They could go without a manager next year and they'd still win the county championship at their leisure. Even with possibly the highest rated coach in Ulster, Peter Donnelly, by his side, they couldn't get over the line. New manager coming for sure.

Looks like Conor McManus is going to try and give it another year. PolicemanFox (Monaghan) - Posts: 181 - 26/11/2024 21:52:34 2581391 Link 0 |
Terrible decision imo. Don't be that guy Conor

With your arrogance, you dont cop on that he is correct. The 70s/80s men were a team who did their talking on the field. Men who would die for each other. The also had mentors who were in it for the love of the club. No Monaghan Senior club has ever lay down and surrendered like YOUR heroes did against Kilcoo.

Not much noise being made about the terrible conditioning levels Scotstown appeared to be in comparison to Kilcoo.

Probably feels the 3 up can get the best out of him

Man owes us nothing and should go out on his own terms but it's best for all parties to call it a day. Too many eejits putting pressure on him to 'give it another year'. It would have been fitting for him to bow out in semi in 2022. Last year was a stretch but one more year would start to erode his legacy. We would be better off trying to develop young forwards in the county.

With Dermot Malone in as a coach next year it's good to see we are looking to the future in that respect but I doubt many of that minor team are ready to come through to the extended panel yet. Head scratching he was turned down for the under 20 job next year but good to see Brannigan has brought him in.

Another man stuck in the past … every club in Monaghan has players from the club and managers coaches. Get with the times … like a man united fan .. time moves on

That's the worrying thing that the Monaghan champions were beaten so easily. Does not inspire confidence for the county senior team

They're in great shape. For men of their age.

Could the new rules being potentially introduced be playing a part in the decision to stay, particularly the 3 forwards staying high up the pitch and the 2 point arc? If both of those are introduced they would suit the likes of him.

Even for his long term health it seems to be putting a lot of pressure on his body. His hips causing a lot of bother.

I think the opposite, the 3 upfront will mean you'll need 3 men who are fast, athletic and can win their own ball. Manzy has built a career coming on the loop. I can't see how a 1v1 suits older men inside

McManus could be printing this off and putting it inside his gearbag as motivation for the cold January (Feb, Mar, Apr, May) nights in Cloghan

Built a career off coming on the loop? He's probably the best player I've ever seen to win a dirty ball for us. Everything sticks. This was always his most underrated attribute. Obviously he was brilliant at coming on the loop, though you're right there. Darren Hughes is supposedly coming back also. Neither man owes anybody anything and at this point in their career, they are there solely for their presence in the dressing room. I've no problem with either coming back. If Manzy/Darren Hughes are good enough to get playing time, it says more about the quality of players we have coming through if they can't take a jersey off these lads at their respective ages HB245 (Monaghan) - Posts: 251 - 28/11/2024 13:51:31 2581598 Link 0 |
Hopefully an extended break for Darren first to mend. Struggled badly in the Kilcoo game in particular to move. If we didn't see him until April that would be plenty.

Is O Connell giving it another year also? Ye could be fielding an over 40s team in a few years.

Surely there is more, you take junior alone Conor Leonard, Kian mc area (Eire og), caolan Reilly(Drumhowan), Oisin Gleeson(Aghabog) for example then into intermidiate some of the relegation battle teams a Dean Doherty (harps) a clones man that's not even looking at other bigger teams. I think you would have no problem filling 6,7 slots for squad players open the panel up and see what you have got!

I think it's very easy to laugh at the junior level players, these players a certainly worth a trial run surely!!! New management should spread his catch net as far as possible to get the team back to division 1? Surely there are loads of talented players in the intermidiate ranks too, I wouldn't think you had to play senior level to be on a county panel??
