First 35 was dire from Monaghan, yet again they give a less favoured team a foothold in a game they are supposed to win easily. Why is 15 wides acceptable when you are you are favourites? It was your big players doing the messing too.
When Clare took their goal chance it was back to a 4 point margin- not good. Down team would have whipped Monaghan on the weekend no problem. All told however, it was no harm to cool the nonsense talk coming from some supporters after a the Louth win.

Ah here, down will be operating out of division 3 next year, hardly a footballing super power..if were not taking down with a few pts to spare well then there's not much point talking about the Armaghs and Kerry's of this world….

Happy with the win Sunday. Although losing to clare at half time wasnt acceptable wind or no wind. They are not a good team. Second half was better. Winning this game against down is huge as there a realistic shot at a semi final. Monahan favourites yes and should be winning. A defeat and it's possibly Galway or Dublin or worse tyrone or mayo maybe even cork

Not to get ahead of ourselves, BUT, if we do beat Down in two weeks, do we avoid meeting a team from our group in the Quarter final if they come through or is it an open draw of 4 group winners in one pot and 4 prelim quarter final winners in another ?
The way I see it, my predications for teams into the Prelim Quarter finals are:
2nd Tyrone, 3rd Mayo
2nd Galway, 3rd Derry/Dublin (this is too hard to call).
2nd Meath (on points diff), 3rd Roscommon,
2nd Down, 3rd Louth

So if Monaghan get straight through to a quarter final, they could be facing Tyrone, Mayo, Galway or Derry/Dublin. Any of which would be a big scalp to take. We would not fear any of the other 4 teams if draw was again kind to us.
Obviously, if Down were to beat us, you'd be hoping to get Meath or Roscommon then in a prelim.

It's virtually impossible for Donegal to win the group and Mayo to finish 3rd. If Mayo lose and Tyrone win then Mayo are out on head to head. If Mayo and Tyrone both win then Mayo finish top and if Cavan and Mayo both win Cavan would be top and Mayo second Tyrone 3rd

Sorry.. you are right.
In all likelihood, Tyrone will beat Cavan and Donegal will beat Mayo.
This would leave both Donegal and Tyrone on 4 points (Tyrone top the group based on head to head).
This would also leave Cavan and Mayo on 2 points each (Cavan would get 3rd place based on head to head).
so a likely prediction is for Tyrone to top the group with Donegal 2nd and Cavan 3rd.

Bad injury, ambulance called. I believe the player is okay and out of Drogheda.

It's about time they got there house in order. Big club with a good successful young crop of players and a serious coach. Will be a failure if they don't return to senior come autumn.

You can have all the coaches in the world but you need to have the players! Intermediate could be anyone coming up.. 6 teams could win the champ!

Rewatched the league game, Down are going to be a very tough test on Sunday. They exert huge one on one pressure in defence and isolate attackers very effectively. They remind me of Tyrone's style which we've always struggled with. Will be a real test of how much effort we put in off the ball making support runs. You can't go it alone, you need three/four players making threatening runs to create space against them. They do funnel back a bit too much and leave space for 2pters if we recycle back out to our good shooters and pick off distance points rather than getting bottled up close to goal. They're also simple but effective in attack, running in groups of twos and threes, fist passing, getting off shots before you get organised.

If we can outwork them, make positive rather than passive decisions under pressure, and keep our shooting accuracy up we'll win, but drop our effort levels even 10% and we'll be in a lot of bother.

QF is a big prize for the winners, it's going to be a serious game!

Very quiet on here considering we have one of our biggest games in last few years on Sunday. This one is massive. Get over the line and it's a one off shot to make a 2nd semi final in 3 years. Unthinkable really a few years ago when we looked to be heading for rock bottom

ive noticed that gabriel has mentioned at least three times this year that we started off flat...he said it against clare, meath and probably donegal too...maybe the down league game too....he also mentioned after the louth game that there were a couple of friendlies where we were a bit flat....

no real problem with that because lets face it, its been a positive year but does seem to be a trend somewhat...id like to think that now we're in knock out football (or thereabouts) our backs will be up against the wall and the lads should be chomping at the bit to get the job done...if not, we dont deserve it - and we'll pay the price of the extra game...at that stage then theres no excuses...once we leave everything out there - ill not complain too much

Think monaghan will be well up for this one great position to be in for the winner only concern is that we go down the middle and get bottled up think if we stretch down width wise our forwards can beat them one on one i hope and think we will have enough guile for down and our subs could be the difference in the end monaghan by 3
