Have We All Gone Mad?

Replying To Tirchonaill1:  "It's hard to know what anybody's point is here with all the endless quoting, then you have the African troll twit putting posts in BOLD, it's like trying to decipher NPHETS advice.
This latest advice must have been very sobering though because I see the opposition mostly falling into line behind the government, this Delta variant must be very bad."
We all know the virus is very easily transmitted and we all must do what we can to prevent death. However our Government and NPHET have being doing to little to late from the beginning and no need to go over that (Care homes etc.). Now the same people (They) are producing stats without showing how the are derived. They have given the most vulnerable (60-69's) the weaker vaccine. One dose of a the Pfizer vaccine has a significant higher protection from catching the Delta virus than the two doses of the Astra Zeneca and they continue to delay mixing the vaccines. How inefficient can we get?. Now most of the people vaccinated in the country have the Pfizer jab which has a significant higher prevention rate against catching the Delta strain (59% v 82% each with 2 jabs) - has this been taken into consideration. We do need to strip our HSE of the excessive layers of over paid inefficient management and put more health care workers back in to the system-fancy expensive building does not give better health care. Our lockdown system has been very unfair to many small business with no reasonable excuse for same. Good health to all.

It's laughable when you see people question the Government regarding data yet the same people haven't a clue how to analyze the most basic data to begin with !

If you were to look at this forum as a vox pop, then god help Ireland.

There's evil on the way, and you're wasting your time looking for an inquiry into how modelling is produced when the reality is most of you would be as well looking into a pot of spuds boiling.

There has been 5,000 covid related deaths over 16 months, 3,100 of those in care home settings.

Now with 67% of the population getting at least 1 vaccine dose, 45% fully vaccinated NPHET are projecting a worst case scenario of 2,170 deaths in a 3 month period, variants or not I think its pretty reasonable to think that's crazy.

Now without resorting to childish insults can you try explain this madness. People aren't demanding 80k in croke park or a packed copper face Jack's any reasonable thinking person understands it baby steps when reopening but the lack of ambition from government and NPHET is quite galling at this stage.

So you're saying that we should stop having to be nannied while at the same time telling us to do exactly what our government tells us to do , and never question how they choose to compile their data (for the record I'd advise the opposite).

Listen to your Government like adult grown up people do in a time of crisis , and stop having to be nannied and told exactly what any grown up mature nation of people do instinctively.

Is that easy enough to figure out for you or do you need me to nanny you a bit more until the penny drops .

There is no time for stupid questions that you certainly wouldn't understand the answers to anyway.

But how can I listen to a government who have given mixed signals?
I'm assuming you disagreed with their call to open up for Christmas? So should I have listened to them then? Or should I have listened to them when they kept on exiting and reentering lockdown, and changed stages of lockdown, and promised to reopen only to postpone it (think that's happened a few times)?
Or when they said it was OK to buy booze in shops but not clothes, yadayada yada, or when they said its OK to pack the promenade in salthill with people but not to allow 3000 spectators into a 35 000 seater stadium down the road for club games.
They don't seem to have a clue tbh,,,, you'd get on well with them.

If I ever read bad advice on here it's "listen to your government" where did listening to our governments get us in the past. The Bertie Ahern finna fail government told the Irish public not to listen to the likes of David McWilliams on the vulnerability of the Irish property based economy and to keep borrowing off the banks, I think he even said those who thought the economy would collapse should commit suicide. Well we all know how that worked out. Brian Cowan's government told people if we didn't vote in the Lisbon treaty he told all of the jobs that would be lost, the only job saved was his. Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan told us taking money from the public pension fund to pay back the IMF and bondholders wouldn't be a problem, now retirement ages will have to increase in the near future, they also told us they would fight to protect the Irish people from IMF imposed austerity with their buddy Eamonn Gilmore who said labours way or Frankfurt way and how did that go, we were imposed with the harshest austerity to pay I think it was 47% of the EU's debt. So forgive me if I'm not too quick to listen to my government and maybe it's not a bad thing if the general public are willing to look at both sides of the argument and think for themselves. I'm no expert but I know plenty of people in the science and medical professions and they all have their own views that differ from each other too. Also why is the government's only go-to for advice is nephet, why can't they get a second opinion from someone or somewhere else like the World health organisation as an example. Alot of this I believe is down our hse system being under pressure from bad management at the best of times and they are freaking at the thoughts of not being able to cope with the pressures of an increase in covid patients in our hospitals so they are only too happy for the government to keep us in lockdown restrictions.

Listen, you're a covid denier and you're perfectly entitled to be, but what you are not entitled to be is a peddler of disinformation.

Isn't that the reason we are at loggerheads !

You mention mixed messages which is a reasonable question. We are not dealing with something that is stable, it's mutating faster than most countries are able to vaccinate.

Nobody can predict whether mutation will make it nastier or more benign and while that's the case I wouldn't expect any government to know either so it's impossible to say exactly what will happen.

They can only go by what is known, and the latest information regarding the Delta variant is not what anyone wants to hear.

You accuse me of peddling disinformation yet then you say I'm a covid denier, when I have never denied its existence, ever.
I deny that its worthy of the extreme hysteria, and I deny that the government, media, and NPHET, have been completely honest and transparent in how they record and report the information to us (I think they've overhyped it), but I also deny that it is a big myth, and that no one has died from it etc etc etc.
