Replying To Anto:  "Poor result this evening. Losing 2 of your better players in the 24 hours before the game doesn't help. Conor Walsh (who I believe broke his arm yesterday) absence was especially costly as we were destroyed in midfield. It's unlikely that we will progress to knockout stages now so it will be a short campaign."
The result was harsh enough on this team. It was 1-10 to 9 pts going into the final quarter and obviously they pulled away as we started looking for goals. It is a tough game to analyse given I felt we were pulled a dragged back a lot when we them on the run and nothing was given and Roscommon's first 2 pointer was 3 feet inside the arc. So it didn't feel like a 9pt defeat.

I thought Tommy Ross looked outstanding at CHB and Rian and ROKL looked very good alongside in the half back line, Niland and D Walsh were excellent at times in the HF line but had an awful lot to do. All those lads are leaders. We got dominated pretty much everywhere else. Roscommon caught some amount of clean ball.

That's true, losing Conor Walsh the day before was a big blow and the inside line needed an Eli Rooney. We created loads of good forward positions and so many were close to goal chances I felt we left plenty of scores behind us. I thought our subs looked decent without ever cutting through. I actually thought some of our lads had fitness issues and pace issues throughout and maybe why we fell away late on as others were tired from compensating.

We will have Galway at home next and Leitrim Away and Mayo at Home.

We are under serious pressure now and I remember this team at minor and disappointedly there is regression evident from what I saw. Honestly if we are competitive against Galway and Mayo and beat Leitrim you'd take that right now.

You don't agree with me and yet I agree with you!!!!
That's a bit strange.
My point was that all players over the age of 17 last year were denied an U 20 competition. Some of these wouldn't make their club senior team be that senior/intermediate/junior but was it fair not to hold a competition. You are correct that some U.20 would not be eligible but my point was that the competition should have gone ahead. It doesn't attract a huge amount of interest but it's up to the co board to make it more attractive. There are now a number of grounds with lights. I think all other counties in Connacht held the competition.

Replying To Sligonian:  "All the best to the Sligo u-20s tomorrow night against Roscommon in the Hyde. When minor we beat them by 4 pts in the Hyde so hoping for a similar result. Roscommon started very fast against Mayo last week and looked good and clinical but faded after that. I don't like having a bye in the 1st round but it is what it is. The game will be streamed. Anybody know how we are looking?"

Very disappointing start to the Connacht championships for both underage teams. It's a little alarming as we weren't really in either game. The under 20s look like they might have something about them so who knows they might take a scalp.

After watching Mayo it's very hard to know about next weekend. They are no world beater but A lot of things will have to go right for us and we'll have to have our tactics spot on. I just want us to be in this with 10 mins to go and see what happens. I think 15/2 is fairly generously priced to Mayo.

If ye can quieten O Donoghue and possibly Ruane you never know..
McHale park does them no favours at times with the stand full of Mayos roaring at them..

It's so good of you to come to visit our page. I would have thought that you would be busy trying to analyze another no show by Mayo in a final today. For us to have a chance you might need to score 2 own goals or maybe change your keeper midway through the game. With supporter's like you it's not difficult to see why you are perennially the butt of every joke in the country. Safe travels to Castlebar next weekend

Once Sligo have beaten Mayo in MacHale Park in championship football, 1975 and since then it's been 7 defeats. A good time to get that 2nd win and end a 50 year wait.

Championship week is upon us. Mayo v Sligo in Castlebar. I have mixed feelings on our chances tbh. Kerry curtailed Mayo's pace well today but I don't see Sligo doing as good a job. They run a lot of forward attacks through Hession coming out of defence and they use McLaughlins pace to break lines and create space. They don't really have any great footballers anymore, its all about athleticism and pace with Mayo nowadays. O Shea causes us problems, McGuinness usually isn't able to handle him. He will need help as I haven't seen us stop his physicality before. The space in front of the FB lines needs to be covered somewhat. Ruane too is a danger from midfield. Ryan O Donoghue who had a quiet enough game today will take a lot of watching. I don't know if McNamara or Lyons can handle him tbh especially if he gets good ball. If we can put Mayo under pressure you have a chance but I honestly don't know if we will. We've beaten there u20s last 3 years and that should count for something in terms of belief but Mayo have hammered us recently at senior so there is mentality damage there. Mayo will not respect Sligo so they will push forward a lot more than today and push the gain line, if we are clever we can funnel their speed into traps.

For us Cummins being injured recently concerns me as I don't see him being 100% and he already lacks pace, great going forward but he will leave the full backs exposed and he won't mark his man. They'll start him even on one leg which I don't agree with but I hope he is fully fit.

We need Mulligan and O Connor to get some sort of parity in midfield. This Sligo team should be built on winning breaks and short kick outs. Mayo's forwards are very good at pressing and tackling defenders coming out of defence. We need to be careful but confident enough to pass it forward. I'd say Spillane and Hession will battle it out, hopefully we can have him to do some defending. Murphy can definitely do damage to those Mayo backs but will struggle to find separation, Mayo rotated 3 on Clifford all day and limited him well enough in fairness. For me we need Lally to find form, we need a confident Lally firing on all cylinders, winning ball and running at Mayo. If he can't find form he probably won't start. Hoping McLoughlin for us can find separation and be in scoring positions. I expect a big game from Towey, Mullen and Cox for us. Eddie needs to back himself if O Shea goes in FF and play on the front foot. I really hope the Sligo players exude the body language of belief and trust in themselves and not of fear.

Championship is different and any weaknesses will be exposed. I have a far idea of ours but we will see for ourselves on Sunday. Its a great test for all involved, hopefully we can rise up to meet it. And if we have a lead late on lads, hopefully we keep the ball moving but have cover behind the ball. We need to watch the momentum swings too. I know some of ye on here will be sticking your chests out like the Sligomen I saw after the 1997 Connacht final as a teenager with a morale victory but for me you wear black and white and you either win or lose and I fail to find any solace in morale victories. I wish going into this I trusted Management to get the tactics, match ups and team selection right but Sunday is a chance to build that trust and the people of Sligo who are ambitious and who are not happy with mediocrity are owed a hell of lot better than the last 10 years at senior and deserve a big statement senior win. If McEntee and Keane are so bloody good after 5 and 7 years, then now is the time to show us. You've had enough time. All the best to all, Sligeach abu.

I replied to a Galway troll obsessed with Mayo. You don't think it's odd he's on your page .

Mayo are a top 8 team in transition who won't win the All Ireland but will beat Sligo with a bit to spare. You disagree with that?
