Replying To Really:  "There is now serious athleticism in this squad. Cooke got one great turnover. He still has a few gears to go through yet. At times, he's prone to giving away possession cheaply, but once that part of his game is ironed out, will be a huge addition."
It feels like Cooke never uses those gears. Tierney steps up at times to claim big kickouts. Cooke has the height and build to take the odd kickout mark, run past men with his pace too.
But I've been disappointed with him. There's so much more in him but I don't think we've seen it. Hopefully it'll come out but I'm doubtful, I feel it's a Jason Flynn situation with the hurlers. Has the physique and talent but only stands out in the very odd game. Though I have to say Flynn did win that All Ireland with his 2 points along with Niall Burke. Would be great to see it more, like Cooke.

Would agree about Cooke, feels like we're waiting for him to take off.

Yes, an All Ireland.

I don't think winning just the league would be seen as a successful year for this squad.

Yes Cooke seems to have a laid back, laconic style and doesn't appear to be fulfilling his true potential as a footballer. He is well able to up the pace to get past opponents and take a score but tends to change his mind and passes it on instead.

Great to see one of the lesser Sam Maguire counties with an opportunity for a rare national title on Sunday. Will give either of them great encouragement and hope for the year of making ground in championship.

The Tailtean Cup is the new home for lesser Sam Maguire counties. Great to have a place to put them indeed.

Ha ha ha after Kerry and Dublin isn't everyone LESSER? But I agree it's a refreshing thing. Galway Abu.

Lesser for sure in recent times, but we're still 3rd on the roll of honour. A very distant 3rd, but only two counties above us nonetheless.
Still 20+ years is a long time to be waiting for an All-Ireland win and pretty much double that since our last Division 1 league title.
Coming off the back of an All-Ireland final appearance last year, this is a great opportunity to build more momentum.

What do you mean "lesser Same Maguire counties"? Galway are third in the roll of honour in that regard - stick to the hurling not that Wexford are too good at that now either. You're a great man for the auld jokes! lol

I suppose we can't argue with the statement that we are one of the "lesser Sam Maguire counties".
My initial reaction was "what?", on the basis that we are third on the AI roll of honour with 9 titles and with 2 in past 25 years , as well as having won a number of minor ,U21 and club titles in the interim.
But the bottom line is that we havent one won in 22 years , and apart from last year we never really threatened to do so in that time , and 22 years is a long time , so as much as the phrase doesn't sit comfortably, we can't argue with being classified as on of the "lesser counties" in terms of Sam Maguire.
Ironically even though Mayo havent won for 72 years , the fact that they have been major players in the destination of Sam so many times recently, I would not classify them as lesser in terms of Sam Maguire

Trolling of course but still you may not be aware that Galway are third in the All Ireland senior football championship roll of honour on 9 titles, the last won in 2001.

Cooke was a great fetcher at underage level but it seems to be something that's gone out his game in recent years. He rarely even goes up for kick outs now. I think he's been pretty solid so far and was good against Kerry but I think he has more in him.

Guys, the two counties have won 2 All Irelands between them in 57 years, both Galway of course. If ye can't see what was meant by that leave it so. Its an opportunity for either of them to have something won at a national level which is extremely rare.

Sure will ye ever forget the great homecoming of the Wexford four in a row football team in 1918! Aye, twas a right riveting spectacle to be sure.

No it means an easy-going and laid back style - there is nothing wrong with that but it appears he is not fully pushing himself to the limit in games.

So Mayo are also a lesser light?
Despite being in the top 3 most years for the past decade?
I suppose the better the question is who is not a lesser light then?
Dublin, Kerry, Tyrone..... and then 30 lesser lights?
Donegal have won only 2 All-Irelands in the past 140 years so they couldn't be above Galway, right?

Shaky start to league but Galway just did enough in rest of the games without blowing anyone away. Sign of a good team. when Walsh and Comer get sharper, attack will be very good. Very impressed with defence, started with mulcahy, Eoin Kelly, then had Glynn (for a bit) McGrath Fitzgerald all come in and fit in seamlessly. Same can be said at wing back with o Flaherty, hernon, sweeney. Good depth there now and they all know the system. High ball still an issue but it was noticeable how calm the backs were with Power in goals and kickouts were brilliant in first half especially. No brainer to keep him in goals, if only for kickouts alone.

Management will have some tough decisions to make, comer, finnerty, mcdaid all definites to come back into the team for championship. Maher making a very good case but for who? Tomo will likely drop out along with possibly hernon.

Think next week's game v mayo will be as close to championship bar injury.
Power
Glynn
Kelly,
Fitzgerald (physically stronger than McGrath)
Sweeney
Daly,
McHugh,
Conroy,
Maher,
Tierney,
Heaney,
Cooke,
Finnerty,
Walsh,
Tomo

(Think Mcdaid, Comer will start in championship for Tomo and Maher)

What would you call a county with 2 All Ireland's in just under 60 years? A powerhouse? What has this to do with Donegal? Although I guess in the last 60 odd years they do have the same amount of success as Galway.
