateral passing on the ball isn't helping our inside line, you would want the patience of a saint in there waiting on the ball to come in… I do feel sorry for the younger lads on the team.. div 1 is a tough place and coming into a sinking ship is tough…we need to get behind these lads and keep encouraging and hope for better days ahead starting with the Cavan game..the standard of club football is average at the minute so it's no huge surprise that's we're on a spiral… mick2007 (Monaghan) - Posts: 649 - 22/02/2026 19:00:47 2657891 Link 0 |

Could not agree more conditioning, general fitness and running power is well behind the other counties at division 1, unsure if it's player issue or coaching problem. Today was sobering, alot of late 90s early 2000s vibes as the game wore on. A bit like dublin the whole energy around monaghan football is flat, crowds being one. We are definitely in a rut and it's not good. I hope our u20 team are facing proper conditioning to be ready for the demands of this new game. Another difficult assignment next week to follow. The cavan game is going to be huge and there will be a kick of the ball in it. We need to up it, players and managment, no more nice talk and excuses.

If you think getting lads back who haven't played inter County in almost a year into a side who are currently getting beat out the gate in their home league games is going to sort things I have a bridge to sell you. Theres v few if any other Ulster venues Mayo would have such a handy day out in as they had today. Just waltzed through for scores too easy not a hand laid on one of them. Season is over now focus on u20s minors that should be priority.

That was another shocking performance. Some players did OK but the wide open defence and the lack of fluency up front were awful. To lose by 19 points on your home pitch in February in bad conditions tells everything you need to know. The last 20 or so minutes were nearly unwatchable. Buck has to stop here with the management and not so much the players, or at least not all of them. Management look well out of their depth. The team is not a cohesive unit by any metric. They are all over the place. The physical development of the players is very poor. At this stage, regardless of injuries, some of the players should be locking down their championship places. Instead we seem to have some sort of endless shuffling. I could see Monaghan going through the year without winning a game at this rate. Something else that needs to be addressed is the complete lack of bite. When Kobe McDonald came on to a big cheer from the Mayo fans he should have been put on the seat of his pants immediately. That's what would have greeted him if he was playing Kerry. How many yellow cards did Monaghan get? One or 2 near the end is all I can recall. In division one it's physical first and then earn the right to play football. Monaghan are losing that battle. PolicemanFox (Monaghan) - Posts: 209 - 22/02/2026 19:29:47 2657908 Link 0 |

Mayo can win it all without Kobe, no worries. Wonderful young player for sure. Monaghan could target Galway for a win. maroondiesel (Mayo) - Posts: 1258 - 22/02/2026 19:47:25 2657913 Link 0 |
