Westmeath are playing Armagh in there 1st game of the sam maguire series. It's on in armagh (gaelic grounds) tomorrow night at 6pm. I was one of about 100 westmeath supporters at the game last year where we performed brilliantly. No one gave us a chance that day.

Awful performance at the weekend. On paper losing to Armagh by 5 points doesn't look terrible, but the reality is, the score line flattered us. We look so limp in attack, only playing 4 forwards doesn't help. Bad start to the second half saw us needing at least a goal, which we never looked like getting. It looked like the game plan in the first half was to go long but we we were kicking the ball from far to deep. We were trying to kick long from our own half meaning Heslin was fighting to win a long ball out around the 45' which is pointless.

Think we need a couple of changes in the lineup next week. I feel Stephen Smith deserves a start, offered us more than any other forward in the 10 minutes he was on. Some of our bigger players need to step up now. I'd say 3 of our 5 best players have been poor in the majority of games this year.

Possibly we will be in white and ye in green. What I am hearing locally 4 usually nailed on starters for us will be out. All started against Derry with three of them coming off injured. I hope I am wrong. Will ye have a full complement of your regular 15? Either way this game will be very close.

I doubt it will be close kiloughter. Galway are full of confidence after recent results. Westmeath will battle for the duration but ultimately our lack of a scoring threat will prove our downfall once again. Galway by 7pts.

Westmeath were flattered to only lose by 5 to Armagh -could and should have been a lot more as Armagh did not have to push to hard to win.We gave Galway a good game last year until Comer came on and took control. Its been a long season for our lads-same for all teams-and some of our players look off form but hopefully they can turn it around on sunday-maybe introduce subs a bit earlier if things are not working out-pointless bringing on lads with 5 or 10 mins to go when you are well behind.

Yeah i don't understand the logic Bruno. Things were gonna be tough enough without then being placed into the Group of Death! We were never going to survive and the reality is that Tailteann was our level.

Dessie should have spotted and accepted this and used these games to give younger guys some exposure to this standard and look ahead to Div 2 next year. I don't see the benefit of dropping the the younger players who featured in the latter stages of the League like Scahill and Whitaker. They should be blooded here as we are not getting out of this group. No point in playing lads who its questionable if they will even return next year.

I think there's a big performance in this team. I really hope it comes tomorrow.

If rumours are true it's the last day out for Dolan, Maguire, Martin, Gonuod, Jason Daly, Lynch and maybe Heslin in a maroon jersey in Cusack Park. Let's get out and support this team and give these lads a big send off. They have gave us some great days out 2015 against Meath the highlight for me. Mad to think this is 9 years already! And some of these boys are still flying at this level

I hope none of the people saying this is a tough group let's play youngsters are involved with teams. That's not how sport works, if we cannot go through then play youngsters otherwise Dessie would be ran. Imagine that conversation in an inter county set up "Jesus lads it's a tough group no point trying, let's throw in the towel and blood players". We nearly got through a similar group last year. Get behind the lads.

Wouldn't usually read much into rumours but I think it's probably time for a few of them. Gonoud, Martin and Dolan in particular. They owe their county nothing though that's for sure

A very good performance by Westmeath today. Ronan Wallace was absolutely outstanding. A stray hand pass with 10 minutes to go ultimately cost us. Another moral victory in the end which no one wants though!

3 pts scored in second half-only 1 from play from Ronan Wallace hardly constitutes a very good performance!!-for majority of game Galway were poor as admitted by most Galway fans around us but Westmeath lacked the drive or know how to punish them-this backward/sideways play is a nonsence-5 pts from play over 75 mins confirms this.

What do you expect ? Galway have far better players than us and we were competitive. Goal was a really poor error and that was the deciding of the game. Galway will probably end up making a semi- final, not sure what we expect

A win over Derry is what we have to expect.Otherwise go to the Tailteann forever.

I think it is your good self that has the wrong idea on things here. We were never winning this game. Galway didn't even play well and won. The reality is that they rested players who were carrying knocks for this game and had the stakes been higher those players would have played. As another poster mentioned there could be as many as 7 players retiring after this season. So that's 7 replacements needed next year, a very tall order in one season (AND we are now in Div 2) and its likely that most of these will not have any championship experience. You don't think that it makes sense to prepare for that and give that experience to 2 or 3 players this year?

the team was competitive but the way we set up means we will never score enough to beat the big teams , ray connellan was very unfortunate how his pass went astray but it takes nothing from what he brings to the team . can someone please tell me what impact jason sherlock has on the team .
