cant believe the "anti Limerick" agenda in recent times...Kilkenny were destroying teams and as far as I some are concerned destroyed hurling with hammerings and sneaky pushing of helmets and chops and whathave you and we were all fed the line "hurling on the edge" and some even in my own county who Kilkenny obliterated by 30 points on occasions wore Kilkenny jerseys if you dont mind..Limerick after so much underage success in last 20 years, after a famine of substantial proportions from 1973 until last few years (1994 and 1996 and a few League final wins in 1980s and 1990's etc. discounted) and are a modest county and seem exceptionally professsional in an amateur game, yet I hear some quarters saying "oh Hegarty is dirty" and what have you...one sending off (and correctly) for retaliating after being frontally charged when the play was stopped anyway...Diarmuid Byrnes, Kyle Hayes, Gillane, they are queing up now to knock Limireck..Henry Shefflin and Richie Hogan and Tommy Walsh and a few more were "some of the best hurlers ever"...do a bit of research maybe...Limerick are not a dirty team by any standard...I think the ould green eyed monster is at play..I would love to see Waterford win this year, but if not Limerick again...they were down too long and suffered some crushings and replay losses etc..

I think you've taken a wrong turn on the way to the Limerick forum. Nice to have you visit, hope all is well but you need to go down to the end of the road and take a right and follow that road for about 150km and that's you. I've found that Birr is a nice place to stop for a cup of tae on the way.

Sad thing is you could probably pick a team of Longford players currently not on the panel that would comfortably beat the current team!

Can you list all these players not on the panel who would beat the current team?

the rest of the mullinlaghta and killoe lads not on the panel with robbie smith, colm smyth, kevin diffley and now ross mcnerney would give it a good go. but there is no point complaining lads have no obligation to be there and this isnt new or unique to longford. didnt denis connerton have the same issue a few years ago in the national media. playing county is like another full time job.
what are our thoughts for westmeath? ill be happy to avoid a trouncing. did quinn appeal?

gary rogers kevin diffley barry mckeon

daniel mimnagh james mcgivney larry moran
robbie smith ross mcnerney rian brady

is overall a stronger fifteen then the fermanagh match. you cant force young men to play when they have other things in their lives

What's the dislike for Darragh Doherty to get a start? Dropped again for Fermanagh game. He is the only forward with some form

As you say, can't force guys to play if they have other priorities, and that is especially true for the 20-somethings nowadays who have steeper hills to climb on major life milestones than prior generations. When you are plodding along for 7 years in the same division, and getting pasted in Leinster time and again, incentive is a challenge. Hopefully the Tailteann Cup gives a bit of incentive where none exists today (or has existed for generations) in Championship at least. I don't think the current management are responsible for most of those guys not being there (I know you are not suggesting that either btw).

Kevin Diffley is part of the Longford extended squad.

It's a relagation battle for sure. They'll be hard pushed to pick up two wins

Great to have Mickey Quinn back today. Was definitely worth the appeal. Paddy Collum pulled off a great save there.

Credit where it is due, really good performance today. It was a bonus that it was the only game this year I didn't come home from cold and wet!!

Mikey Quinn was immense today but the whole team played well.

We should be ok to avoid relegation now but should never have had to worry about it.

It backs up my point at the start of the year that this is a very weak division 3 this year.

There's a couple of things on this. My initial point was that for Longford to progress, bearing in mind the player population we have then we need at least 95% of the best players in the county willing to be involved. No one can be forced to be involved of course but the expectation that Longford are going to make significant progress with so many good footballers opting out is a bit of a pipe dream. While the manager can't be blamed for lads no going in I think when a complete unknown gets the role it's easier for players to make the choice not to be involved. I do wonder if the likes of a Micky Harte was appointed the Longford manager instead of the Louth manager would more players be interested?

fantastic result! never saw that one coming but so proud leaving mullingar yesterday i thought the team was brilliant. quinn outstanding as said above, the best ive seen in a longford jersey from him in a while, played a captains part. thought hagan and gallagher were our men of the match. where would we be without gallagher. will go down as an all time longford great. that said we were lucky too, had they scored the penalty it could have been different. both sides missed a bit. hopefully that is breathing room now to stay up

Quinn has been the most consistent player in longford for the last 2/3 years

Great (& rare) day for us Longford supporters! Heard "we always rise to bate Weatmeath" out on the pitch afterwards. Quinn's reprieve & Collum's penalty save the main factors but most of the players played their part.

are you leitrim or longford? how many games do you go to? your entitled to your opinion of course but i cant see how anyone who has attended the majority of longford games in recent years could say anyone has come close to darren gallagher. thats not a criticism of anyone else, just the level gallagher has been at has been simply superb
