As a whole div 2 3 & 4 posting higher scores than div 1. This might be down to a lower standard of defending than what's in div 1, as a poster said, you could drive a bus through our defence v Westmeath and I'm sure it's the same for the rest of teams outside the top level…and on the other hand, we are still posting higher scores as well. Conceding heavy, scoring heavy. As long you're the right side of the result after 70, who cares! farneygael3 (Monaghan) - Posts: 427 - 11/02/2025 11:24:13 2590566Link 0

Agree , tougher matches to come and the latest injuries won't help. The pace of the new game is hard on players, maybe get another result to stay in the division and concentrate on having a longer Summer. stoneygrey (Monaghan) - Posts: 247 - 12/02/2025 18:42:44 2590781Link 0
I think the combination of changes are achieving their goal in the lower divisions, the games I've watched either live or on TV have been more open and entertaining. I haven't watched any div 1 games yet though..... Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 17341 - 12/02/2025 20:11:53 2590788Link 0
So this weekend is a dress rehearsal for the div 2 final in my opinion. How will we go? farneygael3 (Monaghan) - Posts: 427 - 13/02/2025 11:25:34 2590826Link 0

Monaghan have played the 2 weakest teams in the division. We could be the third worst, or event he second. Cluck, cluck, bwaak, lad Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1268 - 13/02/2025 23:03:26 2590903Link 2

Cork have always given Monaghan problems. I can't recall Monaghan ever beating them, anyone correct me? Meath are better than they were, not to be taken for granted Louth will be tougher than you expect and Down have zero fear of Monaghan. A long way to go to 8 points. Game seems to be live on GAAGO (if you're outside the country anyway) and on TG4 delayed. PolicemanFox (Monaghan) - Posts: 204 - 14/02/2025 16:45:47 2591029Link 0
Cork would naturally strike fear in any Monaghan fan. Our record is abysmal against the Rebels. Last win was in 2010 in Scotstown 3-13 to 3-12. Even Monaghan at their strongest under Malachy couldn't turn cork over. Even remember going to Cork in 2008 when Cork players had just come off strike with little or no training under their belt and still beat Monaghan which Ultimately cost Monaghan promotion to Division shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1949 - 14/02/2025 16:57:41 2591031Link 1
I thought we drew that day in scotstown? I see Darren Hughes named on the bench first tomorrow. Incredible that he's got himself back yet again, some effort. Would have been understandable if he decided he'd had enough after that injury against Cavan. moodoo (Monaghan) - Posts: 466 - 15/02/2025 08:22:35 2591100Link 0
I'm actually wrong looked it up we lost 3-13 to 3-12. So any win against Cork would be greatly needed. shaggylegend (Monaghan) - Posts: 1949 - 15/02/2025 10:00:49 2591108Link 0
Think we beat cork in 09 but they won the final in croker. 222 (UK) - Posts: 881 - 15/02/2025 11:59:11 2591120Link 0
I think you're right. Won well enough in the round but couldn't get near them in the final. Only time can see they beat Cork. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1268 - 15/02/2025 12:49:48 2591125Link 0

Conceding big scores was going to bite us eventually. A battling display away v a v good roscommon side who to be fair deserved it. Am actually glad it was 5 pts at the end rather than the one as we had the chances including missed penalty . That said roscommon could had 3 goals in the first half and had the shooters when it counted. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1919 - 16/02/2025 16:25:55 2591376Link 0

Good battle today, 2 best teams in the division I would think. Some lovely footballers in Monaghan, Conor McCarthy was a serious threat all day. I feel we will see ye again in a few weeks. D.Hyde (Roscommon) - Posts: 305 - 16/02/2025 18:27:59 2591398Link 0 |

Agreed a good battle and well done Roscommon. Considering we had only 1 definite starter in attack, with 2 debutants, I thought we were a threat all game and defended well against a very experienced & talented Roscommon forward line. We will definitely have a much stronger panel by the end of this league. Promotion is not a priority. Shelbourne1 (Monaghan) - Posts: 425 - 16/02/2025 20:26:08 2591424Link 0 |

It was an easier trip home compared to last year, despite the loss. A very young Monaghan team battled to the end, and while Ros were value for the win the performance from the lads was encouraging. Eddie the Exile (Monaghan) - Posts: 1268 - 16/02/2025 21:07:41 2591438Link 0 |
