Dublin SFC Final

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kerry's Pat Spillane jnr and David Mannix both play for St Jude's in the Dublin SFC final against Kilmacud Crokes on Sunday. Jude's have two Cork brothers and an Antrim footballer in their team as well. They could have more outsiders but has a Kerry native ever won a Dublin SFC title? It had been done in the Dublin SHC with O'Connell winning more than a few with Cuala.

I'd imagine there were quite a few Kerrymen on championship winning teams in the late 30s and 40s when Garda and army Metro end even teachers had teams full of inter county players. Almost destroyed GAA in the county.

Judes have done great work over the years but if they are going to go down that road they will pay the same cost as a certain other club which has had no luck since the early 90s ...

I'll be shouting for Crokes.

Michael O Shea from Kerry won a Dublin SFC 2007 and All Ireland Club Championship 2008 at midfield for St. Vincents.

There were a few Kerry lads on the Civil Service team that won one in early 80s.

Moss Keane the rugby chap used to play for them, but think he might have been finished by then.

Tom Long from Kerry won a Dublin SFC title with Erin's Hope in 1956. Erin's Hope were the team from St. Patrick's Teacher Training College. Mattie McDonagh was on the same team.

Sound, thanks for that il give it a watch to see how young Spillane and Mannix get on.

There is a Kerry lad playing in the Cork County final for Clonakilty next week, he's supposed to be a very good midfielder.

Hi Greengrass. Many Kerry lads won Dublin county championships like Johnno Keefe and Jackie Walsh with UCD and Mícheál Ó Shea St Vincent's. Also with Garda and Civil service in the early years. Jack Maguire is the 3rd Kerry player on St Judes team and Cork have 3 men on the team also.

The late Paul Curran also won a SFC with Ballyboden St Endas in 1995. He was from Kerry but not sure if he was a Kerry player.

Those Kerry lads coming up here, taking all our financial doping money, state of the art facilities and our home advantages. :D

Hard to see beyond Crokes, looking very good. Judes are no slouches at this stage of the championship and have massive experience, a sticky well drilled team who know how to play the percentages and compete at this level of competition. Be a good game! Hard to see beyond Crokes, but be nice to see Judes get over the line and win a championship.

Yeah the Kerry lads were starved at home. Spillane has filled out since he came to Dublin. Agree Username in having to fancy Crokes but would love to see Judes win and no one would deserve it more than Kevin Mac. A real true club player.

Looking forward to viewing most of that during the week end. Good to see RTE coming on board after Tg4 successful coverage of the club championship over the past two decades.

Spillane has had a great year Mick, looking the part and looked like hes kicked on developmentally, he was MOM in the Semi for my money. Judes are a well coached side mind, every player knows their role, function and what they need to bring to the team. McGuire, not sure hes Country standard myself to be an option for yee, but a good club player.

Mackers a great lad, a real Judes man - always shows for the club and leads from the front, be lovely to see him with a County medal. Crokes look strong, though they can melt down on occasion when its put up to him. Mannion is scintillating at the moment, Rory looking strong at 6 and a very young mobile back 6 for legs around him.

I think you'll find those Kerry lads were already developed at home using Kerry money before they went to dublin :-)
