Wouldn't be surprised.

In the interest of Longford football can we have some selectors from Longford please. As Del boy would say "you know it makes sense"

Yea a brother of Brendan Gilmore that lives in Galway, I'd love to know if he actually knows any players or has been at a club match. By the sounds of it the current set-up is not exactly cutting in, so any wonder players won't stay in or push to play for Longford . It needs to be localised again and be a few people involved from 3r4 clubs to talk to lads and get the attraction back. Also u20 and senior should be working together, massive divide seemingly with NO communication

That would be Cosmos Gilmore if true. He was selector for Galway under 20s when they won the All Ireland in 2020. He was also manager of the Belgium Ladies GAA team in 2022 and I think last year as well!

Saw the longford squad on the leader this morning, looks like it could be a very tough year going on that.

From the Senior semi-final of Clonguish and Dromard there is the grand total of 1 player from those two teams.
That is shocking!!!
Paddy Christie seems to be doing a lot of damage to the Longford county team.
3 lads from Killashee, 2 from Drumlish and even 1 lad from the mighty Ballymahon!!!
Longford are lucky there is no relegation from Division 4.

Well Christie did go with a full strength team last year for the O'Byrne Cup and that backfired!
Maybe he's decided to go with the opposite and field a team that would struggle to beat Killoe and see how it goes!!
I cannot see him lasting to the championship if this is the squad for the league.
I'm assuming its just for the O'Byrne Cup and we will have some players called up who might be somewhat up to standard to be competitive in Division 4.

While on paper its not the strongest panel we probably have available , but its the best chance to see what they actually have at their disposal. We went all in last year, winning the OBC and falling apart then from the league onwards so theres no point reading into the squad listed for a pre season competition as no doubt there will be plenty of bigger names to come in before the league and championship.

Also, its quite a disrespectful take to have, slating clubs like Kilashee, Drumlish and Ballymahon for having lads on a county panel. Just because the clubs aren't performing well, doesn't mean they don't have players worthy of a look and with the small player pick we do have , best to see can anyone new be found that might add something to a squad.

Squad breakdown is:

4 Killoe
4 Sean Connollys
3 Granard
3 Killashee
2 Colmcille
2 Mullinalaghta
2 Rathcline
2 Fr Manning Gaels
1 Carrickedmond
1 Dromard
1 Ardagh Moydow
1 Ballymahon

No Clonguish contingent, which seems odd.
Squad has 15 from Senior, 11 from Intermediate.
Includes 11 of the squad that ended the year vs Down last year.

O'Byrne Cup is for experimenting, so lets see what PC knows that we don't. I'm happy enough that he messes around and try things now to get a settled squad for the league rather than trying to go after a cup that isn't important this year. Might be a few good performers emerging from Sigerson that join the setup too. Have to try new things this year or we will be stuck at the bottom for a while.

I presume the most of this year's clonguish team are on the u20 panel. I'd like to know who else is in there at the moment or is this nearly the complement of what they are working with? Joe hagan is sigerson tied and I presume Quinn is back, Andrew Farrell was playing rugby but someone said he was also gone back.
No disrespect to intermediate clubs or players as we have some great individuals in Mcgann, Reynolds brothers and Farrell but generally the standard of club football is poor compared to our neighbours in cavan, Westmeath, roscommon even leitrim. We need the best 3r4 players from the teams in last 8 senior championship in the squad plus the extras. Only 2 Mullinaghta, 2 Colmcille, No Abbey, No clonguish, No slashers, 2 Dromard and 2 rathcline.. Who's making the contact with players or deciding who goes in when nobody local driving the connection between club and county.? Will Christie just be left there to let it crumble? Its not that long ago that we were competitve in 3r4 u21 leinster championships

It seems like a very strange breakdown of clubs alright and is the opposite of what we done last year but the OB cup is to find new players that can cut it at county level so lets give them a chance!

times are changing when we have no players from Slashers, Clonguish, Abbey and 4 from Connollys and 3 from Kilashee!

Anyways lets see how tonight goes first.

I heard that Clonguish told their players not to play senior for Longford if called up as they will not be competitive in the league and they are better off staying with the club. 3 players were called up and turned them down.....and they were not the under 20 players.

That's nonsense. We had 3 players who were asked in.
One lad turned them down as he is at the tail end of his career and has a young family and could not commit.
The other lad turned them down as he only cemented his place in the senior team this year and wants to spend another full year with the club and is only 20.
The third lad was a non starter from the beginning as he is off travelling and will not be around for the league.
Clonguish never told any of their players to not play for the county.
We have never done that before nor will we do it in the future.

Its trolling from a troll lots of great players over the years from weak clubs. One off the best roscommon had for years was david keenan from the might of tarmonbarry!!

Rip Sean Donnelly. From all accounts he was not only one of Longfords greatest ever players but also one of the best in Ireland at his peak. I was lucky enough to go to St. Mels College and he taught me for one year. An absolute gentleman he was. I would have loved to have seen him play. Deepest condolences to his family
