I maybe read it more like he reached out and Dec/Jan can be busy time with final exams and/or assignments and gave player bit of space to get that done without pulling at him to travel home Jan for training and review at start of league to travel back for games and train. I think Mogan will get gradually back in course of league as we'll need him

It was said a long time ago that Mogan would not be available for the early part of the campaign and that was probably accepted by management.I suspect what is happening now is that with a number of players being unavailable they might be trying to get him involved a bit earlier.I would say it is as simple as that.I would be loathe to dish out too much criticism at this stage.

As an outsider looking in things look very poor. This interview was pretty cringe as well. The language he uses is a bit odd as well. Seems like a lot of waffle. It's almost February and he seems to be unsure who is involved. This has a 1 year at best management term written all over it. TheFlaker (Mayo) - Posts: 7464 - 26/01/2023 14:35:06 2454411 Link 0 |

Or maybe like most top managers he's keeping his cards close to his chest and revealing as little as possible in interviews

I know a lot of people in the Hills, some close enough to the playing group, I think that is wishful thinking on your behalf. Communication has been dreadful from day 1.

I really hope you're right but anything I've heard from people close enough to the know suggests otherwise.

What was so wrong about Carr's interview. He mentioned the boys that were not commiting ,he talked about the boys that were in rehab and that there was going to be late decissions on a few players.Managers never go in to the nature of injuries. What is the problem?I fear there is an agenda among a certain cohort to undermine the regime.Maybe there are those that would want him to fail.To use a well worn phrase on this forum I hope I am wrong. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 913 - 28/01/2023 11:55:21 2454687 Link 2 |
Well we have to give the man a chance at least, he deserves that, not going to be easy with the changes in personnel, even our strongest team in recent years always looked a bit rudderless without Murphy to steady them. The other thing is though that this is the time for boys to step up and become men, Murphy and McGee are too massive figures gone from the dressing room, you fellas could be right and this could well be a disaster of a season but we will have to give this time and see what Paddy Carr can make of the hand he's been dealt, no matter who the new manager was this was always going to be a tough season with Michael gone; Some very tough games ahead in div 1 and the opposition will see us as one of the teams they are most likely to take points off, no getting around it we are not the team we were a few years ago, beat Kerry tomorrow and it might start changing a few opinions though. We have to give Paddy Carr a chance, and get behind him. He went for the job a few times for the right reasons, not for money or to further his career, but out of a genuine love for Donegal. I heard he was guest at Fanad Gaels dinner dance recently and gave a very good speech about his connection to to this county and how much it means to him. greenfan (Donegal) - Posts: 230 - 28/01/2023 14:42:11 2454739 Link 0 |
I don't think it's an anti Paddy Carr thing. I think it's the whole debacle from the second Rory Kavanagh pulled out. The whole thing was rushed and has been a disaster after that. I think Paddy Carr will bear the brunt of it if Donegal don't deliver this year....which is wrong. The county board (most of whom are gone now) has set Donegal up to fail this year. I hope I am wrong.

It would be nothing new if we struggled in the league. We usually "stay up" or "go down" on the last day.We were relegated under McGuinness.Bonner was relegated in his first year 2018 and in 2019 div 2 we lost to Fermanagh and Tipperary but we won the Ulster Title in those 2 years. It would definitely be desirable to stay up with the new system in operation but Carr and his team will ultimately be judged on how they perform in the group stages of the Championship.I wouldn't be overly concerned about the Ulster Champioship either. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 913 - 28/01/2023 17:28:15 2454776 Link 0 |
The league for the next few years is going to be funny due to it being linked to Sam Maguire. It will negativly affect Ulster teams as its the hardest province to get to a final.... Making league more important to Ulster counties KerrymanStuckInDonegal (Kerry) - Posts: 222 - 28/01/2023 18:14:20 2454784 Link 0 |

I see Steven Poacher on Twitter claiming that McGuinness has been added to the Down management team. If true, it's a devastating development. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 377 - 29/01/2023 08:24:56 2454841 Link 0 |
I will give Paddy Carr my full support, I really hope it works out. But the now departed County Board didn't want Kavanagh, and they dragged their feet with his appointment. They were very swift to include O'Rourke when the opportunity arose. He appears to have been high up in their priorities from the start, which is incredible considering every single viewpoint I have heard from his previous employers. Remember that Roscommon had him all but announced (along with Karl Lacey) before withdrawing the offer. So, I agree fully with the perceptive Kerryman in our midst.
