Dubs V Mayo

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I see Star Donaghy has the same opinion as myself on this game, he reckons dublin will get ahead and choke the game and win by 5/6 points.

In fairness you don't need to be a Nastradamus to see what's going to happen in this game Saturday evening , Im gonna need a lot of alcohol to get through this match I think, I might invent a new drinking game or something :-)

theres too many question marks over the Mayo goalkeeper and defence to be in any ways confident.
Dublin will go for the jugular from throw in and try to put goals on Mayo.

Mayos best chance would be to to put OShea and Carr close to goals early on with someone playing off them and pull everyone else back. Go long and direct into full forward line and go extremely defensive at the back try to do what Donegal did to Mayo in 12 in the first half.

Then switch it up with Conroy and Eoin Mclaughlin coming off the bench.

Mayo need to be a lot more direct. Hand and sideways passing plays into Dubs hands. Also they have to keep their cool, and avoid yellow and red cards.

Surely, Mayo's best game plan would be to run at Dublin?

They always put up the strongest physical challenge to Dublin anyway, and clearly have even upped that intensity with the younger legs.

Lumping ball into a square tied O'Shea is meat and drink to Fitzy and Copper when on form. Besides which, how many times is an outfield player realistically going to have the time and space to make that other than an occasional random option?

That's true, the premiership is back this weekend so I might watch Norwich v Liverpool instead :-)

Again as I said earlier I just can't see Mayo winning. Would be great if they did. But knowing mayos luck be typical the year they beat dubs they'd lose to Kerry in the final.

Yeah i hope that drinking game involves you having a nice pint of washing up liquid to wash the taste of those bitter lemons from your mouth, the one thing i can safely say about Mayo is at least they've given Dublin some competition over the last decade and took they're beatings with no complaining unlike your own county who always looked for excuses, i hated when i heard Mayo being called bottlers, to come back year after year takes guts and character, they were very unlucky against Dublin on more than one occasion, i.m.o. i think Dublin by 5 or 6 !

Running game hasn't worked for Mayo when it comes to scoring goals against Dublin and they'll need goals to have any chance of winning the game.

They'll mix it up I'm sure and O'Shea will be drifting in and out and when he is in he'll occupy two men.

He doesn't need to win it cleanly for it to pay dividends.

With the players Mayo are missing it's probably irrelevant where O'Shea plays though.

I think the prospects of a close contest are all but gone, which is a pity.

Mayo have played 2 very poor div 4 teams amd a misfiring Galway, Dublin look like a weaker team than a few years ago but they are still in a different class,
Can only see an easy win for Dublin here, probably win by 5 or 6 points and play out the last 10 mins keeping ball,
or else they'll go at it flat out and win by 10 to 15 points to lay down a marker and silnce the doubters,
think Mayo are heading for the exit door rapidly here.

Mayos plan seems to run as hard and for as long as possible, this plan works against majority of team but not against Dublin. You could see in the final last year, Mayo came out flying and Dublin knew they would, so Dublin have the fitness to match Mayo and Dublin have the quality to keep possession and let Mayo tire themselves out. Dublin know well Mayo cant sustain that running game for the whole game but James Horan seems to think they can.

It was interesting in the Galway game that he kept the 2 McLoughlin's on the bench until half time, its hard to know if they were not fully fit because they were rumored to be injured or coming back from injury, or was it tactical and to bring on fast hard running players for the second half.

so they need to get the mix right of a running game and to break it up with maybe a 5minute period where they go direct and have O Shea inside but also have Mayo forwards around him and not like other years where high ball was sent in and all that was in there was O Shea with McMahon under him, O Sullivan infront of him and Cooper coming in as well and no sign of another Mayo forward.

Saying all this though is a bit wasted after Oisin Mullins injury, he is a massive loss to our defense and attack, now I don't think he played well defensively in the final last year but id be pretty confident he would have learned alot from that and be better able for O Callaghan this year.

I would not be mad about mayo people as they think they are the gaa , but I think they will win this one by 4 or 5 points .. Dublin lack energy and their subs are not near as strong as they once were .. don't do what kildare did and try to keep the score down ... get Dublin into a battle and mayo have the energy to do that... mayo forwards will also trouble the Dublin backs who are not as strong as pervious years

with O Connor out and most likely Mullen and O Hora out or if played not at full throttle , only one result a huge win for the Dubs.

Lee Keegan's goal in All_Ireland Final 2016 replay was a superb example of a goal that came from a running game.

All this chat about the Dublin "decline" needs to be taken with a shovelful of salt. You often see provincial winners struggling against weaker teams inside their province; even Kerry at their peak has had the odd close shave v Limerick etc. Dublin is bound to be just bored inside Leinster by this stage. They won't slip up here; and they will further be assisted in the final by the fact that Kerry will be at a considerable disadvantage of either having had no match at all v Tyrone, or else having played a meaningless game against a "Tyrone in name only" sort of makeshift team; whereas Dublin at least will have been given a game of it by Mayo.

So you agree with myself and Star so that dublin will win by 5/6 points with dublin choking the life out of the game.

And I only drink Harp and Bulmers, the real posh stuff no bitterness here just accepting nobody can beat dublin.

Mayo did their best in the past and I'm sure they'll do their best tomorrow but unfortunately between injuries and retirements they'll come up short again, and due to the big mess in the other semifinal between Tyrone and Kerry neither of those 2 teams will have proper preparation to even challenge the dubs.

It was a good goal but it came from a long ball into O'Shea and the point still remains, the running game has not returned enough goals against Dublin and that's why they need to mix it up a little because they will need at least two goals to have any faint hope at all.

Apart from the players Dublin have lost, I think their biggest loss is actually Jim Gavin.

What do you mean a misfiring Galway, weren't they well in control of the game at half time and Mayo looked dead and buried.

It was a change of tactics and good sideline calls which won that game for Mayo, not a "misfiring" Galway.

What sort of a ridiculous statement is that? There really is some loopers around here lately. In what way do Mayo people think they are the GAA? I'm also not sure why you think insulting the people of Mayo and making it clear you don't like Mayo people adds weight to your argument that Mayo will win the game?
