Most of those "analysts", in particular journalists, cone across as not watching many games at all. TV pundits also who don't know the names of lads playing intercounty for years, etc etc. There's no reason CTG can't win Leinster.

Go on any forum and you'd see that about the level of disrespect given to CTG. I can guarantee that they are pig sick down in KK over Thomastown losing last week. They thought they only had to show up and they'd win. The lazy punditry stems from a groupthink ideology, sure it's a team from Westmeath honest hurlers but not good enough. Well they were proven wrong and they only reason they're shocked is because of the quality of hurling CTG put on because they didn't do their research. I knew after watching the KK semifinal against o loughlins and bennetsbridge which was shocking (handling and decision making), that CTG would cause problems and probably beat Thomastown. As I posted earlier 1-27 in any county final was no laughing matter. If a team from Galway,Cork,Tipp or limerick had dismantled Thomastown in the same fashion the media would be falling over themselves signing their praises. Good club teams can come out of any county and that's the beauty of hurling. They'll never doubt Westmeath hurling again after last Sundays performance. Now let them back it up against kilcormac. 2maroonjerseys (Galway) - Posts: 101 - 21/11/2024 18:58:53 2580639 Link 6 |
Talking to a westmeath man who was at both kilkenny and westmeath county finals before CTG played thomastown and he reckoned CTG had a great chance the Kilkenny final very poor standard by all accounts. CTG have a great chance if they can keep the discipline and not give screeny easy frees to tap over. AAron glennon surely worth a look with bulfin this year has been a rock at full back. Morgan gavingan also deserves a look in has been excellent man marker as other posters already mentioned.

Castletown up by 3 pts at half time but O'Reilly getting injured in the first 10 mins could be a big loss in the second half and against a big wind. Best wishes to David O'Reilly seemed a bad injury Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 963 - 24/11/2024 14:00:15 2580991 Link 0 |
Big teams get the big decisions, clear point from sideline by clark and no way a foul by Birmingham for that pointed free to name just a few instances. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 762 - 24/11/2024 14:40:13 2581001 Link 1 |
O'Reilly injury was the difference in the end, would have scored 3/4 pts in that game Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 963 - 24/11/2024 14:40:49 2581002 Link 0 |
Hard luck to Castletown. Gave it absolutely everything, the tackle and intensity was superb. Done Westmeath very proud. A_Chairde (Westmeath) - Posts: 251 - 24/11/2024 15:10:02 2581005 Link 0 |
I agree however some games you win or lose. Moral victories agree however I thought same on Berningham foul wasn't. Clear point thought but hard see at same so I wonder what was said on tg4. That said kk bit more clinical with wind. But ctg can keep head up. Reilly was big loss Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 539 - 24/11/2024 15:20:25 2581007 Link 0 |
Progress win over Kilkenny champions but didnt get over the line in a tight game.O Reilly a huge loss.Hope the injury isnt bad hes a great talent. Good luck to KK jobber (Westmeath) - Posts: 1611 - 24/11/2024 15:25:53 2581009 Link 0 |
All correct but both goals one from the quick short puck out CTG not concentrating and screeny the one person in the country who'll ate them up. Great game as I type this na Finna a point up. I think either of those two will beat KK in the final.

Really believe had David O'Reilly not got unfortunately injured CTG would have won the game. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 963 - 24/11/2024 15:39:09 2581014 Link 0 |
That'll be a bitter one to swallow. Definitely a game left behind. BaileCrann (Down) - Posts: 48 - 24/11/2024 15:43:21 2581016 Link 0 |
Titanic performance from Castletown. But tight games like this are usually determined by a clever play, in this case 2, the way their goalie directed the ball that resulted in their 2 goals. Sorta caught Castletown off guard. Pity Castletown couldn't capitalise on the win against Thomastown but a massive year in general. O'Reilly going off injured after 10 mins and also missing Plunkett Maxwell, Naoise McKenna, David Lynch and Conor Kane who are abroad. A bit harsh to criticise them losing a tight game, it could have went either way only a lapse in concentration at the end by the CTG backs with two long hit in hope balls sent in. They'll be back again next year. Fair play to them on a great year. Surely the Murphy's, Morgan Gavigan, Maloney and Aaron Glennon worth a look from Bulfin now. Clear point and joke of a free against Bermingham, if those had gone the correct way then Niall O'Brien would have popped that last free over the bar and Castletown would have gotten a deserved draw. Thought their defence did well on Screeney and co in general, but you can't take your eye off him for a second and let him in the way they did. Hopefully whoever wins the Westmeath championship next year can build on this, nothing between all the Leinster county champions this year. iarmhi_an_mhaith (Westmeath) - Posts: 275 - 24/11/2024 16:53:29 2581027 Link 0 |
The Castletown goal followed a free and prob a yellow card for a foul on the Kilcormac full back, don't think ref cost them, Kilcormac bit more experienced, their bench with the two Kielys and James Gorman had a big impact, massive performance by Castletown, Niall O' Brien's equalising score was outrageous piece of skill, Shane Clavin had a big game too, David Maloney, Conor Murphy, Aonghus and Morgan Gavigan all excellent too. Screeney is a joy to watch, Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1945 - 24/11/2024 17:44:22 2581036 Link 2 |
I agree here. I do think ctg will likely be hard stopped if they have they but agree with you

The bulk of the Offaly team is KK and they dominate in Offaly. Castletown went toe to toe with them right into injury time and could have won. Despite like I've already mentioned O'Reilly and the players already away. I have to give credit to Lough Lene Gaels who have injected a new lease of life into the Senior championship in Westmeath, there's 4 strong teams that are contenders, improving the standard. Which helps whatever team comes out of the county then into Leinster. I know Fr Daltons went up this year to Senior A but over the next couple of years I reckon Plunketts are going to show themselves as the 5th contender. Great work at underage. Westmeath hurling is in a decent place with plenty to build on. Let's hope Bulfin gets all the top players available into the county set up for the upcoming season.
