Usual ***** from the management. We won't know the team until the throw in I suppose. Really annoying and insulting to supporters (all counties not just Sligo). They are hardly going to . pull a rabbit out of a hat by naming Pat Hughes in goal and Devanney corner forward. Murphy I assume is out but after that I have no idea what team will start

If they were picking on form and picking players if their usual positions you might have some notion as to the starting team. My guess would be there will 2 wing backs starting at wing forward, a forward starting in midfield, a midfielder starting at wing back. A lot of square pegs in round holes. Meanwhile there are better players sitting on the bench and other players like Lally, Nicolson, C Breheny, L Gaughan, GOKL, JF Carr,, Ryan Feehily, McKenna, Carroll, Cawley who won't play for the current mgmt. If we are to lose at the weekend th only positive will be it will be the last game of the McEntee/Keane era.

That's a very negative post Anto, at least half of the players you have mentioned are not good enough or do not have the mentality for the commitment to county football. You sound very bitter there, have you some sort of connection with any of the mentioned players?

The mood is good with the recent U20 and Minor successes so I don't understand the huge negativity.

We are where we are, we are facing another div4 side which should be an excellent battle. I expect us to have a point or two to spare but I wouldn't be surprised with ET. This is our level for now and embrace it, if we get over this test Croker awaits!! Sligeach Abu

Have to give it to the lads and McEntee we were the better team today. Dominated the game for long periods. Should've had it won in normal time. Few small things to fix such as our composure in front of goal. Must say our defenders were good today aswell. Got cut through too easily at times but definitely think it was a decent defensive display.

Great to win. I wasn't confident that we could do it but we did. Probably made hard work of it as we should have won it in normal time but that's football. It also appears that the Leitrim goal scored in extra time should have stood. This will put to bed any negative issues towards the management team. The team certainly played with a united front. It was wonderful entertainment on a Sunday afternoon.

Good win yesterday and it was some game to be at. A great boost for the Tailteann Cup. Should have closed it out in normal time and we nearly got caught as some changes were made too late and our shooting was very poor. Some major positives to take away. When Carrabine, Paddy O'Connor etc are on form, we're a match for most teams. Leitrim cut through us easily though which is a worry. Saying that, Keith Beirne is absolutely class. Wonder will
Murphy be fit for Cavan or is that a long term injury? A huge game for McEntee. If we're competitive, it's hard not to see him getting the reins for '23. Very disappointing Sligo crowd yesterday. Hopefully that improves for Croker but being on TV doesn't help that.

Well done lads and best of luck in Croke Park. Tough for us to lose on penalties but have to admit that after a bad start sligo were the better team in normal time. Great atmosphere in Carrick yesterday best in years. This Tailteann Cup could be a great success after all.

I said it 2 weeks ago, it's a done deal Mc Entee is there next year irrespective of yesterdays result. There won't be many posters on here as the easy option was to slate the management over the last few months as opposed to supporting the team. Yesterdays match was one of the most entertaining games of this year's championship. Quality of fare might not be top notch but for entertainment it beat all the provential finals except oddly enough Connacht

The quality was very good and Keith Beirne would grace any county team. How we won without catching one clean ball around the middle of the field is probably testament to our overall organisation and structure. Most enjoyable game I've attended in years and really there isn't a kick of a ball between the two counties at the moment. Carabine is a fine footballer but he is asked to do too much and Keelan Cawleys legs won't last forever.
We must get to Div3 soon and consolidate from there.

In fairness Alan Reilly was a great option for kickouts, in the second half he must of won 5 in a row between clean catches and getting fouled. Keelan Cawley was excellent, he snuffed out countless attacks with last ditch turnovers and was the outball for Sligo running it out countless times. There is still a lot more in the likes of O'Connor Reilly and Carrabine if they get the shooting right. Another 17 wides? Carrabine is a fine athlete and was unlucky for the goal chance. He will cause any team in this competition trouble. He drifts between lines and finds himself free and awful lot. He probably won't be back but it's a pity Murphy is injured, would add a different dynamic and with how much ball we won in the FF line v Leitrim I feel he would've had a field day. It's also a pity Eddie McGuinness is injured, not much word about him but before the emergence of Evan Lyons he was the main defender, add him back into that defence and it only improves. Very excited to see how we fare v Cavan, surely a serious vibe in the camp now following that game. Again Leitrim outnumbered us supporter wise which is a pity when carrick is as close as venue as we could play in bar a home game. Their support was phenomenal, after full time they were roared into the dressing room for extra time. I can't see us travelling well to croker when we can't travel to carrick but I hope I'm wrong.

I think we will have enough to keep close to Cavan for 65 mins and the two extra time games will stand to us towards the end if we stay in it. Sligo have shown great heart the last two games and are playing for eachother. Not getting walked over and shying out of battles like previous years. Our full back line has been at its best in years this year. Half back line is where we are leaking goal chances from. If we can sure it up there we will be alright.
I think a strong crowd will travel to Croke park. Everyone I have spoken to is going along with their friends and families.
Tickets out now.

Would also feel our half forward line needs to score more. Realistically we need our half forward line taking on more shots if we want to beat Cavan. Our full forward line can't do it all every day. We do chip in with scores from our half back line and midfield but our wing forwards don't shoot. Gordon and Cawley are also well capable of scoring. Not a criticism as they do top class hard work for us with their hard running and turn overs.
Do we start Marren midfield the next day and push carrabine to wing forward but let him float around midfield/half forward line free roam sort of role?

Think we have a great chance against Cavan. Team really stood up. Some players are just peaking so nicely. Reilly and Paddy looked very good. Was very impressed with Towey again, he is so dangerous and brings serious pace to the attack. Can't wait to see them boys in action in 2 weeks time!!!

Could potentially switch around Gordon/Cawley with Towey to get more scoring threat?

Great to be looking forward to a day in Croke Park. Cavan are the ideal opponents as we will be underdogs again and sneak in quietly under the radar. Certainly these extra games are helping us develop as a team. Spillane was excellent in the first half, not as prominent in the second half but was unlucky to be withdrawn. In the past I was critical of our keeper but I must eat humble pie and acknowledge that he is very good with super kick outs. O Reilly is an outstanding player and not afraid to shoot. Carrabine and O Connor are equally very effective. In the backs Evan Lyon's is having a great year and Mc Namera and Kilcoyne have found their best position. We are a little short in a few places but I suppose that's why we are in Div 4. On the club scene I assume that Co players won't be able to play with their clubs this weekend. This is really hurting some clubs especially Coolaney as they are Shipping some heavy beatings. Tourlestrane are in cruise mode in Div 1. In Div 2 Curry are not exactly shooting the lights out either. You would expect Drumcliffe and Curry to get promoted but Ballymote have loads of potential, a good manager but all down the years they lacked leadership and never seen to be on the same hymn sheet.

Will David Philips be playing?

Not sure what the story is with him. I assume he got a suspension after the match against Roscrib but I don't know for how long. Did he play for Cavan ?
