Replying To Claretandblue:  "Fantastic achievement by the Mullingar school, good to see five players from Ballynacargy on the squad, Mooney from Ballynacargy changed the game as sub, scored 3-4 points, good spread from the big town clubs, 2-3 from each club, Conneely from The Downs is a tough player at half back, Aaron Connaire was excellent at full forward, two best teams in the competition were cbs and Marist in Athlone. CBS won the All Ireland in this few years ago with Charlie Drumm and Ben McGurren starring, it's a while since cbs won a Leinster's senior"
Well done to all concerned. I dont think the CBS team that won the All Ireland junior with Drumm, McGauran, Gaffney and O Hara got the chance to play in the Leinster senior because of C.19. Hopefully this talented crop make the breakthrough at senior. Fantastic work going on in CBS, a Leinster first year title ( last year), Leinster second year title and now a Leinster junior title all in 12 months. Special achievement.

Well done to CBS. Winning at this age group means there is raw talent in Westmeath.Rochfordbridge won a seinor A Leinster Final during covid. It was a very impressive win and regrettably and All Ireland final was cancelled due to covid as they looked like a team who would go all the way under Luke Demsey. Who is managing CBS.

Also our under 20s of a couple of years ago gave Offally one of their toughest games before they went on to win an all Ireland though they lost one of their marque player for the memainder of the season dueto injury late in the game
Is their enough being done to bring this Raw talent trough to county level ??

Dont know about a bit to spare -should he winning of course but Sligo have only lost 2 games and after 3 games were practically secured their div 3 status-won 3 drew 1 lost 2.With championship coming up and nothing on the game for Sligo-only pride-they might play some fringe/young players to test them.Either way Dessie and Westmeath need to go full tilt and dont let up and Id expect a big Westmeath following as well-being very good all year.

Not being negative just being realistic-I fully expect Westmeath to win and be promoted but in any game you have to respect your opponent and be aware

Risk players? To keep them for what? It's arguably our biggest game since Tailteann final, promotion in my view is more important than a decent championship campaign, might sound like heresy to some but our players need the development that would come with Div 2 football for at least one year.

We had this conversation recently, only a select number of players from the 2021/2020 u20 teams have made it to the senior set up. Charlie Drumm has looked at home until his injury. Eoin Mulvihill and Shane Allen currently showing well off the bench, Sam and Senan are established starters and then after that youre looking at Darragh Seery, Brandon Kelly, O Sullivan, Bracken and Tj cox as players that got senior game time. But it requires a huge amount of commitment to be a senior intercounty player, balancing studies and careers with three or four nights of ball or gym a week. Andy Mc Cormack has showed that its never too late to make the step up. Dont mean to go down this rabbit hole again, an u23 Development Squad would be an extra burden for clubs with players already with county u20s/Senior squads. On a related note the move to u18 and u20 grades for clubs can only be good.

Exactly. Sligo will take all the beating even without their chance of promotion, they will be out to win. They are an improving team ( Division 4 champions last year ) with Mc Entee now in his 4th year.

Can't see Dessie resting players for this game.
We are already down 4 of a possible starting back 6 in Smith, Gonoud, Drumm and Wallace, so lads are already getting their chances. Hopefully we will see some of these lads back as championship is not far away.
Add in Heslin and that's a third of a team not available last weekend against Down.
Hopefully we will go to Sligo and put in a performance to seal promotion, I feel there is more to come from this team.

Getting promotion to the 2nd tier of league football is unquestionably a big deal despite your attempts to belittle it. We have two realistic goals this year, promotion to div 2 and winning div 3 title. One of those can be achieved on Sunday and the second the following weekend. Winning a Leinster title is far fetched so we should throw everything at Sunday's game.

Could not agree more.It is essential for Westmeath get to division 2 and consolidate our position in it in 2025.This is reality not computer game stuff. When did we have a God given right to go to Sligo and win.I am afraid after five wins in a row and a home draw with a team who have hardly won a team who have hardly won an Ulster championship match in a decade has sent some people over the edge.

we have no god given right to win anything but this team deserves to win . the point im making in my posts is that the team has an inner confidence which was lacking last year . the team has self belief and will relish playing in division 2. on another note i think clare are a better team than down and i think they will beat them .

Strong team named for sligo, beginning to look alot like championship panel/team now. Heslin only one missing and I had hoped to see him tomorrow, the way danny mcCartan has been playing, he will be a loss. Get a result tomorrow and few big weeks ahead.

So having conceded less scores (66) than any other team in national league, you happy to see to defenders back. From every game I have been to, the scores seem to be where we have the issue

Over the course of the season we will need as many players back as we can. It's a panel game. Ronan Wallace is a defender is he not a loss in that case ?

I would consider ronan Wallace a defender. I think we have between 8-10 excellent defenders. All worthy of starting and two of them will probably have to fill in the half forward line and play the toughest/most demanding positions on the pitch
