Saying that, Caltra did have a great team a while back.

Apparently Pat Flanagan now the front runner for the county job after being a shoe in for the Longford job last week. Really don't know what to make of it all at this stage but if that's true it's the completely wrong appointment in my opinion - he has failed to make any impact in the counties he has previously managed and his football is simply not suited to the modern intercounty game (particularly at division 1 level). While Pearses did well to win a Connacht title last year, they had a helping hand from the referee against Mountbellew/Moylough and beat a very average Knockmore side who won a poor mayo championship. If we are going down this route (And can't attract any established intercounty names) I would rather someone like Don Connellan with some fresh ideas, has worked with young players in NUIG and who has no loyalties to any of the players in the current panel.

Agreed, I'd prefer Connellan ahead of Flanagan as well. Mayo manager to be announced next week. It'll be interesting if we approach some of the unsuccessful tickets whether for coaching or manager roles.

Two county titles and provincial title is not to sniffed at when you consider Pearses had never won a senior championship title before he arrived. With that in mind Flanagan would always be linked to replace Cunningham however that doesn't mean he'll be appointed.

Knockmore has won back to back Mayo titles, they are not average side matter of fact their team is filled with county standard players and the current Mayo championship is far from poor. Their manager could well become the new Mayo senior manager as well.

The fact that Knockmore team won 2 in a row is proof enough that it's a poor championship. None of their players are close to being starters for Mayo when push comes to shove (McLoughlin was a terrific player but is well past his best at this stage). None of their other county players are at the level Mayo require for what their ambitions are and Pearses beat them pulling up in the end.

Anyway back to the management situation and there have been so many names linked at this stage with no substance behind them it's getting ridiculous. I've heard Maurice Sheridan and Don Connellan being mentioned as a team also (they worked together at NUIG). I wonder are we trying to see who Mayo, Donegal appoint and see who is left after that? The club championship will be almost over at that stage. Maybe it's also a case of potential management teams waiting to see how these play out.

Well known in Mayo that the club championship has regressed in recent years. PP beat a poor enough Knockmore side minus a few players.
Pat Flanagan is not the answer for Roscommon and if appointed our destiny in Div 2 if not even Div 3

Replying To Steve7843:  "Predictions for this weekend.
Oran v m glaveys: one would expect oran to win this but I think glaveys will make it difficult and going to glaveys and getting a win is always tough. Having said that, glaveys absentee list is quite high and I would expect oran to shade this one.
Ros gaels v elphin: ros gaels will feel they couldve got something from their first game while elphin lost narrowly to glaveys. Both teams in need of a win and ros gaels should have a bit too much. If rumours are true about connolly being back in the country that would be a huge boost to the gaels.
Faithleachs v boyle: faithleachs will take a lot from their first game after running clann close while boyle were very impressive in beating Western gaels. This game has the potential to be a cracker with quite a lot of inter County forwards set to feature. I would expect boyle to continue their good form with a win here.
Clann v western gaels: think this one could be a banana skin for clann. Western gaels need a win and won't to leave it until their last game against faithleachs. Clann obviously missing a host of regulars and I think Western gaels might sneak this.
Strokestown v tulsk: I can't see anything other than a strokestown win here. Might be tighter than some people are expecting but I think tulsk will struggle to stay up this year. Was impressed with strokestown against brigids and they could be a dark horse in the championship.
Brigids v pearses: tough one to call but I think brigids might just be a small bit ahead of pearses at this early stage."
Glaveys indeed did make it difficult in the end for Oran but they were brutal until the black card. They did well to claw it back though.

Elphin must have given the Gaels a good game. Was Cian Connolly back?

Never said he was the answer have given reasons why he's linked.

Don't agree on your view on Mayo club football. It's one of the hardest and most competitive club championships to win, the few they were missing were also missing when they won the county title. Whoever comes out of Mayo this year will be well capable of winning Connacht and will be shorter odds to win it with the bookies than the Roscommon winner.

Can understand Roscommon supporters here not too keen on Pat Flanagan after all he was far from great when manager or Offaly,Westmeath and Sligo however one can't knock his achievements as club manager in Westmeath,Offaly,Roscommon. Belittling his success with Pearses is odd this a club than has gone through numerous manager and couldn't find a winning formula.

As for Maurice Sheridan and Don Connellan have you guys watched NUIG or Mayo U20s this year? they played more defensive and low risk football than Pat Flanagan's Pearses.

Flanagan has done a great job with Pearses but I'd prefer Sheridan/Connellan, younger managers with something to prove and trying to get up the inter county ladder just have a bit more of a dynamic appeal.

Lets call a spade a spade if all the cou ty board can get is Flanagan we will see massive drop outs from the squad. He has thrown his hat in for Longford job multiple times and nkt got it yet we are been ked ti believe County board are given him Ros job. I dont believe it. If he does get it i am one fan who wont go to games

Yesterday's results set up a very interesting clash between Western Gaels and Faithleachs in the last round. I think Faithleachs will pip them.

Tulsk done fierce well against Strokestown and restored a bit of pride after the first game.

Elphin favourites for relegation??

Took in the game in Ballyforan expected a close competitive contest got the opposite. A total stroll for Brigids with the game long won before half time. If that was Pat Flanagan's audition to become Roscommon senior manager he failed. Tactically all over the shop and he chose to play an outfield player in goal and it backfired costing Pearses at least 2-3. Now granted probably a bit of shadow boxing from Pearses seeing as they know they are into the knock out stages already but no way did they plan to ship 4-10 to 0-8 beating to their main challenger.

Brigids had all the stand out players on show. Brian Stack,Ronan Stack and Paul McGrath solid in defence, midfield totally on top and Eddie Nolan scored a fine individual goal. Robbie Dolan a real workhorse and Sugure,O'Carroll caused plenty of damage.

I don't know. They could beat Glaveys yet, who looked really poor on Friday. Seemed more a case of Oran letting them back into that game. They still have Hussey to come back so maybe they'll have enough.

Can't believe Brigids won by that much. They have some great young players. Can Strokestown cause Pearses problems based on that performance?
