Would this be the first time we didn't reach the quarter-finals if we fail next Saturday? realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8775 - 07/06/2025 23:12:24 2615655 Link 0 |
With that result in Munster earlier, am I correct in saying that we'll meet Limerick in the quarters if we win our prelim? Deegoyaboll1x (Dublin) - Posts: 12 - 08/06/2025 01:26:02 2615667 Link 0 |
Most likely, unfortunately

No Real Dub but it only happened once .In 2003 Armagh knocked Dublin out in round 3 of the qualifiers

Have to say I am fearful of Saturday. Very hard to take positives from the Armagh game so a marked improvement needed and ideally Con returning to action. Even the latter would likely tip the scales in our favour. TrueBlue35 (Dublin) - Posts: 263 - 09/06/2025 11:18:19 2616038 Link 0 |
Yeah, not fully confident that we'll do what it takes on Saturday, we might get cleaned out in midfield which will make for a long day but we'll see.

Yep midfield the ongoing worry despite the showing in Galway the first day out. Our kickout was dismantled then v Armagh to a large degree so we need to create some sort of out ball that preferably isn't just lumping it out on top of POCB all the time. Glass is a good footballer and does have the potential to cause problems but he in my opinion is grossly overrated. Will be very interesting to see what 15 start on Saturday. I'd feel a lot better with Lee & John Small coming into the back line for a start. Basquel as great a year as he had in 2023 has never got near those heights again and not sure he'd have started if fit this weekend any way.

The main difference between the Galway game and the Armagh game imo was the absence of Con v Armagh.

Yeah can't argue with that and if Con was there v Armagh we likely would have been a lot more efficient in front of goal either due to him scoring himself or being a focal point in general to create space for better placed shooting. Interestingly has been no word at all about his return - not sure if that's a good or bad thing! One striking thing that has come from the first two games is how a top class free taker in the modern game is essential. We were spoiled with Dean Rock and try as he may Costello just isn't in any way consistent. Anything from 40+ I think he forces it and the result is a bit of a lottery - makes some and misses some. Deano was some man for slotting big frees. TrueBlue35 (Dublin) - Posts: 263 - 10/06/2025 14:54:52 2616430 Link 0 |
Con is a huge loss no doubt but we were the better team v Armagh but forgot our scoring boots. No doubt Con would have fared better than some but lads Bugler is the key. We had Con v Meath and looked lost as we had no Bugler. Its no coincidence that when Bugler is playing we are normally the better team.

Newbridge for the dubious prize of meeting a wounded Limerick in Thurles. Then hopefully one of the pubs will have GAA+ for the footballers or we will watch it on our phones. BarneyGrant (Dublin) - Posts: 3584 - 10/06/2025 23:56:33 2616570 Link 1 |
Jaysus Mick you're streets ahead of me, I'm getting old :D Was thst the one where Cluxton gave the Armagh lad a gentle tap on the leg?? realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8775 - 11/06/2025 13:16:28 2616650 Link 0 |
Indeed I m not way ahead of you RealDub.I just checked the championship on google for 2003 and 2005 cos I knew they were the years I was uncertain of.Google ahead of us all. On Cluxton im not sure was it that game or the 02 semiv Armagh he tapped the Armagh player but Id say you are correct. CiarraiMick (Dublin) - Posts: 3969 - 11/06/2025 13:55:17 2616665 Link 1 |
Yeah that was the '02 semi when Cluxton got put off. All has been long forgiven since!! ;)

No RealDub was correct. It was 2003 qualfier game Clluxton was sent off.I just googled Dublin v Armagh 2003.Armagh won by 4 points 15 to 11 and Paddy McKeever was sent off also for Armagh.Hard to believe its 22 years ago and Cluxton still playing.
