I see Joe O'Brien not in the Longford hurling squad yesterday. He must finally have retired. Fair play to the amount of service he has given the county hurlers, he surely must go down as the best hurler ever to wear the Longford jersey. Hopefully there is a few younger hurlers now to come in and drive it on for the next few years.

Where do u start with that!!??
Truely awful awful stuff we are rock bottom. That second half was the most gutless heartless longford performance i have ever seen. This year will be a good one if we avoid division 4!!!

Disaster of a result, very hard to see us staying up now. This result really sets us back, Longford needs a total rebuild. The thing is I don't think there are any better players out there which is the worrying thing. We could really do with trying out a new keeper and I'm afraid Mickey Quinn is well past his best.

If we are going down we should go down with young lads getting experience at least time now to drop quinn gallagher rogers and might get an impact from of the bench. why are we bringing on a man closer to
40 then 30 makes no sense!!

I've always kept a close eye on Longford and the game today was quite literally baffling. I marked Rian Brady, Robbie Smith, James McGivney, Peter Foy, Peter Lynn all on the bench! From a Westmeath and Lomans point of view, Foy especially, he needs to get out of there if he can't get more than 5 minutes game time with that Longford Team. He was in the top 3 best defenders in the Westmeath Championship. A game made for him
Against players he plays against week in and week out. James McGivney and smith cannot even get a run, at all? Your Gary Rogers, Ryan Moffit, Kealin Magann, Mickey Quinn, they were not at the races and the 5 subs I mentioned above need to be played. And fast. Don't like to see our neighbors beaten like that especially when it could have been avoided with the squad available. Best of luck for the rest of the year! Hope you can turn it around.

What an absolute embarrassment to the county and their clubs. All I can say is, thank god we only had one representing us. With him been the goalkeeper he cannot be blamed for that performance. If you have nothing in front of you, what are you meant to do? The County team needs to be disbanded at this point. 2 hammering and we haven't even played the good teams yet!

Joe retired from the county this year all right. Easily the best hurler ever from this county not just skill wise but his dedication to the game was something else especially when you consider he is an excellent footballer and what he could have achieved had he focused solely on that.

The less said about the Westmeath match the better

He kicked at least three kickouts straight to Westmeath men in the first half alone and was at fault for the second goal.

Absolutely no movement from defenders to offer up a bit of space for him to kick into. An absolute disgrace.

Lol The whole lot of them could of been taken off in the second half. Reynolds disappeared in the second half as well as the rest of them

It was as bad as I have ever seen today.

If the majority of that team starts the next day then the good players we have on the line will be asking themselves serious questions, particularly the back-up keepers. If we don't give another keeper a chance now then we are as well not to have back-up keepers in the squad.

Mickey Quinn has had a string of ineffective games. I have never seen him be so average in so many games and it comes down to one thing, the position they are asking him to play. Wing-forward is not the position for him. That was clear in the O'Byrne Cup and maybe winning the cup glossed over that. As for the idea of throwing him into the full-forward line for spells, if I see that again then I'll leave the ground immediately. How many times has something not to work for the penny to drop that it doesn't work?

Maybe its the player not the position he has been tried all over the pitch except the goals and hasnt worked, our aiden o shea! Maybe theres a new position to try in the goals!!

We have never given a back keeper a chance in the last 20 to 30 years. The last time I remember competition was between Tommy Farrell and Brian Greene. Since then, Gavin Tonra was no. 1 followed by Damien Sheridan and now Paddy. No competition for the position. Been honest, I think Paddy should of lost the no. 1 spot about 3 years ago.

He probably improve things by going in goals and I'm sure he'd make a better keeper than he does a full-forward.

After a night to sleep on and reflect, I take back what I said about the players. What I said was heat of the moment and bore out of frustration. We have to remember, these are amateur lads who give up their free time to represent our county. It's not as if they deliberately went out to get hammered yesterday. They burst their b@lls a few nights a week when they could be at home with their feet up watching football on the TV or whatever. I want to apologise to the squad on what I said.

Joe must be up there with highest scorers ever for Longford in hurling. I hope the county honours him at some point for almost 20 years of county commitment. A well deserved retirement.
