Replying To Sligonian: "Having watched Kildare and Fermanagh which was awful stuff it just showed how much we regressed this year.
One thing that was clear to me watching Galway lose yesterday, Mayo and Roscommon recently, all of them are beatable on the day. A Connacht senior title is not some unrealistic target. Look at what good management can do quickly, regarding Brennan with Meath. They weren't really pushing on with O Rourke but they have now in the space of a year.
The next manager appointment is huge. Some nonsense posts on here lately which are best ignored and of no value. County board met last week but no announcement on selection committee? Hopefully we do our due diligence.
For me - I would approach Mickey Harte and Luke Bree as coach, as my no1. I would bring in Gerry McGowan as selector with a view to taking over eventually in a few years. That would be my no1 choice. Caroline Currid is involved with Irish rugby now but I would still try to get her involved.
My second choice would Kevin Johnson with Enda Mitchell as coach. Johnson has to go for it. He will never get a better chance and timing too with all the younger players.
I think Gerry McGowan could make a great manager one day but he reminds me of a Kinnerk for Limerick more so.
We have loads of talented coaches and Managers within Sligo. McPartland was outstanding with Coolera, Mark Breheny has always impressed me with Mary's, McGee who was involved already impresses me with the school. Sloyan obviously helped us with a major breakthrough. McGowan has a great CV. O hara has impressed with Mohill. Obviously rate Mitchell and Henry very highly but not sure where they would fit in. Mitchell would be great as coach and selector. Loads of options for selectors with a view to managing one day.
To be honest there are very specific questions I would ask in the interview about the squad and quite honestly if any of them answered in way that we go back using players we already know aren't good enough then I wouldn't let them near the job. We can't afford to waste more time on lessons that should already be learned.
It was good to see Molaise beat Coolera in Ransboro. A tough place to go and important from a mental perspective. They were missing Keelan Harte who is injured but Laffey, McDaniel, Doherty all started and Murphy came on. I am sure they are way behind in work done so no doubt will improve a lot over next few weeks, same for us. McLoughlin started for us and Spillane cant play until championship. We were missing 4 or 5 others but we have a bunch of good minors from last few years showing well and gaining experience.
Harps are showing really well this year and make the other championship group look a bit tougher. Tourlestrane at home to Coolera on Friday who look like they may have to get something should be a cracker. Shamrock Gaels and Harps the last game could decide who goes into the final. Both ends of the table will be interesting finishes."
Who is this Caroline person? You have not mentioned her before.

Replying To Bumblebee123: "I won't bother with the other post above but I will ask why you think McStay?"
Kevin McStay would bring something exciting for the players. A name, A media attention, A serious GAA person with the ability to bring the best coaching ticket available. Before people say we would struggle with media attention... we don't exactly set the world on fire without it. Something just feels right about getting Kevin at this stage, Don't know anything about his health issues but if they are not too serious, Sligo could be a perfect opportunity for him to get back on the horse. There is a good team there at the minute, not sure about a good panel but there has to be options to bring in. He would certainly want to prove Mayo CB wrong and would have fire in the belly to do well with Sligo.
Kevin Walsh an outside bet maybe? An easier commute to Sligo than Cork I guess! Not the pool of players he had to pick from in 2009 but starting from Division 3 this time…
