Replying To carlowman:  "A different tram started last night and played against a very strong and accurate Dunlin team

Waterford and Antrim.were wasteful but Dublin took control in the second quarter with long range points galore.
I know that some were disappointed to see a few not starting but I think its great to see so many players being given plenty of time on the starting team.
After all, look at the footballers and the number of players that have left while the hurlers have kept almost all players.
Dublin could shake Leinster if last night was anything to go by but they will need to play with the same confidence they showed last.night

Laois are up next and that I think it is the biggest game of the year so far.
Hopefully all the bruises etc sustained after Antrim and Dublin will be healed sufficiently to really put in a big performance.
Free taking was good lasr.bight from Ciaran Whelan I thought. Chris finished well intercepting the short puckout was excellent and finished his goal really well. Paddy Boland caught some great balls and his goal was top class.
Marty still has it and showed his finishing instinct with his goal and a neat point as well.
Last night is done and dusted but next Saturday really is the big one.
The backs midfield and half forwards were really tested physically and psychologically last night and the pace of the game will stand to the panel over the next few weeks.
Dublin in Parnell Park was a very tough ask

Management know what they are doing too. I have full confidence in them. Their record speaks for itself."
The manner in which we dropped point against antrim may haunt us in terms of promotion still

Even if we'd beaten Antrim, we'd have been relying on (an already promoted) Offaly to beat a hungry Waterford in Dungarvan. Not very likely.

And we'd still have to beat both Laois and Westmeath.

If we had beaten Antrim, then wins against Laois & Westmeath would put us on 9 points with Offaly. If Offaly beat Waterford then Waterford would finish on 8 & we would have finished ahead of Waterford, if Waterford win it would have come down to score difference between us & Offaly
All irrelevant now.

Their score differnce is plus 31, and ours is minus 4. A one point win over Waterford would have made it minus 3.

We'd have to give either Laois or Westmeath a massive hiding--while winning both--and hope Waterford do a big number on Offaly.

A lot of ifs and buts there.

I didn't think I'd need to go into all that detail.

Sorry I meant a one point win over Antrim, not Waterford.

Simply pointing out that the Antrim draw cost us & a victory would have seen us still in the shake up. As I also said all irrelevant now

Will be difficult game in portlaoise on Saturday. I didn't make the Dublin game and the Antrim game left me feeling flat even though it was a draw. Laois will be fighting for survival in the division and they received a fair bit of criticism from within for their performance against Antrim. That should see them lifting their game for us. I believe we'll win but can't afford bad patches like in the previous 2 games. Would rather be heading into the last game v westmeath having secured survival.

Great to secure our position in 1b today with that win in portlaoise. Looked to have let it get away from them at one stage but came up trumps when the chips were down. Could try a few players in the last game v westmeath as realistically promotion chances are all but gone. Been a good league showing which hopefully sets them up for the McDonagh Cup.

Great win for Carlow today especially up in portlaoise important that we kept our division 1b status for next year.

What more can be said about likes or Marty James d kev Mac Chris Nolan Brian Tracey et all never fail to give there all for the cause and after antrim game I was nervous we could lose today and get involved in a relaxation final where anything could happen.

Have said numerous times before but Carlow hurlers are incredible bunch of people who constantly punch above and give everything no matter who they play fair play again lads and thanks for another great day.

Laois hurled as if their lives depended on it today, and we still beat them. That speaks volumes.

It's likely we will play them twice again this year. In high stakes games.

If it should come to pass, they wont' be easily won, by any means.

Nexy year's 1B will be interesting--assuming the GAA don't butcher the format again. Clare, Wexford, Carlow, Antrim, Dublin, Kildare, Down.

Anyone of four teams could take second spot.

Gutsy from the hurlers today because Leix were really up for it today.

James Doyle coming in made the difference as did Marty's frees. Ted Joyce had a cracking game and Paul Doyle and Kevin Mac as steady as ever.

Div 1 hurling guaranteed for another year.

Great day for Carlow gaels. Hurlers got the job done but never played with any fluency and really had to dig it out. Augurs well that they did though specially with a few below their usual very high standards today. James Doyle really did make a big impact when he came in and was the wining of it. Can't wait to see a full strength team starting come championship as management seem to clearly be using these games to rest certain main men which is great once we've now secured Div 1 hurling again for next year.

Then the footballers put in some performance especially first half today. I couldn't believe it to be honest and to be 17 points up at half time must be a first ever for a Carlow senior football team???

Great to see choo choo back and what a difference he made with a brilliant run for his goal and Mikey with a trademark goal as well. Credit where it's due. I've written the footballers off for 2025 bug delighted if I'm proven wrong. They now need to back it up with another win and hopefully a convincing one next week in London.

A hard fought win in hurling. Missed a huge amount of goal chances in first half which nearly came back to haunt us. We dug deep and mouse was cool under pressure. Loads to work on but a very good league campgain. Apart from first half against dublin as good as anyone we played. Tought jon doyle was a major handful today and paddy boland is returning to form. I think theres a big kick in this team. An all. Ireland quarter final is very possible.

Dis nt go to football. Shocked at mannmer of win. Speed is our only usp and seemed to show tonight. Would be worried about meath game but hoping for kind draw in tc

Hugh result for the hurlers today. Laois were fighting for their lives & while we can play better we got the job done. Can relax now & give game time to the panel against Westmeath. This result will hurt Laois as they don't like losing to us & they now relegated also. We will meet them again in Mcdonagh so good to lay a marker down.
I couldn't believe my eyes at the football. 17 points up at half time but fully deserved as we moved the ball so fast. Cho cho scored a great early goal & delighted to have him back. They came back into it in 2nd half but that was always going to happen as we were so far ahead. We have always struggled to beat Longford & the only other victory I remember was back in 2004 in the Championship under Luke Dempsey. They were so poor today but we did our job well. Thought Bambrick, Cho Cho, Liam Brennan had good games & hopefully we can get another result next week against London to lift confidence for that daunting task away to Meath

Our hurlers really dug it out today. Laois hate losing to us. To beat them while not playing very well was great.
Marty was super from frees. The team overall worked very hard and Laois won a lot of breaking ball and none of our forwards had a huge amount of space and room to play in. Laois lost quite a few players due to injury before the game but they put in a huge effort. They were ahead in the second half and it looked like they would pull away and to come out the right side of the game shows the toughness of this team.
They really are a terrific bunch of players and have given so much to the jersey.
Excellent management team but the players are magnificent. We are so lucky to have a great bunch of hurlers.
Hopefully the plan of resting some players will give more panel members more game time next week.

The Swallow is an Irish owned bar--the far side of the RAF airbase. A lot of people go to the Middlesex arms to watch the foreign games, before and after the main event.
