Ballela in Down. Small Hurling/Camogie club out in West Down primary school closed down and situated near areas not traditional GAA Low numbers underage usually amalgamation with Ballyvarley - hold their own junior / intermediate and have provided some quality hurlers for the county over the years. Deciding smallest club can be difficult. The number of townlands alone will not decide as townlands may be large area or large population. Maybe say a club who only have players taken from a very small school and that would normally be a rural area. Some clubs come and go, so a very small club which does not field a team may not count-maybe the question should specify ladies football, hurling, men's football, camogie and grade off. Maybe naming a very small club in a county that have won many senior championships could be more easily determined. Some of the clubs already mentioned are indeed very small with some not fielding teams (I hope only temporary)- it is a fact that some of the clubs mentioned are close to counties with the lowest number of clubs. Difficult naming small clubs close to, or in towns, as players come from outside a specified area. Judging by all the politician talk today (billions here billions there) makes me believe that rural Ireland does not exist with roads or houses not required, or is that a new way to go green!. browncows (Meath) - Posts: 2342 - 04/10/2021 21:20:25 2384436 Link
Clare Island GAA club is probably the smallest GAA club. Population 150. They play in the Islands all Ireland. Some of their players actually play in the Mayo championship with Louisberg on the mainland as they are unable to field a team. This year Lacken have been unable to field a team for club championship as recently as last weekend and are in danger of folding. Ballycomoyle is very small and close to border with Longford and Meath. Loughnavalley would probably shade it. Stuck between Ballymore, Shandonagh, Milltown and Malachys.
