National Forum

Move To National Forum Only Model

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

From this morning the individual forums in all bar two counties have been retired. The majority of discussion will be in one place, through the national forum where any topics can be discussed. There has been a growing trend towards this in recent years and with all messages individually moderated, it allows us to focus our resources more efficiently.
It's a big change, but where would the GAA world be without amalgamations?

Terrible idea you have just ruined the hoganstand. I know this will not be posted but you just ruined the best part of the hoganstand where the club game from senior to junior in each county is discussed weekly by die hard supporter. DO you think a dublin gaa supporter wants to hear about the junior club championship in roscommon.

The national forum only is a step too far. This is a wonderful outlet for people that follow the intricate county championships in their own counties.

Have to say I'm disappointed by this myself. Had noticed last night that the Wexford forum was no longer working, and hoped it was just some sort of temporary blip. But evidently not.

Tarismelting22. I have to agree totally with you on this. I was shocked when I couldn't log onto the Wicklow forum. This finishes me with the Hogan Stand. I would have a passing interest in all things GAA but absolutely no interest in getting involved or even reading this other stuff. Possibly other people from the different counties could set up a forum for each county that could be interlinked to other ones. We had some great debates with people from other counties after it before an inter county match, but doing this through a national forum - no thanks.

Gonna guess that this is a good move due to lack of resources but doubt it is a good move in terms of website hits as the majority of people I know who visit the website do so for the county forums in order to discuss the club game and their own county news.

I concur totally, sad day, I've been on here the bones of ten years, discussed, argued, mourned and celebrated with my online 'friends' .

I would love to think that the decision would be reversed or at the least the most active forums reinstated.

Or has the fears and warnings of some come to fruition- have the wums won?

A daft idea. The idea of the local forum is to have the bit of craic and banter between supporters within a county.
Talk about cutting off your nose to spite its face!
Daft in the extreme.

Disgraceful, esp considering you gave posters absoultely no warning this was due to happen before the county forums were deleted sometime yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning the Kerry forum was as active as ever. Everyday there are multiple posters on there like myself posting there. In fact it is far more active then the two county forums you have left operating.

Most of the posters on the Kerry forum, like myself, have been posting on it for 8,9,10+ years. We kept it alive and going all that time. The fact you couldn't even have the decency to tell us in advance and let us say goodbye to each other or try and find another home is shocking. A lot of long time posters would have developed friendships etc over the years.

I personally made the decision to leave the main forum at the start of 2021. Now the Kerry forum is gone I'll be moving on completely.

So best of luck to (most) posters on here.

This will be my last post here unless the Wexford forum returns.

We had plenty of good discussions on a variety of different topics.

I see you've retained Meath and Cavan only. Why? The Wexford forum was every bit as active as those two.

Very strange decision, not everyone in the country is interested in the local Gaa scene..ye might need to have a look at this again..

Very disappointing to say the least. Many national posters are not interested in local club stuff etc and the county forums were a place to discuss local and county issues. A poster in Fermanagh has nt much interest in a county league game in Kerry. A poor move. Also why leave a couple of County forums? Is that not discrimination?

awful idea, national forum is a waste of time, its full of idiot accounts.
The county forum were the only worthwhile forums, esp now when its just club football that on and where there was no Sh**e talk like on national forum.
Why is there only a Cavan and Meath forum still going?

I personally never went near a county forum, as I'm so paranoid about club stuff that I wouldn't even discuss it with an outsider from another club lol ... that said though, county forums are just web pages - can't see how having a website with a few more tabs on it makes any difference from an admin point of view

The Cavan forum still working, but why make exception for 1 or 2 Counties.? Some Counties like Cork or Kilkenny had little actiivity but. Roscommon, Leitrim, Monaghan, Donegal, were active enough

This is a disgraceful decision. There is nothing more enjoyable than reading up on niche players and teams within your county while having a debate or two.

Are there any alternative GAA forum websites that we could use?

Terrible idea. My involvement with the Hogan Stand is now over. The county forums were a great way of seeing local news, gossip and craic. If I wanted national news I would use the 42. Ciao.

Well said. I'll likely be gone too, might look into setting up a reservoir dubs type website for Leitrim and see I can expand it for other counties
