When does our proper club league start this year?? leitrim4sam (Leitrim) - Posts: 674 - 29/04/2024 17:25:55 2541576 Link 0 |
3 weeks time I believe. We probably have less teams per division that other counties so we can/should run it off faster. It is probably to allow them to prepare for the TC without distractions or the risk of getting injured playing club. I believe that a county player not getting their game can go back and play for their club now for Spring League/ league proper unless they get a runout in the TC. All U20s should now be available for their club bar the ones on both county panels gaelsboy (Leitrim) - Posts: 584 - 29/04/2024 17:54:26 2541588 Link 0 |
I think we have a good league system tbh. I see some in Longford forum calling for their system to be changed to ours. "Proper club league" starts in three weeks time.

We can't risk jeopardising our tilt at the tailteann Cup!

That system of wrapping our county "stars" in cotton wool has been highly successful over the last 20 years so why change a winning formula? They definitely don't need match practice or any distractions???? They'll be like well tuned engines and it's all part of the plan to ensure that we peak at the right time. If it ain't broken and all that!! ThePowerhouse (Leitrim) - Posts: 146 - 30/04/2024 08:59:45 2541686 Link 0 |
Tailteann Cup draw, Group 1: Tacaí Liatroma (Leitrim) - Posts: 1126 - 30/04/2024 15:09:20 2541838 Link 0 |
Could have been a lot worse... Group 2-4 could throw up some suprises. Goes without saying, getting out of the group is expected so I hope there's been lots of hard training over the last few weeks. Of course Longford will be saying the same but if that's not the aim we might as well give up. Can't see us going any further in fairness.

After the Laois and Sligo game I wouldn't have been confident no matter who we got. Hopefully they have used the time off to work on things. Should beat Waterford at home. Longford away, they have had the upper hand over us as long as I can remember. We certainly owe them one. Kildare have been terrible this year it will be interesting to see how they approach the Tailteann Cup. 3rdmidfielder (Australia) - Posts: 356 - 30/04/2024 16:07:44 2541926 Link 0 |
Couldn't have hoped for any better. Pot 1 Kildare, Sligo, Fermanagh, Down - Kildare definitely the best we could've got. They will have no interest in the Tailteann Cup and are at a seriously low ebb at the moment. Pot 2 Leitrim, Antrim, Laois, Offaly - Ourselves Pot 3 Longford, Wexford, Wicklow, Limerick - Longford will be a tough game but I would sooner face them then Wexford or Wicklow. Wexford should have beaten us in Pairc Sean and Wicklow have came off a good performance against Kildare. I don't know much about this Limerick team. Pot 4 Waterford, Tipp, Carlow, London - Carlow would've been a tough game as they are probably at the same level as us. London would be one to avoid cause an away trip to London is always dangerous. We should beat Waterford comfortably. The same with Tipp. It feels the same as last year though I don't think anyone in the county has any real interest in TC. Roll on the "proper league" and championship. Leitrimforliam (Leitrim) - Posts: 326 - 30/04/2024 16:11:45 2541930 Link 1 |
If we'd have drawn London then the game would have been in Carrick. As a pot 2 team we were always going to be at home to the pot 4 team. It's a good draw all things considered. Glad we have Kildare last and it will be all to play for in Longford. That is the key game. No easy groups really. But every team in pots 1, 3 & 4 would have been hoping to draw us. We are the weakest team in that pot. juande_ramos (Leitrim) - Posts: 85 - 30/04/2024 16:24:13 2541952 Link 1 |
My own two cents. Not sure it matters who we got from Pot 1 although if Kildare don't use the Tailteann Cup as a means to kickstart themselves for the future there's something seriously wrong with them. We should definitely target that game for an upset. Based on league form, Waterford are the best (you know what I mean) Pot 4 team we could have been drawn against. With one third place team not making it, we'd need to run up a big score here. Again with Pot 2, I'm not sure what difference it would make to us who we got, it was either a team relegated from Division 3 or one of the two teams who beat us already in this year's league. We're kicking off against Waterford, so we need to do our damnedest there to win well at home before travelling to our neighbours in the second game. If we don't qualify out our group, even if we come third but end up as worst third place team, it will be a disaster. And if we do, we could really be doing with a good draw in the preliminary quarter-finals and a win there. Tacaí Liatroma (Leitrim) - Posts: 1126 - 30/04/2024 16:45:19 2541968 Link 0 |
Good post. Waterford at home and Longford away falls fine for us, Kildare it wont matter if we win the first two but agreed we should target an upset in the probable case we lose to Longford. Kildare on a low ebb and likely will not care about TC, Longford will. Get out of the group and see what happens then, a semi final be a good achievement

I vaguely remember a Connacht B hurling championship that we used throw a team into... literally throw a team into, i would doubt there was any trials or training done and i would say this is something similar, just whoever of recent years years minors are about.

A lot of the county Senior Hurling team is made up of u20 hurlers. They have entered this new competition this year in a way to grow hurling within the county and give the younger fellas more games. They have trained separately and with the senior team numerous times in preparation I believe. Winners get a day out in Croker..

We must support whatever Coach is coaching our u20 C team and lead them onwards to All-Ireland C glory. eslinchickenmaryland (Leitrim) - Posts: 274 - 03/05/2024 14:34:14 2542670 Link 1 |
if that is true then good to hear, I did not think we had an U20 team as no word about them. I dunno what they really get out of a competition that gets you to Croker by winning one game but sure you can only play the cards you are dealt

I attended the minor game this evening in Castlebar. I actually felt sorry for the Leitrim players that are asked to play that brand of football. Playing keep ball on your own 45m line and kicking the ball back to the goalkeeper almost 2 in 5 passes went back to him. tried to play damage limitation. You have senior and u20 management team trying to play attacking football and then you have this muck at minor level. How does anyone think that is developing players. If Leitrim have any cop they will run that set up this evening and at least let the team play with a bit of freedom. lugdrum (Leitrim) - Posts: 357 - 03/05/2024 21:33:15 2542721 Link 2 |
