Well done lads, only one team in it second half , some performance from Dean Healy, best of luck to ye in the quarter final , would ye like another crack at Kildare?

Congrats to the lads - and management. These guys have always had the potential to produce performances like this but it doesn't always work out that way. Fitness wise they seem to be spot on. And taking scores from distance now. Still a few wides but that will happen. Podge getting back plus Mark have been steadying influences as we thought they would. I would like to see Zach Cullen a bit closer to the team. We are in uncharted waters now so, one game at a time.

Fantastic win....well worth the journey to Longford! If we play like we did in the second half we will give any of the remaining teams a go!

You would like to think that this team is starting to find its feet.

Only got watching it this morning, some seriously good points kicked. That second half was as good as I've seen them for a long time.

Down is a tough one. Nice one for the management anyway, good bit of rivalry there.

So, it's up to Down next weekend. Our league match against them was one of our better performances. This game should show how much we may have improved since then.

Difficult draw but we may be in with a bit of a chance if we play like we did in the second half on Saturday...might be part of a double header with the Derry / Westmeath game?

Ooh. That would be good.

The toughest part of this draw is that the fact it is on Down's home pitch. I was hoping that the games would be at neutral venues but I assume home advantage is the prize for topping the group which is fair. I missed last weekend's game but reading the reports, it seems that the second half performance was the best half of football this team has produced during Oisin's reign if not in a long time by a Wicklow team. In the past couple of years, this team's performance seem to tail off as the season progresses and while the team is still inconsistent, they seem to be gaining momentum as the season progresses. Down, Kildare and Fermanagh are probably the three top teams left in the competition so an away fixture either of those three is always going to be tough. Personally, I would have liked to get another crack at Kildare as I think we left the last game against them behind us plus the game is on a neutral venue as Kildare don't have a home pitch at the moment.

As a matter of interest, Westmeath beat Down in the Division 3 league final and we beat Westmeath so there is no reason why we can't beat Down if the team produces the same performance as they did against Westmeath. Anyway, best of luck to the team and management at the weekend.

I echo the best wishes to all involved at the weekend. I also agree that we are capable of getting a win if we play to our strengths., and as well as we have shown we can. Therein lies the crunch - which team will turn up ? We thought we were over the hump after a good finish to the league, then the Westmeath and Kildare games. But then we had the Fermanagh display . I have no intention of dissing Fermanagh here and they were the better team but they are not that as far ahead of us as the scoreline showed, in my opinion.

From the looks of the weekends score forecasts, there wouldn't appear to be much point in our lads venturing north. Most forecast a Down win by from 7 to 14 pts. Some around 4 to 7, with a few charitable ones from 1 to 4. No draws or Wicklow win as yet.

I can understand Down being favourites with the bookies but if i remember correctly, no bookie or pundit picked us to beat westmeath but our players turned up, played well and beat westmeath fair and square. This proves that this team is capable of beating any team in yhe tailteann cup competition. Equally westmeath had just beaten down in the league final, a week earlier. I think the fermanagh match was a bad day at the office. Down are a better outfit than leitrim presently so this a tougher match to win but down are not unbeatable by any means. I think the game being in down is the toughest aspect of this match.

I wasn't able to attend nor follow the game yesterday; only saw highlights on the tv last night. Concession of the goal was a result of poor defending. It was always going to be a tough game away to down who haven't lost at home in two years. I made it to a handful of games this year. Overall this year was a mixed bag - some disappointing performance especially away to fermanagh alongside some good performance especially against westmeath and kildare in the leinster championship. This squad is good enough to be promoted to division three but inconsistency is a big problem. Performance vary from poor to mediocre to good. I think defensively the team need to be tighter if they want to take the next step up. We concede too many soft score particularly goals. The one positive i did notice throughout the season is a never say die spirit within the team and squad. Our outstanding player this season is dean healy. I'm not sure we'll see him next year, if not he has gone out on top form and has provided great service to the county.

Another weak point is our inability to take our scores. We seem to fluff simple or what appear to be simple tap overs. In my opinion, Down should be a comfortable Div 2 team. I suppose if we have learned anything from the year it is that from u17 through u20 to senior we need to wise up and take our scoring chances. We are still a bit off the required standard at all levels.

Our players need to be playing at a consistency higher level. The higher our players play at, the more they'll learn. Teams at the highest level won't afford our players time, space nor opportunities. You'll be punished for the smallest errors. Club football within the county is too pedestrian. The positive thing is that the squad is a young squad and hopefully as they gain experience they'll become more cute in terms of defending and clinical in terms of scoring. I think it is called efficiency.

Big Congrats to Eire Og who have taken the honours at senior this year. A good mix of youth and experience in the right areas.
Hopefully a strong run in the championship now.
Rathnew moving well but were missing some of their better players and others looked like they are only getting fit. They will be in the mix in the championship.
