Replying To ExiledCuCu:  "Your previous posts always had credibility and substance, until now. The suggestion that The Downs and Shandonagh are Mullingar towns teams is quite frankly hilarious. Both clubs were setup by families who engrained community ethos that still envelopes that spirit to this day. Neither club would consider themselves to be Mullingar based. Do you associate Milltown, Ballynacarrigy, Rochesforthbridge, Kinnegad, milltownpass, loughnavalley town teams…..?? Not interested in your response to be honest."
No, Milltown and Ballynacargy etc don't have players playing who live in housing estates in the town or those clubs don't distribute flyers in housing estates in the town, can you say the same about the others?

Replying To Bluelake:  "Again all things I've said. Loads of positives as again I've said. I'm sure the lads themselves would say they're sick of morale victories. I'm not sure what the answer is, not for a second saying I do, just posing the question"
Relegation is not a surprise at this stage and it was great to see Harte back after injury, we need a full panel to be truly competitive in the new rules, likes of Guerin, O' Sullivan, Baker, have missed lots of game time during the league and hopefully will be fit for championship opener, McCornack in goals has improved significantly in the last few games and Cooney, Forde and Loughlin were very good tonight. Maybe the Tailteann cup could be a worthwhile target with this squad.

Are you saying that The Downs and Shandonagh are dropping leaflets outside of their traditional catchment area?

Was at the match and it was definately a free for a touch of the ball at the very end. A good performance again but just can't finish it off these teams were a young team great to see Nigel Harte back after a long injury onwards and upwards

This years Westmeath team have to be one of the unluckiest teams in the history of Division 2. Close in every game and had some poor decisions against you at vital times. You could easily have 6 points. In the frenzy of the bedding in period of the new rules, i think you were the biggest casualty. I wouldnt be at all surprised to see you in a Leinster final though, and i think you will bounce back easily enough next year.
If the player keep the chin up, good things are on the horizon. Looking forward, id rather be a Westmeath supporter than a Louth, Kildare, or Cork one.

It was a pleasure to be in Newry. We played some lovely football. Very unlucky not to get a result should havegot a free at the end? We missed a couple of goal opportunities we had two on one and put it over the bar and a couple of more half chances and for the last score, They had a free inside the small day. We had two players stunning looking at two down players moving down the field and worn, not picked up and the score came from that but overall, I'd be very happy with their performance

Again a good performance from westmeath in newry, as said lukes point and workrate tracking back was excellent, forde and cooney were also very good. Imagine scoring 28 points and lising it's just unheard off. For the third week in a row I think, definitely 2nd week in row a player has been brought on and taken off, same players getting chance off bench every week and without criticism they just not up to it. Some lads don't seem to be getting a chance at all. I does look harder to get of the team now than onto it. McCabe while I think is doing well need to stop engaging with crowd and officials and concentrate on game

Martin McHugh was on midlands radio speaking during the Match. He was full of positives about thr squad (you'd expect him to say that tbh). What was telling was his remark about players committing to the Westmeath squad and giving it 100% to the county. Was obviously alluding to players not on the panel & walking away.

Hopefully the performances will give the team some confidence going into the championship. They've been very unlucky. Who else have we to come back from injury? How bad is bakers injury? Could be a big addition come championship.

What he said was true. They should have won every game with the exception of the Monaghan game. They have been desperately unlucky; but a new team has been built. The management team have to take some credit even though on one wants moral victories.

Let's see do they take any learnings from the league and go & beat Kildare. Win that and it's one game away from the Leinster final. A few lads should be back from injuries for that Kildare match. That's my positive view on the league!!

If we are at full strength then we could compete with anyone in the province bar Dublin, that means Kevin O' Sullivan, Nigel Harte, Senan Baker, Brian Guerin, Fionn O' Hara all available, they're important players and missed a lot of the league, Jonathan Lynam and Charlie Drumm could be available too, Kildare's defeat today means they're far from back on track, we can give game time next Sunday to squad players and rest likes of Sam Mc, Ronan W, and Matthew Whittaker, no point in key players getting injured in a meaningless game.

Some statement form Clareandblue again more waffle. We just got relegated and your trying to say we are on par with the rest in the province Good lord also trying to talk up players that have done nothing for their club our county to date way behind the rest management are not learning either if they were we would have points on the board by now.

I fully agree. Hopefully this year is the complete opposite of last where we won almost every game in the league but lost 1st round of championship to Wicklow. With this new young team, injuries cleared up to those players and hopefully JL + CD available too we have a decent shout against Kildare in Newbridge. If we were to win that game, then louth/laois/wexford for a crack at Leinster. Defeated provincial finalists enter the All Ireland series. Certainly possible IMO.

I agree with above. I think there is a great chance of getting to a Leinster final. Kildare are definitely beatable; even though it's in Newbridge. Kirwan was injured for their game against Offaly so they will be hoping he is back for the championship .

What is the story with Johnny Lynam? I don't think he is travelling. Is he expected to return to the panel? Be a big boost if Charlie Drumm was also back for the Kildare game.

I know we have somehow lost every league game… but they're playing a lot better football than the league last year where they scrapped into a league final!!

Not sure what is wrong with Claretandblue's statement there. He's right. We were beaten by last minute goals by Meath and Louth who would be the next best in Leinster after Dublin. We are well able to compete with them so why wouldn't we look at the Championship with a bit of optimism given our performances in the League. We are in a far better place than a lot would have predicted before the League started.

It wasn't on last Monday but bank holiday may have been reason, it's on again next Monday. Hopefully the tone of it from certain guests has changed, getting the balance right is important but some comments were inaccurate and went unchallenged which is not fair.
