All eyes on Celtic Park now tomorrow and best wishes to AVS as they try and make history and be the first ever Donegal school to take the MacRory Cup back to the county. ThroughTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 64 - 08/02/2025 20:20:15 2590122 Link 1 |
I was thinking of going to Celtic park today to watch the Abbey VS game but then I saw BBC were streaming it. On closer inspection, I'm not sure this will be watchable this side of the border. Does anyone know the craic? WeGoAgain (Donegal) - Posts: 60 - 09/02/2025 11:02:46 2590190 Link 0 |
BBC link working for me.

Aye, got it working thanks. Hard to believe Abbey could very well have leveled the game right at the death. Maghera deserving winners and while disappointing, still a fantastic achievement to make the final.

O'connor moaning about donegal having more work done, we have to have work done by now, we have derry on the horizon....while kerry have don't even a division 1 team to face in munster, inequity of the provinces which he fails to mention...

It was hard to figure out alright as st pats were a better rounded team with more strength in depth. It was a pity they didn't have a way of getting a few short kick outs away in the second just to secure a bit more possession. They were killed around the middle for most of the second half. And loads could learn from the work four masters are doing.

It was great to be there to see a first Donegal win in Killarney. And it was actually really nice to get an away win in division 1 period. We've struggled pretty badly away from Donegal in division 1. There was a Conor O'Donnell point not given and it was a point. Over the last few games the most noticeable change is the kickouts. It's becoming close to a lottery. Kerry had dominance at times and then Donegal did. It's a real through back and a good thing. It's nice to see a big of legitimate contest for the ball. Patton still did get a few long ones away to players in space but not too many. With it and say the solo and go the pace is pretty relentless and players have to fair cover the ground. Near the end both teams were pretty gassed. It does create opportunities for players off the bench and was good to see Jamie Brennan make the most of that. Ryan mchugh and the two odonnells did very well. Nice to see Conor O'Donnell get two matches in a row. With his injuries not sure when that last happened. Young roarty did well too and the block near the end was very important. Ulsterchamps_32 (Donegal) - Posts: 783 - 09/02/2025 18:04:58 2590283 Link 0 |
100%. They simply couldn't get hands on ball for very long periods due to Pat's dominance in midfield. I feared a drubbing at one point but to their credit, they stuck in there.

I'm shocked to hear that, Maher is a power house player around the middle, big and mobile and powerful.

I fully agree, but that's the nature of the Ulster open draw , where you end up facing a Division 1 side in the Preliminary round of Ulster maybe 6-8 weeks before Kerry face any type of stiff challenge. The insinuation by Jack O'Connor is that Donegal were holding collective training for months before anyone else, which is negative nonsense, driven by a few people with either an anti-Jim McGuinness or anti-Donegal GAA agendas. If we're ruffling Kerry's feathers we can take it as a good sign. In years gone by there'd be no word of who was training when, when they frequently sent us up the road with our tails between our legs. A great win at the weekend. I think it's very encouraging that in our two games to date, at stages in the second half it looked like the opposition was gaining momentum. But we have been able to regain control and eke out the wins. People like Jack O'Connor might whinge that we're fitter at this time of year or whatever. But you also have to consider that we're not at full strength yet either, with the likes of Murphy, McF-F, McColgan, N O'Donnell & Jason McGee yet to feature. The games are coming thick and fast, and get no easier. It would be great to lay down a marker against Armagh this weekend. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9583 - 10/02/2025 11:26:26 2590382 Link 0 |
Yeah Michael Langan is a massive loss for us too, he barely lasted a minute in the game, to beat Kerry without himself and Jason McGee in midfield is a huge plus. Obviously having the likes of Michael Murphy, Niall O'Donnell, Eoghan McGettigan, Odhran McFadden Ferry, Caolan Ward, Caolan McColgan etc all available would make it a formidable squad.
