Have We All Gone Mad?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tonight I can go to the gym with sweat excretions flying everywhere. Tomorrow it could be the cinema. For the remainder of the week I could book a nice two night stay in a hotel and use their packed bar facilities right up to three am If I wanted. But what I really want this week is a ticket to see the Westmeath hurlers down in Carlow on Saturday or the big one, only over the road, with the Laois footballers on the Sunday. O Connor Park must hold twenty thousand and the powers that be dictate that only two hundred can apply for that golden ticket. These and rightly so will be given to the players involved. Good God, this crowd of only 200 does not make any kind of sense. Acres of space with not a soul around. Are the GAA kicking up any kind of fuss on the matter? Or are the lunatics, at last, really running the asylum?

Yes it's madness, the latest proposal about only allowing vaccinated people into pubs/restaurants etc is nuts too, impossible to police and probably illegal.

Not good, but definitely not illegal.

In order to fully trust those in charge we must first assume that they know what they're doing, and second assume that if they do, their intentions are honourable.
Those who didn't assume these things have spent the last 18 months being dismissed as lunatics.
With that in mind I would say that yes, we have probably gone mad.

There should be 35,000 at least allowed in Croker. Hyde Park could adult accommodate 10k this weekend. I can see the potential issues with indoor but out in open stadiums...come on let us in.

I think the fella on the radio today who spoke about publicans taking advice from the doctors hit the nail on the head. Who should we take advice from.... the publican or the doctor ?
People need to wake up. The reality is that NPHET painted a very dim picture if we allow pubs etc to open. Advice has been given and is being followed.
Think back to Christmas and January and Feb... leave us have a Christmas people said and look what happened... disaster almost with all of us having family or friends dying. Enough said.
I think we can spend a little.more.time outside of the pitch for county matches and it will be worth ut if we can lead a.more normal.life later. And by the way, the pub can wait as well. Times are changing and the pub as we know it is changing.... we won't be visiting it as often as in the past even when they do reopen.

The Restaurant Association say such a move is potentially illegal ", they're nobodies.

They may be a challenge and if there is the government will either bring in legislation or not allow any opening at all

It will end in a merry go round either way.

I'm watching England vs Germany here on tv in a near full Wembley stadium, fans hugging and up on top of each other, this is where this delta variant is supposed to be rampant. I would have loved to have gone to the Gaelic Rounds to watch Limerick vs Waterford in football and to go to Thurlas to watch the hurling on Saturday coming. But my government has given too much power to civil servants in nephat who are making rules that make no sense in what we can and can't do. We are run by clowns in this country.

To me it only shows how the heads of the health system in Ireland are showing how inadequate they have our health system run when the general public are under these constraints at their commands, it's not for our benefit but for theirs. Also it shows how cowardly our government are, afraid to make decisions for themselves. Listening to Ray D'arcy on the drive home from work saying we don't have to follow the rest of Europe and how we were the benchmark for the smoking ban around Europe and how we should be the same for battling covid, I had to switch off this RTE/Government propaganda machine rubbish. The biggest problem is the Irish public will probably forget all this by the time the next general election comes around.

Irelands mortality rate for 2020 was 1% higher than 2019, yet in that year apparently almost all of us have watched family or friends die?

But matches are outside they say? True, but...we got delta now dudes.

They don't want a match on because if there is a match, there are people in pubs before and after, drinking more in their friends houses before and after and other general matchy crowdy stuff in larger than normal numbers.

People, often with a few pints on board, tend to shout and roar during matches - more virus - they also tend to jump around a lot and bump into their neighbours as I did myself when Gooch slotted a goal past the startled earwigs back in the day.

People tend to travel to matches in cars together or pack out buses, and there's more crowding going in and out of the gates. Social distancing isn't great in the rush for a slash at half time.

Overall, I'm happy to walk down the street and pass Johnny Covid. I'm not so happy at a bus stop with him, and I'm even less happy when I'm on a terrace for 2 hours with him. For anyone old enough to remember what it was like to smoke on the terraces, if someone was chain smoking during a match, everyone in a 20 seat radius got a puff.

To be honest I don't think we should be modelling ourselves on England. I think i would rather follow the advice of the medical experts and the modelling that they have done. Reading the front page of the Indo tlday was enough for me. Have a look...
Our medical experts on NPHET have been very accurate to date. 7 or 8 euro will get you the game on tv. And yes it woukd be great to be back at the match but that will happen in time.
Voting out a government on the basis of not getting your own way wont really do it at the polls.

Is there anything the Irish in Ireland can get right, I'm being serious now. Must be the greatest people in the world who can emigrate to other countries, do well and are sought after, yet those who stayed at home have made an absolute balls of the country.

So don't be surprised by what's happening now, no doubt I'll be vilified once again by the usual mob of deniers who are happy enough to accept the pathetic standards in so many walks of life in Ireland.

Let's call it what it is, a shambles of a country.
