Wow what a win yesterday. One word describes it for me - Pride. Proud of the lads. Proud of the performance and effort shown. Proud to be a Dub.
After trailing at the break 1-08 to 2-07, to win after extra time by 2-26 to 2-22 was very sweet.
A performance of heart, grit and determination by the Dubs. The lads showed great fighting spirit, determination and defiance in abundance yesterday.
Once again Con was our main man. How some on here think he is not, is truly baffling. As good as SB is, he is nowhere near Con.
Con finished up with 1-05 before going off with another hamstring strain. But Collie will 7pts and Paddy Small with 1-02 ensured a well deserved victory over Donegal. Excellent performance by sub Guiden, chipping in with 4pts.
I actually thought we were going to kick it away in normal time. We had over a dozen wides and some of them were very bad misses. After leading by 3pts with a min or so to go. And then that free to level it up at 2-18 each. Murphy in his 200th appearance. And rumours have it, his last.
A massive shout out for some of our stalwarts Scully, Howard and of course Ciaran. What a Trojan.
Just heard the draw - Galway. Tbh it is the draw I did Not want but sure, if we fail to beat them next weekend, that performance and win over Donegal yesterday will live long in the memory. And a great day for some our the Dublin players who are likely to call it a day after this season ends. They will have gone out with their boots on, chest out and heart filled with pride.
A word also about our injury list through the season. Horrific. And possibly another 3 players gone now also. Some talk about the injury list of other counties but the Duns have been massively hampered with our injuries this season and last season also tbh….
Anyway roll on next weekend. Great to see that either Louth or Monaghan will make an All Ireland Football semi final.
Replying To zinny: "Couldn't take their chances when it mattered and Clare found it far too easy to score at the other end. Really didn't do themselves justice."
Where to start….
At half time I thought we were still in it tbh. 0-14 to 0-11
But to only score 5pts in that 2nd half is shocking. FT score 0-29 to 0-16 in front of 13,000 supporters.
Yes we had 7 shots on goal and Quilligan made 5 outstanding saves to earn him his Man of the Match award. But Donal Burke was our top scorer with 12 of those points, and 9 were from frees.
2 very poor performances now v Galway and Clare. We are clearly not at that level yet. Probably top 6 at best after Limerick, Cork, Galway, Clare and Tipp.
Very glad to hear that David Reidy is ok after been checked out in the hospital. Really good news.
Looking at the Galway forum, they wanted, and now all seem more than happy to have got drawn with the Dubs.
Galway imo are the toughest draw we could have got so I would be happy with another performance like yesterday. Whether that will be good enough to win, who knows.
But it looks like we could be without 3 more players through injury now.
Con would be a massive loss for us.
Hopefully Cossie makes it.
But the exertions of yesterday are sure to have a knock on effect for our lads in the Galway game. It was a massive effort especially in that heat yesterday.
A double header so there should be a big crowd at it.
Replying To Ros2013: "For the first time since 2011 I found myself shouting for ye today. There is a clear agenda against ye. The ban and lack of bans for others and the decisions today made a mockery of the game. Fair play to ye and delighted for your manager."
I don't know if it was reported, but the only hope for Con is that it might of been cramp or he took a bang perhaps he just felt it tighten given the massive efforts But if its his hamstring again, he's out. As correctly mentioned above, our injuries over the last couple of seasons have been dire and hugely impactful. It's absolutely advantage Galway, even if the injury front improves *which is probably wishful thinking on my part - that was high energy level stuff yesterday and the week turn around is not in our favour. There will be a team of sore bodies today, all about recovery now, zero training. It's great to be in a 1/4 final and delighted for Ger Brennan, we can live in hope, but we'll probably have to do it without Con, fingers crossed on the others. All credit to the team yesterday though, that was a performance and result to be proud of.
