Pleased with that win, had to ship the blow of losing Conor Cox midweek in training yet the Smiths and McKeon step up to deliver the scores. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4013 - 30/01/2022 17:45:18 2397251 Link 1 |
And like all badly wounded animals, you'd be doing it a favour to put it out of its misery. Hard to see any team bounce back in a week after a performance like that.

Delighted with the win today and glad to be proven wrong when I felt Cork would beat us. Roscommon were really comfortable for most of that game today. Huge performances from the Smiths, Stack and McKeon but also hugely impressed with Eoin McCormack, Richard Hughes and Dylan Ruane. Our defence was generally excellent today. Conditions were atrocious for a lot of the game but yet Donie was excellent on the free taking bar one miss. Cork couldn't handle Enda when he ran at them, what an athlete and baller he is when he hits form. The only real negative was the kickouts. I like Colm Lavin and for the most part has been very good for Ros but I think he pondered far too long today with kickouts and seemed very uncomfortable under high ball coming in to him. Just looked like a guy lacking in confidence. I feel young Carroll could end up taking the no.1 position this year yet. Otherwise delighted to be back in the hallowed ground of the Hyde to witness a great start to our league campaign. I just hope we can follow it up now in Navan next with another big win. That would set us up nicely and with the Faithleachs and Pearses lads to come back in for round 3 most likely, hopefully we can be in a position to push on for promotion back to Div 1 ComainRos (Roscommon) - Posts: 148 - 30/01/2022 19:09:12 2397273 Link 1 |
You lads recovered the following week against us after the trimming off Kerry. Bounce back ability and big reactions are plentiful over the years. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 4013 - 30/01/2022 20:14:28 2397297 Link 0 |

Ya goalkeeper is still massive problem for us. Nowhere near good enough. We worked hard today and got a good win but plenty of improvement needed for next week.

Always good to get early points on board . Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2235 - 31/01/2022 13:17:21 2397463 Link 0 |
Colm Lavin around for a number of years now and doesn't seem to have improved from U21 level. Galway, Mayo men the other options no other goalkeeper in the Roscommon club championship stood out to be included? . Goalkeeping was even a issue for St Brigids All-Ireland winning team when they brought back a 42 year old Shane Curran.

Brady is the best keeper in the county. He was training with county this year but not sure if he's still around. Goalkeeper situation needs to be sorted out

Speaking to a few around county panel he is well done the line from what is produced at training anyway. I know he scored well for Elphin last few years and adds something been able score frees and 45s but is that enough. Also a few question marks over commitment and has let himself down on occasions over the years. Carroll i believe was picked ahead of him for Sigerson? Open to correction on that. I have heard lots about Heneghan lately and lads losing the run of themselves on him but I don't think he's good enough to start for the county. Maybe in time and with a drier sod but I have not seen anything yet from him. sourmilk93 (Roscommon) - Posts: 1205 - 01/02/2022 10:48:26 2397646 Link 0 |
We have been hearing about Brady being the best around and the future number 1 for a few years now and we are still waiting for it to happen, obviously something isn't right with him for him to not have been given his chance yet.

Ya I agree but watching him for club he's miles ahead of lavin.

Brady is the 2nd choice keeper with NUIG currently behind Conor Carroll. If he was the best keeper he'd be ahead of Lavin, Carroll and O'Malley in the pecking order. There is a lot of the new Roscommon management team that make that call included a new and experienced goal keeping coach. What I have seen of Heneghan he looks like he's simliar to Finnian Ó Laoí at Galway whereby he won't trouble the scoreboard too much but will be involved in the build up, winning frees and show good work rate and when the team is in and out of possession. Unless there is a huge backlash I'd unfortunately expect a big win for Roscommon. Laois in obc wasn't a one off it would appear. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 01/02/2022 17:25:45 2397782 Link 0 |
In the last couple of days there has been criticism of three goal keepers in Roscommon, some of it based on hear-say! These are all amateur players/individuals who give up a lot of time and finance to try and represent their families/club/Roscommon, and I think that some of the criticism is unfair. Management see all these guys in club matches, Sigerson cup and training, so I am happy to let them make a call on it. Why not praise who you think should be in goal rather than run down the person you think should be a sub. (Glass half full rather than glass half empty approach might be better, and fairer on the players). letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 715 - 01/02/2022 18:56:47 2397805 Link 0 |
Meath are favourites

Meath was away to a near full strength Galway last weekend. This week have the home Navan advantage and the Rossies will likely be without the 3 Dalys, D Murray, 2 Murtaghs and C Cox.
