Replying To Meridian:  "Not sure what is wrong with Claretandblue's statement there. He's right. We were beaten by last minute goals by Meath and Louth who would be the next best in Leinster after Dublin. We are well able to compete with them so why wouldn't we look at the Championship with a bit of optimism given our performances in the League. We are in a far better place than a lot would have predicted before the League started."
The management have done really well to build a competitive Division 2 team in a matter of months. Bad game management cost us badly in those games and that's something that needs to be addressed for the championship.

Hearing some comments about westmeath been unlucky etc is very true, scoring do much and still been bet, have heard a good few times about players (defenders) coming back for championship, but some have been there for 3 or 4 games already. Defence is a big issue especially full back line all league. I did think mccormack was good against down and is improving every week. He is not a goalkeeper. Two of the regular defenders has never played county previously and one hasn't played regularly for his club. One lad looked injured when he came on against down and couldn't run much. Surely tightening up our Defence has to be the priority. It's worrying going up against roscommon who have a high scoring forward line also.

Our centre field is not working hard enough to help out our defence And most of our forwarder cannot score goals ,Which defender looked injured when he came on I thought that Moran from the downs did ok he's a big strong runner I would like to see him more on the ball, and in previous games we seem to have forwards leaning out in a half back lane. I think our centre field has to do a lot better to seem to go out of the game a lot.

I wonder will management give players game time this weekend, I think Johnny Lynam is back home He could do with some game time we need a centre field player badly, I think Kieran Martin is gone past county football he has given a great service down the years time to start putting young players in.

I think management will stick with his preferred starting 15 this weekend against Roscommon. This is a very young inexperienced team who have only played 6 competitive games as a unit so coming up to championship start more game time together is a plus.

Shamrocks better team today.
Wouldnt mind meeting them in a Championship quarter Final later in the year with full team Caulry would take Shamrocks.

I must've missed the group stage somehow, impressive how caulry consistently manage to qualify for knockout rounds months before championships even start

Great heart and character to come back in that second half and finish the league with a positive result.

Massive fight shown again today. This team never gives up! We struggled a lot at midfield today though. Our kickouts improved in the 2nd half. O'Hara got two outstanding catches in the 2nd half! Credit to Connellan for a few outstanding kickouts; he probably needs to contest kickouts more. McCabe made a big impact also.

I saw Lynam warming up before the match also which was good to see. Hopefully all the injuries clear up before the Kildare match. Could do with Baker, O'Sullivan and Guerin being back.

Brilliant effort in second half.We could with any luck have stayed in Division 2 but we have potential.

Hopelessly outplayed in the first half today-except for maybe the last 10 mins of the half but the second half was a different story. We contested and won a lot of our kick outs and attacked with pace which we have been doing all league.Delighted for the lads to have gotten something from the game.Great to see Baker and Lynam doing intense warm up before the game and Nigel Harte coming on was a huge plus.Nothing to fear going to Newbridge as Kildare are only average

Difficult game to analyse, at times in the first half we were extremely poor, undoubtedly lulled the Rossies into a sense of complacency that they struggled to get out of. We were looking at a twenty point defeat such was the porous nature of our defence and the utter capitulation on kickouts. Moving Ronan Wallace to his best position helped and Ray Conn kicked six points that proved inspirational. Defensively I'm not sure we improved that much, Roscommon missed a huge number of chances, easily had 12-15 wides or shots dropped short, Charlie Drumm needed back, league ultimately saw us relegated but with a lot of players making progress, overall an optimistic outlook and Kildare in Newbridge will be a big test but far from insurmountable.

Ye fully deserved the point, great character and composure shown to get the clutch scores.
Despite relegation, I think Westmeath should take a lot from the campaign, with the player turnover this was always going to be about development and I think ye are ahead on that. A bit more luck in those 1 score games and you would still be in Div 2.

Todays performance was positive especially in the 2nd half good to see Lynam and baker on sideline also great to have Harte back even if it was only for 35 mins it's a pity Luke Loughlin doesn't pass a nod ball to his team mates could have passed at least 4 today and we were in for scores

Hopefully we can get all back but I am not convinced that Barker can bring anything extra . He had a very average club championship last year really needed to get game time in the league but fingers crossed

Get what you're saying about him; he had also a very poor inter county year last year. But I'm sure McHugh will bring the best out of him. Like what he has done with basically the whole team this year! Does anyone know what's the story with Guerin's injury? Is there any chance of Drumm being back from the US for the Kildare game? Was a shame that Sam Smyth got injured also as he would have seen game time in the league otherwise.

Luke Loughlin is a tremendous footballer who would trouble the very best defenders in game, however, he needs to pass more.

Approx 67 - 68mins on the clock yesterday was the primest example of this. Wallace broke forward, popped a pass to Loughlin, and continued his run. Whittaker was breaking forward and was in the ideal position for a quick pass from Loughlin and if he had got that pass, Wallace was still running at the black spot. Quick interchanges in that move and the goal was there. Instead, Loughlin balloons a shot wide from 40 yards.

The second half performace was hugely encouraging for championship. They recovered well from a very flat first half and pushed till the end.

Well done yesterday, ye showed real guts and heart which ye have done all campaign. Really unfortunate with a lot of results, whereas we have been very fortunate! Best of luck in Leinster
