Replying To Trump2020:  "What's the story with Jack Canning? I figure he should be around 25 years old now and looked like a good prospect a few years ago. Is he not good enough, injured, or just not interested?"
He played wing back v Antrim in the Walsh cup up in Louth back in January.

Didn't hear much after that.

Not sure if he was cut from the panel or just wasn't interested, but you'd imagine he would be good enough to be on the 26 man panel.

At this stage, I'll wait for a polished performance at u20/ u21 level, before i get excited.

You'll get that on Saturday week in Tullamore.

Laois can't be up to much given that they got murdered by a Kilkenny team who were a man down for over half the game.
Unless of course this is an exceptional Kilkenny team, I suppose we won't have to wait long to find out on both counts.

Seems strange. Maybe he picked up an injury.

Isn't he focusing on rugby? Apparently, he's very good at that game, and more power to him.

Yeah it's his choice I agree. Fair play to him.

Game was over at half time in Portlaoise with three goals in five minutes from Niland, Callanan and Morgan. Finished 4-28 to 0-11. Niland was taken off after 35 minutes but he had 1-10 scored at that stage. Campbell from Cappy at centre back looks a super player. Big chance next Friday against Kilkenny to go through to the semi final with a win.

Great win by the Galway Minors over Laois. 4-28 to 11 points. Kilkenny up next who had a big win over Antrim. Should be a great match between two loaded teams. Galway Abu.

He played Walsh Cup this year. Don't think he's playing much Rugby last few years. Went to Austrlia for a year or two. Was very good for Portumna last year in the backs and well deserved to be brought in. Wing back is probably is best position, forwards wasn't working out for him last few years. We're strong in the half back psotion so probably the hardest line in the whole galway team to make. Lacks a bit of pace and was even struggling at u21 level with pace in the forwards. Would like to see him get a go in the league next year if he keeps up his form with Portumna, very similar to Fintan at wing back actually. Good player.

More minor hero's in the making and none of them will be seen at senior intercounty level. Just like the man that's being mentioned in a few recent posts...

I'm pretty sure the law of averages alone will mean that at least 'some' of them will be 'seen at senior intercounty level'.

I'm not sure what your problem is here, what do you want them to do?

You would be hoping from a Galway perspective that more minor and then u20/1 games might increase their chances of making Senior. It must be very demotivating if their own fans are running them down though.

Yeah good player , but if his surname wasn't Canning and he wasn't from Portumna there wouldn't be any talk about him. People really do need to let go of the expectation that they have that because a fella " has the genes" he should automatically make it onto the county panel.

One would hope they would pay little or no attention to the waffling of their own fans, tbf. Supporters are all the same, they never have a clue, really

We got Darren Morrissey, Tiernan Killeen and Gavin Lee from recent minor teams. All three will be in the 26 for the championship with 2 of them probably starting. Martin McManus had a great game against Cork this year in the league. He was on that same minor team as Jack Canning. Donal O'Shea and John Cooney have played league this year as well but sure don't let facts get in the way of a post.

I take you haven't seen this year's minor team in person? Even if they dont win the All-Ireland (they will go very close), there are some excellent prospects in that squad. Aaron Niland is as good an underage player as Galway have had a long long time.

And you'd be exactly the expert supporter in that regard.

I wouldn't deny it, if i'm honest. I never claimed to know much, but in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king, as they say.

But in my defence, I'm not hogging every thread under the sun spouting ***** like some others I could mention.

Virtually every player who plays senior IC for Galway has played minor IC. Colm Callanan is the last player I can think of who played senior without playing minor. They are very rare birds indeed.

So he is spouting total nonsense, I wouldn't let it bother you.
