It might be a bit premature to make a call based on one game alone, but I think O'Flaherty has passed out Glynn for a starting spot, going by yesterday. Cathal Sweeney must be under pressure as well. Athletic and good at ball-carrying but either of the O'Neills would seem to offer more of a scoring threat, and big solid lads to boot. Rob Finnerty really needs to get his mojo back; no comparison between he and Canavan/Bradley for Tyrone yesterday. Could John Daly transition into a play-making role at no. 11?

There will always be a degree sceptisism and cynicism towards anything new., and indeed, i share with you a degree of sceptisism towards these rules. In particular it hasnt solved all the problems, is difficult to referee, leads to lots of inconsistency, confusion and debate, will be very very difficult to port to club, underage etc... However there is no arguing that it has made the games more entertaining, higher scoring, higher level of quality scores, more contested kickouts, less flapping about with consecutive lateral handpasses in defensive half. This has been a fantastic league so far. To be honest there would be no need for rule changes if everyone played football like Mayo with their swash-buckling, all action dynamic approach to the game over the last 20 years, which has led to games involving Mayo generally being much more enjoyable to watch by neutral supporters. Dublin to be fair have applied similar approach albeit a little bit more structured. But for match go-ers from other counties , I think we needed these changes. Now there is no doubt that some of the new rules need to be tweaked , or in some cases revoked. We all may have opinions on this , my personal ones being - no bringing free out to outside of arc - no 2 points for a free - throw ball instead of a free for a goalkeeper breach of 20 second "rule" But lets not throw the lovely baby that has been created while we are trying to get rid of some of the dirty bath water that came with it, anotheralias (Galway) - Posts: 973 - 03/03/2025 12:54:27 2594414 Link 1 |

Cant see PJ trying Daly at 11. O Flaherty will def start in my opinion has been our top performer in league along with Walsh. 2 big tests with Dubs and kerry which will tell alot. I am hoping finnerty has more to come after injury lay off. Agree with Sweeney does not offer enough and is too small. Especially with new rules where all kick outs are essentially all long. out to middle 3rd. improvment needed on winning primary possession and breaks but a very postiive campaign up until now. Cawley's refereeing yesterday was nowhere near Div 1 standard in my opinion and he made call after call in Tyrone's favour, gifting them 4, perhaps 5 points, and denying us 3 very solid scoring opportunities. I always say it when people talk about no 2 points for a free but if that was to come in not many defenders would allow the forward to shoot for a two point it would be a foul majority of the time & make sure they can only get 1 point off if they are to get anything. That's definitely not something that you would want to encourage. Besides, more teams will just take a leaf out of Galway book and recycle the free kick to an unmarked kicker, which is fine but I also thought people liked to see frees kicked from ground? Agree with throw ball instead of a free in for keeper "time wasting". Free in is way too harsh a punishment. Tbf I think throw ball on the 20 is still too harsh a punishment id much prefer throw ball at halfway. Re bringing ball out to arc for free it's kinda 2 competing things that are happening and it's never as simple as bringing the ball back out for a foul inside the arc. If the foul was outside the arc ie a 3 up breach on the defenders side, or if advantage was used, or fouled while kicking, you're generally allowed to bring the ball to the most advantageous spot for yourself, so even if you could have the 20 yd shot of the original foul was outside the arc, you're entitled to take the free at the arc if it got brought forward. systematic (Galway) - Posts: 133 - 03/03/2025 15:50:56 2594471 Link 0 |

Cant catch a break and is very unreliable in term s of being fit and available similar to James McL. Think it would be no harm for both of them to be left with club when back and get minutes of course over seen by PJ & physios etc. Agree with other poster O Curraoin started league well last year but by time of champo was not in 26. O Conghaile has not featured at all and with Damo hopefully fit by champo dont see them having an input. Looks like mannion & Thonpson ahead of them

You're wasting your time with the Connemara crew and Pearse Stadium. They'll back it to the last, despite its obvious shortcomings, because it suits them traffic wise. If it was in Carnmore side of the city, they'd be crying blue. PS is desperate as a venue. Never an atmosphere worth talking about. Oh my the skin is thin here I'm actually from tuam area. Did you actually read the post before typing that nonsense ?? Pointing out it was windy yesterday in TS is not an endorsement of PS. I was only saying pity more games arnt in tuam great day out yesterday. It's just a fact it was a strong wind yesterday. Joyce is the only one I heard call it a gale who I'm sure you will be calling anti tuam now. Think O'Conghaile was on the bench yesterday instead of Sam O'Neill and GBFM were saying at one point late in the match that it appeared he was about to be introduced.
