Replying To galwayman2:  "Interesting that only 4 of the match day squad from the All Ireland minor final two years ago are there - two starters and two on the bench.
You'd have thought with a team that wins the AI there would be more involved at 20s two years later.
Two of last years u20 starting team on the bench this time.
Best of luck to them anyhow.
I don't know a huge amount about a lot of the players involved."
The centre back from that minor team Trayers is on the hurling panel. He moved onto the Mayo forward that had scored heavily in the first half of the final and completely snuffed him out.
The MOTM that day Farthing has a rugby contract.
The likes of Curley from Annaghdown and Eanna Monaghan were playing colleges this year and were good.

That will be next year's U20 team, lads born in 2005 and 2006 in the main.

Anyone have any idea of when some of the lads like Shane, Damo or Cillian are expected to return?

Is Ryan Roche underage for this grade? Would have thought he would have been a certainty to be on the panel after winning u-19 club player of the year in Galway. In general, you would have thought Kilannin would have more representation on the panel having won the u19 fairly easily last year.

Also looking forward to see Colm Costello kick on this year. Could definitely be a senior intercounty corner forward.

I thought he did pretty well too given that we were getting well beaten out the field and had almost no possession into his corner. He also had a direct role in two other scores. I'd love to see him in a forward line playing off Comer with Walsh outside and the likes of McDaid and Sean Kelly raiding from deep. It's only when we have seen him playing with a decent amount of the senior players that he can be fully judged. He looks promising at this level so far. Anyone saying he isn't performing at intermediate either isn't watching games or has something against him or Ballygar, he is outstanding at intermediate level and many times teams are being set up specifically to stop him(ask any intermediate club manager)

Replying To Galwayboy64:  "That is incorrect, only one player Conor Raftery from that list got minutes in FBD league. And to my knowledge he was the only who also trained with the development panel."
Apologies. You are correct. Shows how quickly time goes. Foley, Grainger played FBD in 2023. Overall opinion from me probably remains the same. Nearly all on your list have had some sort chance with the senior team in the last 3-4 years. Not saying they can't improve with age but I think compared to a lot of recent managers plenty of players have been given chances by Joyce. If they were shooting the lights out I don't think Joyce would be slow to give them their chance.

Agree on Colm Costello. Thought he had some very good games in a very limited Dunmore team in last year's championship.

It is surprising not to see Eanna Monaghan in with the u20s. He was the outstanding forward of his age group all the way up. I understand he has had some injury issues but heard he did well for Claregalway in a senior league game at the weekend.

I'd say some of the lads involved with the All Ireland minor win two years ago are rightly focusing on the leaving cert this year. They are still underage next year to play U20.

Real pity Farthing gone to the oval ball game. Looked a right prospect from that Minor team.

Yeah I know next year is when they are in their true under 20 year but for an All Ireland winning team I'd have thought more would come through to 20s two seasons later.

Galway 2-16 Leitrim 0-13

Hard to judge on this game but probably only an ok performance. Doubtful it would be good enough to beat Mayo or Roscommon. Maybe Sligo as well. Colm Costello with 10 points. 6 from play. Galway reliant on him for scores for long spells.

Mayo and Roscommon had a draw in their game today.

Didn't look like a great performance but only first day out. As others have said, it doesn't look like they have picked their strongest team from those available and I'd say next years side will be a much better one. Costello looks good but it's a pity we won't see Monaghan playing off him.

2 players come off the bench last night who started last year, funny how a new manager sees something different. Jack McCabe didn't even get a start for the 20's last year but is part of the Senior Panel this year and was starting Sigerson games.

As discussed above Trayers & Farthing I'm sure would be in the squad if they weren't lost to Rugby & Hurling. Surprised Monaghan isn't on the panel but that might not have been Savage's decision.

There in for 3 really tough games over the next 3 games but at least their getting those games unlike previous teams.

Replying To Galwayboy64:  "A few players that come to mind that I believe should of been given a chance
Conal Gallagher
Barry McHugh (given chances before but still quality)
James Foley
Dylan Wall
Gavin Burke
Thomas Gleeson
Padriag Costello
Paul Mannion
Conor Raftery
Nathan Grainger
Dessie Conneally

Joyce definitely likes to bring in young lads with very minimal adult experience, compared to a 24 or 25 year old who plays a lot smarter. I know it may be brighter for the future to get these younger lads experience but it severely effects our current form.

Regarding Cunningham against Kilconly I was at that game and I know a lot of his scores came from frees, didn't think he scored that much all the same. Delighted to see him getting the chance as he is older, with a good bit of adult experience but just struggle to see him having impact."
Just my own opinion but of those listed I think Conal Gallagher didn't get a fair crack of the whip along the way.. For some reason Imv the management team aren't gone on him.. I expected him to feature in 22 when we needed a bit of energy in the AI Final but on he did not come.. Then last year Padraig persisted with an out of form Ian Burke to my mind when Conal would have filled more or less the same role with more energy, like he performs consistently at club

Alot of that team concentrating on leaving cert and just playing with club this year.

He plays for St Michaels. The other very exciting player from St Michaels is Ethan Forentini who looked very promising on the Johnny McGrath captained minor final losing team versus Cork in 2019. We've seen a few from that team Johnny McGrath, Cian Heron, James McLaughlin, Daniel O'Flaherty and Tomo. I personally thought Donnie O'Halleran was going to come through for goals but his clubman Kyle Gilmore is probably ahead of him now with Cortoon. The other two from that team I'd like to see get a run at the Senior team are Warren Seoige and Dylan Brady (who had an injury last year) but will probably be back for Corofin this year as I seen him togged at Sigerson games this year for UCG.

Conal Gallagher has played underage for Galway. He's a good young player for St. Michael's. Not sure if he's county senior standard, but we'll see how he develops.
The other poster is obviously referring to Owen Gallagher. I think the chances of him playing for Galway again are gone, unfortunately.
