If you are flying via Heathrow this weekend not looking great … Bainisteoir (National) - Posts: 569 - 21/03/2025 07:44:46 2597582 Link 0 |
Assuming the team are travelling that way - will the game even go ahead?

The team will be using the RAF airport beside the ground. Our wonderful county board has hired a charter plane. A de Havilland Comet.

Hurlers obviously decided to give their panel a game today which I can understand as they deserve a chance but it's a double edge sword. Westmeath will now feel like they can beat Carlow & we have to play them in the Mcdonagh. It's not the same seniaro but I remember 2 years ago Offaly sent a second string to play us in the Mcdonagh as they were already in the final & the hiding we gave them gave us a massive confidence boost before the final. I would rather we started today with a full team & beat Westmeath & then make changes in 2nd half. The 3 favourites for Mcdonagh are Carlow, Laois & Westmeath so why give them a pick me up before Championship? Other posters will argue that the game time for the panel players is important which I agree with to a point but in my opinion you don't give a sucker a chance. carlo (Carlow) - Posts: 251 - 23/03/2025 01:43:15 2597886 Link 0 |
Not sure I agree with you . All the panel players have had game time. And some have been rested over the past few weeks for some games or parts of matches. Yesterday the panel members nearly pulled a win. I westmeath will know our panel and know well that some players who did not start will be facing them in the Joe Mc. Healthy competition for team places drives a team on. That is an important ingredient and our management team have successfully brought in players who not just push the more established players but who will in time be replacing them as they retire. Final point is that the lads have had quite a few games in the league and the break will do them good before they refocus now for the Joe Mc. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1861 - 23/03/2025 10:02:32 2597911 Link 0 |

I would not worry about yesterday at all. Lasy year the hurlers beat Leix by 5 points in Portlaoise when it mattered (to get promoted) and then lost to Kildare by 4 in a dead rubber. After that they lost the meaningless league final by 13 to Laois (at home). A few weeks later--again when it mattered--they ran Dublin to five and drew with Kilkenny. There was nothing at stake yesterday. Let's see what happens in the Joe Mac. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 800 - 23/03/2025 11:55:25 2597926 Link 0 |

I checked the reports and 28 players saw proper game time over past two weekends which is unreal, and still should have got a result yesterday other than a freak goal. Everyone of those are entitled to their opportunity as full panel are totally commited to improving Carlow hurling and not prioritising self rewards. Not like some with other code unfortunately. League over, will have no bearing on championship, in theory either Carlow or Westmeath could be out of it before they meet again with 3 prior matches. Delighted to see Daragh, Colm, and Donagh, getting first league starts I think, may be missing someone. Looks Good for the future. Well said COTC. Fantastic commitment from everyone yesterday in dreadful conditions. On another issue, just 2 reports on X during all of today's match. Had to rely on London gaa for updates. Just not good enough but no surprise unfortunately. Overthebar53 (Carlow) - Posts: 330 - 23/03/2025 14:59:43 2597959 Link 0 |

We played four matches in four weeks and will face 5 matches in 6 weeks next month. Proper order to give the panel members a start yesterday and rest most of the team. I'd be wrapping Mouse, James Doyle and Chris Nolan in cotton wool before the Joe Mac. Good performance by the panel too. carlovia (None) - Posts: 1534 - 23/03/2025 16:04:41 2597988 Link 0 |
Yeah, by 14 points. We then hammered them by 19 points in the first round of the Joe Mac. Some turn around in a couple of months. CARPS (Carlow) - Posts: 800 - 23/03/2025 17:51:19 2598036 Link 0 |
