Athlone and Mullingar are two of the biggest towns in Ireland that Longford don't have. Lomans/Downs now and Garrycadtle in the past are much stronger than most teams. But most teams in Westmeath no better than the Longford teams. My own club in senior b have been hammered by a couple of Longford teams in challenges. You have to go back to 2008 for a rural club in castle day won the Flanagan cup. Shamrocks and Downs have one apiece whilst lomans and garrycastle won all the rest. So let's not cod ourselves. Clubs in north Longford like dromard , Colmcille , Killoe , Clonguish, Abbeylara , Mullinalaghta all rural sides far ahead of our similar sized clubs in Westmeath. Look I probably shouldn't be talking about Westmeath. Just think there are too many auld fellas playing in Longford, I think Frankie Dolan was right. With Joyce and his management team gone in Galway, does it now put Mickey Graham into the frame for the Longford job? He has been approached previously and I think would like to stay involved in inter county set-ups Maybe his style is more suited to old rules, but I think he'd be a good fit with a good backroom team around him and he'd have a good network for that rover08 (Longford) - Posts: 450 - 05/09/2026 07:36:00 2692794 Link
