Fair play to Donegal, they turned up, Kerry didn't.
It was a big day for Kerry's fringe players to step up and they didn't. Donegals young guns played a tight organised game at the back. Very impressive. Hugh McFadden as a third midfielder opened up space inside. Still think Donegal are going to be up against it this year but the won't lie down. Donegal keeper got very lucky with a couple of his kick outs nearly got punished a few times, but great Donegal win.

Replying To SouthOfTheGap:  "A very courageous display by Donegal today. They were 6 points behind, and Kerry were in control. To steady the ship, and to get it back to 3 by half time gave us real hope at half time, especially with a strong breeze in our favour in the second half.

We had a fantastic opening to the second half, and showed terrific spirit. Kerry came back very strong, and dominated for a 10/15 period before the last 5 minutes.

In my view, Patton's inclusion was crucial, his kick outs put opposing teams back a step towards their own goal. Curran wasn't bad, a tigerish display. McColgan was unbelievable. Midfield broke even. All of our half forward line acquitted themselves very well. I thought Jamie Brennan was also very good, in that he was offering himself as the outball when we needed it, and he was stretching the Kerry defence.

Overall, delighted with the points. We got Kerry at the right time. And looking at the fixtures ahead, if we get a victory against Tyrone next Sunday I believe that we will be free from the threat of relegation for another year. Next Sunday will tell the tale."
You'll get a victory v Tyrone handy enough I'd say.

The boys that have left the Tyrone panel could probably beat Tyrone these days.

Hasn't been a happy camp for a long time.

Another great thing about yesterdays win was the performance of young Mc colgan from muff and o donnell from cardonagh. Two lads who play junior football. Well done lads.

Worth noting that it's the first time Donegal have managed a victory over Kerry or Dublin since mcguinness was at the helm. I don't think anyone is under any illusion that there are going to be tough tests ahead, but I don't buy in to the whole idea that Kerry were short, so were Donegal.

Whatever the grumblings of discontent that are coming out of the Tyrone camp, I don't think they'll be rolling over to have their tummies tickled by Donegal or anyone else when playing at home in Omagh.

lucky?? It's not luck... it's called accuracy, landing the ball exactly where he means to land it

Class keeper, can get serious distance in the kickouts.

Some disingenuous remarks from Jack O'Connor after the game, his team put in a poor last 40 minutes, and relinquished a 6 point lead, that's why they finished second best on the day. Complaining about the conditions too, doesn't remember last February in Killarney, worst day I was ever at a game anywhere!!...... maybe doesn't remember because Kerry won that day, deservedly I might add.

Donegal handed Kerry 1 3 in the first half how do you call that tight and organised

tá an ceart agat Rory, McColgan was brilliant and I've loved Conor O'Donnell since he came into the panel, he has a real go and isn't afraid to take an attack on his own shoulders.

was great to hear that roar from the crowd when we'd kick a score or win a kickout in a ding dong 2nd half. look it was winter football at times in rotten conditions for both sides kicking things away and being very sloppy, but I'll take that all day long in the summer months as well if the boys empty themselves and leave it all on the pitch like they did yesterday.

yes there was sloppiness but there was some seriously good kicking considering the conditions going on but I was most impressed with the bit of hard-nosed mentality. It'd be very easy to just throw in the towel 6 points down to Kerry at home on a rotten day when the atmosphere around the county hasn't been great as Paddy Carr mentioned himself in the post-match. Especially when they gave up such a soft goal, you'd not be too harsh on a young inexperienced team just throwing the hands up and the game getting away from them. But they battled really really hard. Seriously impressed with that and regardless of who was missing for both sides, that sort of battle and mettle is hard-earned on the intercounty scene so it should stand to them when they're faced with similar situations in the future.

Real touch of class from Paddy Carr mentioning Creeslough in the post-match as well. There's no doubt he is passionate about Donegal and it's great to see it.

Fantastic result for Paddy Carr and the lads. Obviously Kerry weren't at full strength but neither were we. There were so many positives to take from the game. At one stage Kerry were six ahead and I was worried that the game would get away from us. But full credit to the lads for digging in and clawing their way back into it. For a relatively inexperienced team this was very encouraging. At the end of the day, it was only two points earned and there is lots of football ahead, but any day you beat the All Ireland champions should be enjoyed.

Other positives for me

- new lads showing zero fear. McColgan, McGroddy, Curran were all solid and young McGlynn firing over a point with his first involvement. Super stuff.
- Stephen McMenamin at #6. Interesting. Played there at minor. Centre half back has been a problem area for a while. Hopefully he can stay injury free now.
- O'Baoíll, Brennan and O'Donnell led by example. Need more of this.
- Paddy McBrearty. Quiet game but still comes up with the goods at the end. Loved his interview afterwards when TG4 suggested the result came out of the blue. Paddy shot back, "Was it? Not to us!". That's the kind of positive talk you'd want from your captain. Bulaí fir a Phádraig!
- Patton - might he be the man to take over the right-footed long distance free kicks and 45's now that Murphy has departed? Obviously his kickouts are still phenomenal too.

One swallow doesn't make a summer. We need to back it up now this Sunday in Omagh. Tyrone look to be in disarray. It's always nice beating them any time but if we can pick up another 2 points it edges us closer to safety and perhaps sows further seeds of doubt within the Tyrone ranks.

on Patton, I've never really trusted him with the 45s/long range frees. He has taken one or two in the past in a hail mary sort of situation and he never seems to strike them as well as his kickouts. But there's no doubt he has the ability to do it

Apart from that 20 minute purple patch, the Donegal backs were tight and organised. McCole had Killian Spillane in his pocket and Tony Brosnan didn't get any time or space on ball.

Great display by young lads looked like we going score each time we went forward real intent and good intensity in tackle pressured kerry when got into our half. Haven't heard anything regarding oran mc ferry guessing he's also due to return?? Is the talk true regarding mcguinness taking up role with Down? Thought it was strange taking up role with another ulster team.

Yeah I get ya, but as you say they were sort of unusual circumstances in the past when he hit them. But if there was a conscious decision taken that he was to be the man hitting them from now on, there's no doubt he has the technique for it. Plenty of practice and a bit of confidence could leave us with a very potent weapon. Opposition teams would fear making tactical fouls anywhere inside in their own half.

Hi CCFabu: Your own club man would need to step up and be counted. No prisoners will be taken in Omagh next Sunday.
