Ah grand, didn't know he was in contention but makes sense. Good intercounty experience with Westmeath, Offaly and Sligo and has done well at club level too.

well done killoe and mullinalaghta on getting through to yet another final. looks to have been great excitement in killoe with it coming down to penalties, cruel on colmcille to loose it that way.
hopefully we can get some white smoke on a manager this week. training is scheduled to go back in a couple of weeks! i know our players keep themselves in good shape all year round but its still not good preparation

He's done best at club level it suits him best. I'm surprised he wants to jump back into inter County management.

It's Billy O Loughlin anyway. Hard to know what to make of the appointment. Inexperienced manager and backroom team.

RTE reporting Laois' Billy O'Loughlin is the new Longford manager?

Anyone see that coming?

Laois's Billy O'Loughlin put forward as next senior football manaager - didn't see that coming !
Tahen from RTE.IE:

O'Loughlin has assembled an impressive backroom team with Cavan's Michael Hannon in as coach and handball icon Paul Brady serving as performance coach.
Former Mayo footballer Aidan Kilcoyne is also included in the set up, with Daniel Doherty in as strength and conditioning coach.
Ryan McKittrick and Ian Mulligan are also in the management set-up while O'Loughlin will also appoint two Longford based selectors to join him.

Not much really. Managed Laois u20's to a Leinster Final a couple of years ago where they were well beaten by Dublin but was turfed out the following year. Was over Sarsfields in Kildare the year after they won Kildare championship but did nothing of note there. A very underwhelming appointment really and I would guess many in Laois are surprised with this appointment

In fairness a backroom team as impressive as Dublin (in quantity anyhow) O'Loughlin must have some budget. What are the targets set on him.
Retain D3 status?
Performance against Westmeath in championship or even qualify for semi final?
A decent run in Tailtain Cup?

I don't see anyone there that impresses me. If you look them up then you'll see there is a lack of experience. He didn't get the job based on his experience or success. He didn't get it based on the backroom teams success or experience.

I'm not sure how this man got the job. Was there anyone else actually interviewed? Could it have been the case that no one else was interviewed? If it was the case then I guess it explains how he got it but questions would have to be asked why he was the only person interviewed.

He has one. I believe Flanagan was the only other candidate interviewed & he just had one lad with him (same lad he has with him in Pearses).
