100% all you have to do is watch Kill oe in 2023 against Lomans. Easiest match Lomans ever had in Leinster.

I think personally the towns in Westmeath skew it in our favour. Athlone and Mullingar are two of the biggest towns in Ireland that Longford don't have. Lomans/Downs now and Garrycadtle in the past are much stronger than most teams. But most teams in Westmeath no better than the Longford teams. My own club in senior b have been hammered by a couple of Longford teams in challenges. You have to go back to 2008 for a rural club in castle day won the Flanagan cup. Shamrocks and Downs have one apiece whilst lomans and garrycastle won all the rest. So let's not cod ourselves. Clubs in north Longford like dromard , Colmcille , Killoe , Clonguish, Abbeylara , Mullinalaghta all rural sides far ahead of our similar sized clubs in Westmeath. Look at tang / tyresllspass in a relegation scrap they're no better than Rathcline or Carrick .

That's fair enough but I would say Mostrim wouldn't get near an intermediate semi final here. Look I probably shouldn't be talking about Westmeath. Just think there are too many auld fellas playing in Longford, I think Frankie Dolan was right.

With Joyce and his management team gone in Galway, does it now put Mickey Graham into the frame for the Longford job? He has been approached previously and I think would like to stay involved in inter county set-ups
Maybe his style is more suited to old rules, but I think he'd be a good fit with a good backroom team around him and he'd have a good network for that

Congrats to Slashers today on winning the first back to back Longford Hurling Championships since Wolfe Tones in 2000 & 2001. 3 months before the championship started everyone knew it was going to be a Slashers Tones final. I think the aim of the county board should be of course to keep those 2 progressing, but put more emphasis on attracting young players to step up to senior grade for Clonguish and prevent hurling from dying in their club. Also I see Dromard, Shannon Gaels (Rathcline) and Kenagh all have teams competing in the U12 mini league. I think the county board should 100% try their best to make sure that those 3 progress into an u14 team, then u16, then minor then eventually a senior team. I mean wouldn't it just be spectacular in roughly 15 years time to have a 6 team Longford Hurling Championship

If structures were correct in Longford football Mostrim wouldn't be near an intermediate semi final in Longford either

That back to back in 2000 & 2001 was Slashers, not Wolfe Tones. All competition from U14 upward in Longford is just the trio of Slashers, Wolfe Tones and Clonguish along with Carrick from Leitrim. Under 12 has a few more with Shannon Gaels, Dromard, Kenagh and Mullahoran as well. Kenagh was in the U14 final back in 2022 but have not featured at that grade since. Dromard played at U14 last year, but not this year. So it's very up and down with new teams coming on board and then drifting away. It is a long road from where we are now to any of these GoGames and national school initiatives yielding new teams at Juvenile or Minor or above. Unless the investment remains consistently high (financial and time), it just won't sustain anywhere new. A quarter of a century with all sorts of revival efforts and we still only have 3 senior clubs. I hope it improves, but we shouldn't kid ourselves that the problem is solved with a few starter kits at GoGames grades.

Anyone know why the county final was played 2 whole months before the winners first game in Leinster club?

Clonguish v Ardagh Moydow: Clonguish to win by 15+
Abbeylara v Longford Slashers: Abbey by 6+
Killoe v Dromard: Killoe by 3+
Granard v Colmcille: Colmcille by 2+
I think it will be relatively straightforward for Clonguish and Abbeylara, other two games very hard to call and could see them going either way.

15+ is crazy for Clonguish there has been very hammerings in knockout stages of championship in a long time, they should win but I'd be shocked if it is more than 6/7

I agree with that prediction. Ardagh/Moydow have done very well to get as far as they have so far and have remained competitive in most games, but I just feel that the difference in class will show in a knockout game in Pearse Park. Would be surprised if Clonguish don't win by at least 10.

I expect Clonguish to win by 15+ also. Ardagh Moydow have done brilliantly to reach the quarter final. However their big weakness is their backline with a couple of weak spots, not sure how they will fair in pearse park against the Clonguish forwards with no where to hide.
I watched them in the last game against Rathcline when Rathcline had nothing to play for and although they came back to salavage a draw, they had only scored 1TPF in the first half for a breech and Rathcline have been the worst team in the championship. That performance makes me worried for them against Clonguish who in fairness know how to keep the throttle down against weaker teams and are able to rack up big scorelines,
What is refreshing about Ardagh Moydow though is their willingness to constantly shoot, and have 4/5 lads able to kick 2 pointers and missing does not phase them. This is the reason they have surprised everyone.
They caught Mullinaghta on the hop when Mullinaghta decided to set up their defence on the edge of the arc and allowed A/M have the ball at their will outside it and never pushed out or put on any pressure on them, until before they knew it 17 minutes in Ardagh had registered 6 2 pointers!!
Killian Farrell returning for A/M will be a big help, he came on and scored 2 difficult frees at key stages against Rathcline to bring them back into game.
Jamie Connor is an interesting player with a boot that not many players in the county possess, if he improves on his conversion rate I am sure he will be very close to the u20 team next year and could be a vital weapon able to kick scores from the deck from 55/60 yards.

But here is hoping A/M will be very competitive and stay within 10!! Clonguish will not want an easy ride going into a semi final.

It has been finally good to see during this championship that the younger generation of players in Longford are finally stepping up and having a big impact on their club teams - hopefully this can be a positive step for our senior and u20 county teams this year.
Too many years recent gone by it has been the players in the 30+ bracket who have been the standouts.

No disrespect intended towards Ardagh Moydow at all, they have had an unbelievable year, they have broken what has been a consistent trend of intermediate teams yoyoing from Senior straight back down to intermediate. And if they do spring another shock this weekend I will be straight on here Monday morning with my hands up.
I just cannot see their game with Clonguish being close at all, I feel the championship properly begins this weekend in Longford and Clonguish won't hold back. Think they will be 7 or 8 ahead at half time, forcing Ardagh Moydow to just go for it and leave gaps.
